So we did some research. Somewhere along the line we found Meraz written up as one of the 12 best Indian restaurants in England. Okay, so we trek over to the East End (pretty wild neighborhood that we enjoyed) for dinner at Meraz. My husband was disappointed not to find a particular dish on the menu, but the waiter didn't hesitate to offer to have the kitchen whip it up special for him. My husband also went a little wild ordering all sorts of appetizers and side dishes. Now I don't like to deal in hyperbole. A five star rating should be sufficient praise. But I'm going to go overboard just this once: BEST INDIAN FOOD I'VE EVER EATEN IN A RESTAURANT. EVER. I've eaten in Indian restaurants at home in Chicago, in L.A., New York, St.Louis, Atlanta, San Francisco, etc., etc. etc. Many have been good, but none approached this. We ate every scrap of all the food we ordered, and only because we had a tight timeline and a busy itinerary for our brief visit to London did we not go back for at least a second meal.

We wanted to go to Lahore One but we had taken too long to get there so we were looking for some kind of fast food, pretty late on a Friday night and we found here. You can get 3 different curries and rice for £3.50 if your a vegetarian and £4.50 if you want to ruin the environment and eat meat. I jest. Plus he chucked in a naan. It's great inside too: OTT South Asian design touches everywhere from the white horned chairs to the faux marble tables. Just great.

Although the quality can vary from day to day, I guess it's not always the same people who cook? Or sometimes they don't get the same ingredients? I think a big part of their business is catering events, but there are always people in the restaurant as well. Their spinach is good. My flatmate loves their mushroom rice. Chicken Jalfry is nice and spicy. Chicken korma is sweet and mild. What they call "Taste of Balti" is very tasty too. Most of it is basically exactly how it should be (in my heathen opinion at least). Meat dishes are between £4 and £6. Veggie sides around £3 (go Sag Aloo!). They open late, from what I've seen they don't have a definite closing time but it's usually around midnight on weekends.
