At the very best they apply lotion. There is nothing close to a massage and your much better off finding a good independent therapist who has experience and doesn't just rub you. By the time you tip them and listen to all the up-sell sermons it's pathetic. Basically everyone that works here responded to one of the massage school ads you see on TV; now they've got a huge debt from school and must work at Massage Envy until they give up or burn out and the next class of students comes in. Once you get signed up on their monthly program it is near impossible to get off. You can't call, you can't email, you MUST fill out their form. Update 5/11/2013 - Today I got a letter from some attorney asking me to join a class action lawsuit against LA Fitness. The complaint is based on LAF's business practices and making it difficult to cancel a membership, and continuing to bill ex-clients after they cancel their membership. As I read the complaint I thought wow, you could take out the name LA Fitness and insert Massage Envy in the lawsuit. Why companies want to make it so difficult to NOT do business with them. It's like trying to find an exit in a hotel in Vegas, you can get out but they're going to make it a pain. I've been a member for over a year and a half and I recently moved to downtown Phoenix. I've had 3 massages at the Camelback location so far and they were EXCELLENT. I will only request DEEP TISSUE massages so that's all I can tell you about. I'm talking painful: elbows digging deep and from someone with the strong grip of a weight-lifter. If it don't hurt, it don't work for me! My neck and shoulder areas are extremely tense so I try to go in every 3 to 4 weeks. In MESA, go see Miranda! In PHOENIX, Kimberly and Jason! Kimberly is a sweetheart, but she's got what it takes to give an hour and a half deep tissue massage! Should you feel and be bruised the next day? ABSOLUTELY hahaha but massages are the only way I get relief from having tight muscles due to stress and my poor posture. Brought a friend from NYC to this place and he was very glad he went :) People, if you're NOT getting a good massage it's because you're not communicating. Tell your therapist you want more or less pressure, or where you do and don't want them to work. I've never left a Massage Envy disappointed. You can STACK your massages in case you can't make one or more months, you don't lose them if you don't use them. Instead of a one hour, get a TWO hour massage every two months :D The membership is worth it and it's good for your health - enjoy! read more

I have really never had an issue with scheduling a massage at this location. But of course while living in Phoenix I have only been to one other location (Happy Valley/Norterra). They have always been rather busy and often appear unorganized at the front reception area. Well there was that one time I needed to break a large bill to provide a gratuity and they didn't have change. Luckily Jimmy John's next door did it for me without me having to purchase a sandwich. There have been times I have been able to schedule a massage for 15 minutes from the time I was calling in while I was next door at Total Wine shopping. I have yet to find a dedicated massage therapist here, mostly due to my random scheduling habit. But I for the most part have not had a memorably poor experience here. Which reminds me I need to schedule a massage soon. I have 4 1hr credits. I find an hour a bit short but an hour and a half to be just perfect. Now 2 hours can be a bit long for both myself and the therapist, but I have scheduled them on occasion. I am a member and I have enjoyed the convenience of being able to use my massage credits as I travel. It has saved my back more than once. read more

I started as a member with massage envy several years ago after I had tweaked my neck and needed to find somewhere that could get me in ASAP. The massage was pretty good and I enjoyed the same day scheduling ability because sometimes u just need to get in right away. Over the years I had multiple problems with appts getting cancelled and a variety of other problems so I eventually ended my contract (in writing with the front desk) and quit going. After about a two year break from massage envy I decided to give them another try although I wasn't sure about getting a membership again especially since the raise in pricing. The massage was great and after speaking with Brody I decided to sign up again. Brody is so amazing and always so helpful. He is very knowledgable and is a huge improvement to the staff from when I was previously a member. I get weekly massages and the savings are definitely better when u go more often. If u only go once a month ur technically paying $59 for a massage instead of $39 because that's the cost of the monthly membership which includes a 60 min massage. They have a ton of therapists (something for everyone) and it can be hit or miss finding the right therapist for u as everyone has different likes and dislikes. I like a deeper massage and Jennifer and Mercedes are both really good. Unfortunately because they've gotten busier it's hard to get a same day massage but u can almost always get scheduled the next day. read more

The ease of scheduling appointments is great- and they always give you a reminder call the day before. I'm a big fan of both Blake and Chris. I yelp five stars based on my experiences with two therapists, Yvonte and Mike T. Yvonte is my go to guy when I need some deep tissue help and Mike is great for stretching or when I have sciatic pain. I have never had a bad experience with either sir and I will continue to visit this house of tranquility. I came here with two friends. It was my first ever massage and I was quite excited. Everything was top notch. We were each called a day in advance to confirm our appointments (actually one of my friends made the appoints for everyone so the same person called her 3 times in less than ten minutes.) Do not enroll into their programs. I have multiple sessions paid for but because scheduling is so difficult you will always pay for sessions you'll never use. And instead of just not paying until you get caught up they charger you a monthly fee to not lose your credits. I'd rather they just give a refund however that is not an option. I had a fantastic time! :) I received a one-hour massage gift card and it took me forever to use it. When I did just yesterday, it was an excellent experience from start to finish. I got there early for my 10:00am appointment, and it was not busy. The front desk attendants were friendly and accommodating. When I filled out the initial paperwork (it was my first time there), the manager (?) was very attentive and went over my responses. AWESOME THING #1: apparently they were having a new customer special, and they offered me a 90-minute massage for the same price as the 60! Maybe it's because they weren't busy, but I definitely appreciated & accepted the offer. AWESOME THING #2: my masseuse, Jason. It was my first-ever deep tissue massage, and he has set the bar über-high for the rest of my life. Seriously guys, it felt like there were six hands on me at all times! He was an utmost professional, and while he did focus on my mid and lower back (as I requested), Jason also noticed that I was carrying a lot of tension in my upper back and shoulders-- and he focused on those areas, too! How delightful to work with such a competent, kind, and INTUITIVE therapist. If I ever go back to a Massage Envy, it will be to wherever Jason is located. The receptionist did try to recommend a package deal or monthly subscription to me, but I declined and was given a polite and friendly reply. I'm glad that I received a gift card for this place, because without the member pricing, it would be far too expensive for me to justify going there regularly. Here's the Problem: You are all relaxed when you walk out. You expect to pay and tip for your service - no problem there. Next you get a sales pitch about buying so many by paying so much per month. Now, after a massage I can barely get myself together enough to get behind the wheel. Oh no...you are hit. I guess they figure that you'll purchase their plan. Hell No! I'll pay $70 and go to a spa thank you very much. I want to be relaxed and calm. Bad Bad Bad Bad Bad experience and I'll never go back and I'll never recommend Massage Envy to anyone. MARGARET IS AN AMAZING PRENATAL MASSAGE THERAPIST! I am 36 weeks pregnant, and a still working Registered Nurse who has a lot of lower back, hip, and foot pain. I saw Margaret for a prenatal massage and she is absolutely amazing! Margaret managed to target every one of my areas of need! Their reasoning was the therapist he was scheduled with didn't come in today. And THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME. They've done this twice already, this is strike 3. This is a great Massage Envy location overall, but this review is specifically for Ben (masseuse) and Amber (aesthetician). I'll start with Amber - I've had a number of facials with her so far and I sincerely can't wait for more. She is SO knowledgeable about the skin overall, and has great information and insights about all of the products she uses. I've had some appointments with her where I was feeling more chatty and (at least) one where I was feeling super tired and didn't want to talk much, and she adapted perfectly to my energy level every time. She isn't pushy from a salesperson perspective or anything and is honestly just so enjoyable to be in a room with. I can honestly say my skin has never looked better after a few sessions with Amber! Today was my first massage with Ben and I was kicking myself the entire time for booking a 60 minute instead of a 90min. He was so kind and moved at the perfect speed - he wasn't rushing but was very efficient and paid a perfect amount of attention to each body part throughout the session. He was fun to talk to and I really feel like we had a great time in today's session. I was super sore from the Rock n' Roll this past weekend and he had me feeling like a rockstar in just one hour!!! This location has terrible management. Massage Envy Corporate switched their software system last year. Before the switch, I had nearly 40 paid sessions unused. After the switch, I amazingly only had 16. I inquired about where all my unused sessions went and the manager (Alyssa Pittenger) said she'd look into it. I followed up again via phone several times ... her staff members won't allow me to talk to her. Every time I call, she's "not in the store right now." Where is she all the time? A month later, I FINALLY got her on the phone and she told me she was "looking into" it. Again. I told her I wanted that in writing. So she sent me an email stating she's looking into it and to "please feel free to contact me if you need anything, I apologize for not being available to you for your customer service needs." Ok ... fine. I'll be patient. That was April 19. I have followed up once a month, with no reply. I have called the store and her little gatekeepers never let me talk to her. Last week, Massage Envy called Me! Whoa, did they have an answer? Nope, it was the girls at the front desk telling me my credit card was expired and they needed the updated info to process my payments. I guess that's all they care about. I again asked to speak to Alyssa. They told me to hold on because she's finishing up with another customer... after waiting 10 minutes, they come back to the phone and tell me she's NOT there. Really?! I have sent two more emails to her. It's now mid-August and nothing. read more

Once I checked in and filled out the short survey/questionnaire I was immediately introduced to my therapist. She went over what areas I'd like to focus on and got to work. An hour later I was making my way out and feeling fully renewed. And not a bad price. The new client specials was $39. Not a bad deal for exactly what I needed. You won't get the fancy high-end spa experience, but what you will get is a pleasant , clean, friendly atmosphere that you can appreciate. Ok, let's just start off by saying the "chicks" behind the front desk are so utterly s l o w, I can hardly take it. They remind me of the Olly girls on Sunset Tan. I stood before them for at least two minutes while one had her back turned to me and she was applying make up. Think VERY carefully before using this establishment. The massage therapists are okay, but the business itself has lousy practices. They also change their terms all the time, and good luck getting a copy of your contract. Unless you are fortunate enough not to have to work, I beg you do not sign up. If you start missing them, you will accumulate them and if you try to cancel you will lose everything you paid. They used to be somewhat helpful and let you freeze your membership for a short period of time but now they refuse to do that, and will in fact tell you they cannot which of course they can because they can do whatever they want. Yet if you listen to their sales pitch, they actually say that they want this to be convenient for you, not a burden. Do not believe them. I have been told that this location is like this and others are more businesslike, but I do not know if that is true. You should NOT utilize this location though. It may seem cheap, but when you have $200 in the hole and you can either lose it or keep on accumulating more, it is way more expensive. Do yourself a favor. Pay a wee bit more for a business that is run professionally. read more
