Went with a large group so expectations were managed. Reason for 3 vs 2 stars.,The service of 1 server for almost 30 people was better than expected. Most orders were a toss up on who had ordered them. He got help with entrees being delivered to the room we were in but otherwise mostly a 1 man show with at least 15 separate checks. The good news stops. The food is barely just ok. Some people asked for chicken in their entrees and got beef. I tried a new dish with cheese enchiladas and a "sauce" that was just several large chunks of overcooked beef. Most dishes for us and others at our table had sat under a warmer of some kind so they could be served to the group in proximity. Cheese was almost liquified vs just melted. The pinto beans looked like canned baked beans out of the can but without the tomato sauce. Hard and not really hot. Definitely fits the bill for a great Mexican food place. They came to College Station where my parents live and they tell me all the time how crowded it is there! So I wanted to try it. I got the shrimp Diablo and it was great! It was a great amount of spicy too. Loved the grilled veggies served with it- really good dipped in the salsa! They have plexi between the booths and distancing between tables. Staff are all in masks and super helpful. Gabby C waited on us and was GREAT!!! She was prompt with bringing refills and taking care of us. The fajitas were plentiful and yummy. The spinach and mushroom enchiladas were perfectly cheesy and scrumptious. Not really understanding the good reviews of this place. Our first time here last night and it was just terrible. Server was brash, especially when asked about a food allergy question before we ordered. That should have been our first clue how this was going to go. He then got our drinks wrong (asked for 3 waters with no ice and got them with ice - said it more than once, but still came with ice), and almost got our kids order wrong when he repeated it before he left. Good thing he repeated it. Then when food arrived, it was brought out by another person, and we were missing my husband's meal. The person that brought the food also said he'd get us an extra plate for the fajitas. He never brought it. Took our server a while to come check on us, so my husband sat there without a meal for a good bit. In that time, we found a piece of fabric in my daughter's quesadilla when she took a bite. Server finally came by and we told him about the missing meal and the piece of fabric. He didn't apologize about either thing at all, and tried to say that the fabric was cheese. He offered to have the quesadilla remade and tried taking my 2 year old's plate away while they remade it, but I asked to keep it bc she is 2 and would throw a fit if she didn't have at least something to eat (the rice and beans). My husband's plate finally came. Manager came by to apologize about the fabric but nothing else. Then after a full 20 mins or more, we had to flag our server down to ask where the replacement quesadilla was. Again, no apology. No money off the bill. On top of all this, the food was just not good. We got the chicken fajitas, crispy tacos, and kids quesadillas. So again, not sure why there are such great reviews of this place. Underwhelming is the best word to use regarding this local spot. We decided to give them a try and while the quesadillas were good, the chips left so much to be desired. Overbaked and oily despite asking for a second round of chips they stayed the same. I know reused chips when I taste them and it was disappointing to not enjoy the queso and salsa. Chips & salsa - homemade chips on the thinner side and salsa was mediocre at best; not a whole lot of spice or authenticity. Queso blanco dip - was pretty decent. Shrimp fajitas - I like having a smoking hot fajita platter and that was not the case here. First thing I noticed was the shrimp of course which were not prawns nor large shrimp. Went in unsure what to expect after skimming the reviews. Upon our arrival we got a blank stare and unenthusiastic greeting. 1 guy was behind the podium and the other was off to the side, the one to the side walked us over to the table, sat the menus down and retreated back to his original place. Shortly after being seated out comes the server Martha to take our drink order. She was much more polite and welcoming which was refreshing. She came back out promptly with the drinks, answered a few questions about the menu (sadly they do not have menudo;not even on the weekends). We started out with the queso blanco and added ground beef, it was tasty, a lil thinner than preferred but surprisingly not lacking any flavor. About half way through the queso we decided to partake in the Taco Tuesday special $1.99 tacos..we each started with one of each: 1 ground beef 1 shredded chicken. The ground beef had good flavor but was filled with huge pieces of onion (neither of us like onion) I was able to use my fork to pull out the pieces but my other half found it to be inedible halfway through. The chicken taco was amazing, after the first we each ordered 1 more of those. We also went ahead and ordered desert which is where the visit took a turn..upon checking in on Yelp there's an offer for a free order of sopapillas, when I informed Martha of it she placed the order and informed she had to send over the manager to review and comp it out..no biggie. When the manager Elario came over to our surprise he was the same person who seated us and his poor attitude continued..he asked to see the offer, questioned my intelligence by asking if I was sure it was MasFajitas when I pointed out the name at the top of the offer he proceeded to tell me normally the offers have a stamp and he believed it to be invalid..I backed out of it went back to the location and showed him the offer again and then told him if he couldn't honor it then it was fine $3.99 was not a huge deal. Still reluctant he says "I'll do it this time" as if he was doing us a favor and walked away. After walking away I noticed he was on his phone hopefully familiarizing himself with their Yelp page and the check in offer. Martha came back again promptly with the tacos and sopapillas. The sopapillas were disgusting, lacked sweetness and tasted like pure dough, so we went through the attitude and hassle for that..we had a laugh about it and his behavior then closed out the check and left. On the way out Martha offered me a to go tea after noticing me taking a last swig I declined but thanked her for her service and kindness. Overall the visit was ok, every other person aside from the manager was friendly and pleasant to deal with and the food was decent especially considering the price. Usually this restaurant has good food and good service but not Saturday night at 8 pm. It was not busy! Maybe a dozen or more empty tables. The new paint and the mural look great. Our waiter took our order, delivered queso/beverages and virtually disappeared. Our entrees were delivered by another waiter. No one checked to see if we needed anything such as whether our food was hot or a beverage refill. I hate paying for a single glass of tea when thirsty and we need refills. Very generous beef fajita portions but arrived lukewarm. On the way out I saw that other table's fajitas were sizzling when served. After we ate in about 30 minutes and had not seen our waiter I asked for him because I thought maybe he'd gone home and we needed a to go box and our check. I also wanted a beverage refill. When he arrived I questioned him about his lack of service and he said he was doing other things that he'd been assigned. I said that didn't bring me something else to drink, allow me to tell him my fajitas were lukewarm or that I only received two tortillas and wanted more. I asked for a tea and water to go cup because I just wanted to leave. He brought tea but no water. I held a private party there last year and service was good but doubt I'll return. Too many other Mexican restaurants to choose from that serve hot food and waiters that actually provide service. Yes I did tip him and I'm kind of regretting it even though it was not my usual 20%! We were a party of 6 where one couple who had never been said they would never return. We've lived in the Austin area for 3.5yrs now and have longed for those nice, thin, crispy chips that every Mexican restaurant in the Houston area serves, and wouldn't ya know, we FINALLY find a place the winter before we sell and move back to Houston. Still, MasFajitas has been a delightful find that we've patronized at least once a week since stumbling upon it. I usually get the fried avocado with spinach & mushroom filling, while my husband gets the chicken tacos al carbon. Both meals are great, and mine is enough to take home for a second meal. This evening, though, we finally made it in for Thirsty Thursdays, which is an absolute steal with $1.50 drafts and $2.50 wells. Our server this evening was also the absolute best we've had (not that the others were bad; they were fine and treated us well). Jonathan was a hoot from the moment we sat down and, at one point, he made us laugh so hard that several other tables looked at us like we were crazy. Aside from how much humor he brought to the table, he also tipped me off to the existence of their veggie fajitas, which aren't on the menu. I had those this evening, and MAN, it is SO much food! Any other day, I'd've brought half home with me, but I guess I had a little too much to drink and didn't realize I'd finished it off til I was miserably full, lol. We also had sopapillas for dessert, which were gratis thanks to the Yelp checkin offer! MasFajitas and their staff have treated us well, and we'll definitely keep coming back til we leave the area. EXPENSIVE!!!!! One Enchilada cost $4. Just 1, not the plate. A coke cost $3. You can go across the street to Shell and get same size for $0.99. The staff is curt and rude. They could care less about the quality of service you receive. When you pay over $20 for a meal, that level of service needs to come with it. I would recommend taking that $25 + tips and buying the same ingredients from HEB down the street and make enchiladas for the whole week. Totally not worth going there anymore. read more

Every small to medium sized city in Texas has a local Tex-Mex option. And quite often, said Tex-Mex option may include a menu variety that runs the gamut from Tex-Mex classics to some American options to even seafood. In Georgetown, MasFajitas, a regional chain fills this role. And they fill it well. Probably as well as any other Tex-Mex option I've tried. There's nothing not to like here. The chips are crisp, fresh, and plentiful. The salsa has a great consistency and there's plenty of fresh flavor without overwhelming heat. Likewise, the queso is on point. And my fajita enchiladas approached perfection with a great ratio of cheese to beef fajita meat -- and with a classic red chili gravy that's also not overwhelming. My dining companion had similar praise of her chile relleno, which she said was one of the best she had. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention our server, who was the true highlight of the evening. She did everything that was expected with getting our orders right and keeping the chips and drinks filled. More importantly, though, was her genuine warmth and hospitality which we noticed she had with every table. Even though it was our first time dining there, she treated both of us like regulars and old friends. As such, this will definitely be on the list of restaurants to revisit.
