Masala Craft came recommend by a friend of a friend and the gal group hit them up for lunch. We made a reservation, but didn't really need one, since it wasn't so busy. We chose to sit outside, which is fully shaded and felt cool on a warm day. The biggest outdoor table seats 4, unless other tables are pushed together. The outdoor area and inside are both beautiful and clean. Staff was really nice, but we were given dinner menus at arrival. They switched them out but we could order off either. Lunch comes with soup or salad and naan or rice. There are no refills on the juices (like Guava) or the flavored teas (like the hibiscus blend bag). We ordered the fried cauliflower (Chatpati lasuni gobhi) appetizer and it was great, nice and crispy with a good breading. The sauce was thick and tasted a bit like tuned up spaghetti sauce, which was different than I was expecting or have had before. We asked for another one when this was brought out since the portion was small for 5 people, but we must not have been clear enough since that was the only one we got. I ordered a tomato kachumber "salad" without onions, but it arrived with onions. My friend was kind enough to eat the onions. I still enjoyed the dish, but it was lacking a bit of dressing and there were way more cucumbers than tomatoes. Everyone enjoyed their food. The bulk of us ordered a spice level 3/5 and two others ordered a 2/5, the 2 was a bit much for them. Since the staff of the restaurant are Punjabi I was excited to order a Punjabi curry, since I like north Indian food better than southern. The punjabi curry was good, but wasn't great in flavor. The chicken was a bit dry but the veggies were nice. We enjoyed our time here, a great environment. They easily split checks; but even though they bring you the check in a holder, cards are swiped table side via a hand-held POS. It was pretty easy to text myself the receipt and tip that way, but it's not that private in a group of people. Not everyone likes that modern style. read more

We arrived early and got seated right away. There were many people coming to pick u to go orders. The restaurant started to fill up abd I could overhear people talking about how good it was. We got the tandoori chicken and chicken xacuti both at a level 2. We like spicy foods but our mouths were on fire. The food was absolutely delicious! read more

Tried this place today for lunch and sat outside in the patio area. Food was good (except for the lentil soup which was so watery and the side salad lettuce had a lot of black lettuce). We ordered the vegetable pakora $6, garlic naan $4, tandoori chicken $15, fish (salmon) tikka $16 and butter chicken $15. We chose basmati rice. It's expensive for "lunch" since there was very little protein/meat. But the food and service were good. read more

If you enjoy Indian food and want to venture out from your local Indian restaurants, this restaurant is a great stop. I experienced their lunch menu and was throughly satisfied. The flavors were vibrant, the presentation was pleasing, and the Naan is super fresh. Prices for lunch were reasonable between $5-$30 for dishes ranging from appetizers to cuisine. The service was exceptional and no problems were encountered. The environment is beautifully decorated and consisted of a bar, booths, and tables. The restaurant isn't huge but very welcoming and spacious in how the environmental arrangements stand. I would come back to this location and will make it a point to come for their dinner menu! read more

I really loved our first visit to Masala Craft. The service was a bit slow and I think that will be worked out once they hire one other server that can take alcohol orders as it seemed like there was only one female who was allowed to do that. The food was incredible. Everything we ordered was delicious with great flavors and fresh. We started with the jalapeño cheese cutlets which reminded me of a hush puppy. They were delicious and served with a yummy sweet & spicy chutney. For dinner we all shared the Crab Tikka Masala, the Butter Chicken, Three Mango Shrimp and also got an order of the Garlic Naan with a side of the cucumber dip. So so good. Omg the crab masala was to die for as was the shrimp. I loved the garlic naan so much and the cucumber dip was also excellent. We drank a great bottle of Pinot Noir that was fairly priced and loved the interior. Can't wait to go back and try more menu items. read more

I ordered the coconut chicken curry, basmati rice and naan bread. The rice was okay and the bread was great. The main entree was okay, but not exactly like I hoped it would be. The sauce didn't taste the same as a traditional curry. There wasn't much chicken at all for the price. There were large, hard spices still in the sauce that at first glance looked like a spider. I would highly recommend using a cheesecloth sachet to remove those after the cooking since that was unpleasant, to say the least. I can't comment on the atmosphere, since they were closed except for takeaway food. Maybe I will try again, but definitely not the same dish. read more

Finally able to grab dinner here with the family after having this restaurant on our list. I had the lamb Cashew Korma, the wife had the Tandoori Chicken Tikka, and our son had the lamb Vindaloo. We also had assorted breads as an appetizer with the chutney flight. All the food was on point! The plain naan worked well with the chutney but the real winners were the garlic naan and Kulcha. Our entrees were delivered hot and our flavors were all great. Heat level is subjective so ensure you are ready for some heat, the staff does well to help you find the one best for you. We all agreed that we all three had made some good choices. I would be happy with any of our meals and feel confident that we will be back again. This was my first visit and I will definitely be back. I ordered the Samosas as an appetizer. They had perfect texture and flavor. I loved the kick of spice. My sides were a tomato coconut soup and some garlic naan. That was seriously the best naan I've had to date. And my lunch was the Dal Makhni. I loved it! Perfect amount of spice. There is good food, there is great food, but this is excellent food that defies any star rating. This is clearly operated by a family and the care, concern and pride of their efforts shows from start to finish. The service was incredible from the start when we were greeted and promptly sat a table. The menu is expansive and quite varied. The appetizers were outstanding and set off the start of a great dining experience. We were graced with a lamb shank and a salmon dinner which we shared a bit (but coveted our own to give away too much. And what can I say about the bread assortment. That is a meal in its own and a must order for any service. We have traveled to many places in the world and this is clearly the best Indian cuisine we have eating in decades of eating. It was my first Time having Indian food, and it was delicious. I had butter chicken and it was so yummy. The spice level is up to you. I got a number 1 which is the least spicy as I'm not a fan of spicy food. The sauce was so good. I could taste the turmeric flavor, and the other ingredients blended wonderfully. The garlic naan was heavenly with lots of garlic which I love. It was very busy, but we were still seated quickly, and the wait staff was very helpful and gracious. They were glad to explain the dishes and the spice level. They kept returning to check on us as refill drinks. I can't wait to go back, and I have ordered pick up a couple of times as well. There is a lot to like, but there are also things that didn't work out very well when we visited. First the pros. The staff were really nice, despite being busy they took the time to check on us. The samosa and chutney were right on point. The chutney had a nice almost banana flavor and the Samosa was very flavorful. The naan was also excellent! Unfortunately there were somethings that were not so great. The Zen Tea was super light, and the meatballs tasted rather rubbery. All and all I think I'd back for the vibe but I would try something different. read more

Outstanding! This is hands down, the best Indian place in town. First, the flavors are amazing. You can tell that they put a lot of love into each dish, and that they use only the highest-quality ingredients. Like, in the tomato-based sauces, you can actually taste the robust tomato flavor, with all its brightness and acidity (which is something I've only ever been able to get with top-shelf tomato brands). The cuts of chicken are huge, tender, premium cuts of chicken breast. There is no skimping on the spices either. If it says there's fenugreek (a pretty pricy spice!), you can actually really taste the fenugreek. If it says there's tamarind, you can actually taste the tamarind. Anyway, you get the point. It's absolutely delicious. All of it. (At least, of the 8 entrees and 2 appetizers I've tried so far. I intend to try them all.) I was a long-time, die-hard follower of another local Indian restaurant (rhymes with Dice Chalice). I had went there at least 50 to 100 times before the pandemic and had ordered literally every single item on their menu, but I think post-pandemic I'm going to have to defect. I kinda feel like I'm betraying an old friend when I say this, but: Masala Craft is just better. (Plus I went back recently and Dice Chalice's quality seems to have dropped off pretty significantly during the pandemic, so...) Anyway, the service is also great, and the atmosphere is very inviting. They've done a lot with this small space (where Hayashi, the ramen place used to be). If you like Indian food, or are curious to try it, go check out Masala Craft immediately. read more

We dined at Masala Craft on a recent visit to Williamsburg and I must say it was the best Indian food I've eaten in a long time. Our group of six had a lamb tandori, mango shrimp, salmon tandori and chicken masala but the most tasty dish, in my opinion, was the crab masala. The service was attentive and personable and the restaurant was well-maintained with a great ambiance. We thoroughly the experience and I'd highly recommend this restaurant. Kudos! read more

I was a little underwhelmed by my experience here. I've been reading such great things about this place on yelp and Facebook, so my expectations were high. I did takeout, so I can't say anything about the service. When I removed the food from my takeout bag, I was taken aback by how little there was compared to what we paid. The full size entree portions were in pint containers (those half Chinese food soup containers)... Of which I paid $18 for! The appetizer I had ordered was a tiny portion as well! The samosa was good, but before moving here, I used to be able to get 2 for $1. A couple entrees had great flavor, which is why I'm giving this place 3 stars. Others (particularly, grilled meat) were not very well cooked. They were dry, a little chewy, and just not something I would order again. Overall... I dont think I'll be coming back here. I don't mind paying what I did, if the meal portions were larger... But honestly, if we ate this without filling up on rice, we would be left a little hungry. read more

Beautiful decor and atmosphere (see pics), lovely owners and attentive staff. The food was delicious, flavorful and fresh. I eat vegan and there were many options! I got a "flight" with 3 dishes, a curry with peas and a cauliflower dish and one with garbanzo beans and potatoes. Bread was included. Yummy!! I am definitely going back and my goal is to try everything vegan. If I went once a week it would take months! For reference, most restaurants have 1-3 vegan options. Of course, the classic Indian dishes are on the menu too! I just didn't try them. There is outdoor seating too. I am so lucky I live close by! read more

Visiting my in-laws from CA for the holidays, they wanted to take us here. This was the most delicious Indian food we've had in a while. As we walked in for lunch it was busy on Christmas Eve. We tried the grilled Tandori Chicken Tikka, the Cashew Korma, Lamb Rogan, and the Garlic Naan. Let's say by the end; it was all gone! No leftovers at all. The restaurant is beautiful inside with romantic decors and bright, beautiful art on the walls. Comfortable seating for all! Family-owned restaurant and excellent service. Reading the prior reviews, I was extremely excited to try Masala Craft. I was looking forward to some amazing Indian food. However, be it from too high expectations or the resteraunt just having an off day(I can admit, we all have them), I was extremely disappointed. I started with the vegetable sampler appetizer. The samosa was good, the outside was crisp and flaky, and the interior had a good flavor. The pekoras were not crispy, unfortunately. And the jalapeno cheese cutlets were exactly like a big hush puppy, as someone had previously described. Unfortunately, for 9 dollars I felt it was underwhelming, to say the least. For entres, the spinach and corn (Malai methi corn), was good. I had ordered it mild spice becaise I wanted to share some with my young child - fyi, she liked it. The spinach was creamy and the corn was not overcooked. It was a good dish. My mixed grill was less so. The chicken breast was thin, and so was tough and overcooked. While the grilled tandoor flavor was there, it was hard to appreciate around it being dry. The fish ( I believe it was salmon) was good, also grilled, and was flaky and moist. The lamb, unfortunately, was very touch and chewy. The vegetables were well seasoned. It had a medium spice and the heat was perfect, it had a good bite. The butter chicken, also medium spice had great heat. The flavor was also very good. But it didn't stand out from other times I have ordered it. As you can see from the photos, we did not order any bread but we had enough rice to last several meals. As I said in the beginning, people have off times where they're not at their best. For the price of the food, the quality and the portion was just not worth it tonight. It's not a meal I would race back to have. Perhaps on the future, I will try my luck again. read more
