***EDIT FOR MAY 1, 2026*** - Two weeks ago I was called by someone at the front desk and told there…read moreis an available appointment for Saturday, May 2 at 2:00 pm with the dentist who has been doing the work on my tooth. Today I was told it's uncertain who called me, but there's availability at 9 am on May 2, 2026. I was also told that this review has been seen and it's not thought to be discrimination. I'd like to make it clear there's many types of discrimination in the medical field; systemic or interpersonal. In my case, it's interpersonal. This review will not be removed until the situation is corrected. A partial definition of interpersonal discrimination is unfair treatment, disrespect, micro aggressions, macro aggressions, poor communication, biases, and differential treatment between the patient and healthcare providers or staff. In this case, it's between a patient and staff. In the summer of 2025, I completed the first visit. The apron/vest (I'm not sure of the correct term), was not placed on me during x-rays until I requested it. This was on a Saturday. The woman who completed the x-rays seemed to be more distracted by something else at the moment. After scheduling a follow up appointment, I asked does this office accept pediatric patients? My daughter was three years old at the time. I was told yes but since He is so young, there's not much to do except to brush His teeth (he's a she but ok; I took her elsewhere) The practice engages in discrimination; be careful if you're a person of color. The dentists and dentist assistants are not discriminatory, they're wonderful. But the receptionists are discriminatory and lie a lot. Because of the treatment, I'll finish my root canal treatment and look for a dentist elsewhere. Last year, I came for a second opinion on a root canal. It was scheduled. They never told me the insurance denied it. The insurance did. This year I decided to go back. It's close to my home and business. A fear of dentists kept me away. They scheduled the appointment. I gave them an updated insurance card. They pretended to place it in my file. I called weekly to ask if it Emblem Health approved it because the insurance said they didn't receive it. Weekly responses from the receptionists were, not yet or let me ask the billing department. I had to go in person after calling six weeks straight for them to submit it to Health First. Even then, I had to show up in person while placed on hold; that's when I was partially assisted. The day of the root canal (March 12), I was told that there wasn't an Emblem Health Insurance Card on file. After weeks of me calling and one visit, I was told that. Why is it discrimination? After research and an investigation of my own with the assistance of an outside agency, I have found that this treatment is most common towards blacks/African Americans from this practice; specifically the receptionists (as stated before, the dentists and dental assistants have not treated others this way). I paid $515 out of pocket because the root canal was needed. I have not received a refund. If I didn't have the money, my health would have become worse. I was then told my next appointment is April 17. I received a call on the 26th of March saying my appointment is March 27 at 10am and I was mistaken. Gaslighting? Misinformation? I'll attach the card. The dentist also told the receptionist to schedule an appointment for the weekend of April 4, 2026. She said there's a waiting list. And left it at that. I'll keep calling and visiting in person until I get the appointment for the crown.

The whole entire decade of me going he never mentioned both. I was on a family emergency in Florida and decided to get my teeth cleaned and x ray over there. Just to find out all of these problems I have going on in my mouth. The cleanup in Orlando Florida was about 45 alone. This guy only does 15-20 max cleanup! I know have other health complications that could've been avoided if he would've told me all the times I've gone to him. I've been bleeding from my mouth for almost 5 years!!! I've gotten CT scans from head to toe just for the doctors to tell me I'm healthy when the real underlying issues was my gums and teeth. Early stage periodontitis could've been avoided for sure if I were to take care of my mouth more yes, but to have a "professional" dentist that just wants to get paid by insurance or your hard earn money not telling you what's really going on is a disgrace to his field! But then there's the Emotional Intelligence angle, and many doctors fail there.I recently had an abscess in my tooth and I would not wish it on anyone. Imagine going to bed on a random Tuesday night and waking up Wednesday in utter agony with one side of your jaw swollen out two inches. It's a very scary situation. I've since heard of some people needing the ER. Dr Mitrut and his staff? Every single one of them was fantastic at all phases. Lisa's empathy came through on the first call; the staff, overall, are clearly experienced with emergency situations. And, importantly, Dr. Mitrut took the TIME to explain every stage of the events. That's rare. Too many doctors, in my own personal opinion, rely on their own experience without taking the time to recognize a person is in distress. Dr. Mitrut took those extra moments and I can't recommend him or this office enough because of that.
