I decided to try this place after seeing it featured on Andrew Zimmern's Bizzare Foods and had a specific mission in mind. The Kunafa! This sweet dish is one of the more unique dishes I have had. While none of the flavor profiles are particularly foreign, it is unusual to have them all put together in one place. The cheese is a basic white melting cheese, and the sweet layer on top, provides a nice contrast to the cheese below. But enough trying to describe something that is best eaten rather than read. Masri sweet is not as fancy as his competition. But let me tell you something. The best kenafeh I have ever tasted. I mean even better than the ones I have in Nablis Palestine last year(and Nablis invented Kenafeh). Wow, this place will leave you speechless. The sweets are out of this world delicious, they have trays, you can get large or small tray - small try was $13 and it would have been enough for a party, but we got half that for $7 and we loved everything, it is Middle Eastern sweets, that are cooked right. The cheese pastries were so darn good, we will be driving back there very soon. This impressed our out of town guests. For any special event or if I have family in town, i will be there right away. Definitely recommend coming here, this makes Astoria or any other bakery around here in Detroit look like a complete joke! Nice boxes, wrapped nicely. We have been here twice and the quality and price are just too good. I can never go back to Astoria Bakery again, thank you! Dearborn local told me that Masri is best for Kanafe. So I came here for kanafe. It was my first time having kanafe, but I could tell it was very high quality food. The cheese was extra stringy. The pasty on top wasn't too syrupy but sweet enough to enjoy. The shop atmosphere seems to be improving but I didn't get a comfortable vibe while eating my kanafe. I guess my rating is simply relative to Shatila's establishment. Kanafe at Masri trumps Shatila however, according to multiple sources. OMG!! These are some of the best sweets/desserts I think I've ever had! One of my analysts walked into my office this afternoon and gave me a box of assorted sweets she ordered as a "thank you." She's of Lebanese descent and said these are as good as the sweets her grandmother makes. I've not had Lebanese desserts before, but these are GOOD! You can taste the butter in EVERY BITE! Best baklava, hands down a million times better than Shatila! Also their cakes. Not always the prettiest but so delicious. My friend had her wedding cake made by them and it was the best wedding cake I have ever had. I once ordered a cake and they made the ugliest thing ever so will never do custom cakes but just dropping in to pick up any flavor and they are delicious. Love this place! read more

I wanted to try some of the best middle eastern desserts and I knew Dearborn would be the place. I researched the bakeries and decided to try this one based on many of the reviews which cited that this one, though not as well known, had superior quality and service. I selected a small variety of items to send to my family and them selected some for me to enjoy in real-time. I was pleasantly surprised by the extra level of service and kindness that included a small selection of samples and the best part was a sample of Znood which was given to me while it was still hot. This was my favorite of the delicacies and consequently I ordered some to transport back to my family. They were kind enough to package my treats in a manner that hopefully will survive my plane trip. If you get a chance, and want the best, this place will not disappoint! read more

Just received a huge tray of assorted pastries as a gift. Despite being shipped across the country, everything arrived in excellent condition. Kudos on the packaging. On the first morning, we tasted our way across the entire assortment and were delighted by the delicate textures and the freshness of the ingredients. I took a large tray of Kanafee as a gift to a friend. Fortunately another friend brought a tray from LeBon sweets. My gift was embarrassing when opened next to the other tray. The Masrie tray had 1/3 the cheese and less then 1/4 inch of topping. The price was the same for the 2 trays. I feel robbed and cheated besides the Masrie knafee tasted less then mediocre.. Very disrespectful young children working in the Masri Sweets, Dearborn, MI location. I wanted to order a full tray of kunafa and they took my order. I came back 15 minutes later and they asked if they can help me and I told them I placed an order already. Well, they never started on my order. There are many options for sweets and if you like to give your business to reasonable people you may want to avoid this location. Unfortunate for the owner but there is a burden of responsibility and the owner should take the moral steps in talking to his current staff. The time was 10:30 pm, 11/13/2020! The staff was so friendly and patient with us- the array of sweets was dizzying but we saw people gathered at the end of the counter and inquired what they were ordering- we were told kunafa an amazing cheese dessert. If you like kanafeh or would like to taste this wonderful Mideastern sweet made with buttery shredded phyllo and gooey cheese, you need to go to this place. Shatila is another excellent shop in Dearborn to get sweets, but Masri's knafeh is better, and here is why: -- stringier and more gooey cheese, as it should be. The owners are from Nablus so maybe they know where to get the authentic Nabulsi cheese -- "Kishna" (rough) kanafeh has its phyllo dough finely shredded, packed tightly, and cooked to a beautiful crustiness. They don't offer individual serving, buy a small tray for $15. The "naime" (fine) version has a layer of semolina crust instead of the shredded phyllo, very good as well and you can try a piece or even half a piece. Highly recommended. -- Masri uses a round pan for making and keeping warm the kanafeh, not a big square pan as in Shatila. Just a personal preference, as my memory of eating in the best kanafeh shops in Jordan or Turkey (yes, there is a Turkish version) are all associated with round pans being turned and flipped over a hot stove in creation of these dreamy sweets Lots of other sweets to choose from, baklava, mammoul cookies with different fillings, on and on. Note some stuff are only available during Ramadan and a few other festivals. Decor and seating is basic; this is more of a take-out place although there are half a dozen tables for in-store dining. read more

al-Masri doesn't look like much from the outside, and the inside interior is equally drab, but the sweets are good. I've tried kunafa in many different cities all over the USA and Palestine. Although none of them and i mean none of them is as good as what's in Palestine, Masri was one of the worst i ever ate, and I was born and raised in detroit. I think only shatila is worse.
