This was my second visit other than to buy gift cards, but it was not my last. Besides the food…read morebeing fantastic, the service was amazing. They took time to educate us on what we were eating, heat levels of spice, and were so patient with my group. I got the crab masala because I'd had it before and so wanted it again. It's simply delicious. Huge lumps of crab and a wonderful sauce. I opted for naan this time, and it also was great. They make it in house. It's fluffy, light, and well flavored. I'm interested in branching out and trying other items on the menu. I really like the spice combinations and want more of it.

My first thought was that one comes to Williamsburg expecting like a vegetable pastie or…read moregingerbread or something, not Indian food. To be fair though, India and Williamsburg were both British colonies. Having said that, this particular Indian restaurant has a Goan-influenced menu, which is actually the historically Portuguese part of India. There is a lot worth trying. It was a pleasant setting with indoor and outdoor tables; given the rain and wind I sat inside even though the outdoor tables were covered. Spoiled for choice, I got a fairly straightforward lentil soup to start before ordering a more adventurous dish of tofu and mushrooms in an onion-heavy curry. They offered the option to order okra as a side dish, which I don't usually see but jumped at the chance to do. An aloo paratha on the side was quite filling and good for mopping up the curry. Salt was a bit excessive, particularly with the bread I think. The actual amount of tofu in my curry could have been more, but the flavors were abundant. My chai arrived unsweetened and with options to sweeten it myself, which I deferred on. A lot of people got takeout, but for a place to eat in and get a high quality and regionally distinctive meal, this place fit the bill.

Well today was our second visit, with the first time being about 8 months ago…read more Frankly, I could cut and paste my last review for today. It was absolutely just a good as it was 8 months ago. Our server and all the staff were very friendly and attentive. I'm sure our water and sweet tea glasses were filled 2 or 3 times without asking. The food: well we like what we had before so much the wifey and I had same things. Her, the Saag with Chicken and me, the Shrimp & Chicken Zafrani. Both tasted great. The only thing is for me - I do wish my meal had maybe 1 more shrimp and 1 more chicken piece. Now this was the lunch meals, so maybe the dinner meal has a bit more. But still for $20 it was a nice meal. As for the location: Still after 8 months, looks great, well kept and clean. I will be back again and recommend you give this place a chance.

The space is BEAUTIFUL and definitely date night or girls night out vibes. For drinks, I did the strawberry basil spritz and it was super refreshing. We decided to order and share family style mostly because I had never had Indian food before. One of the friends isn't a spice girl so we did the lowest level of heat for everything. As someone who likes a little spice, I would probably go one level up in the future. Vegetable Biryani - This was the spiciest thing we had and it was super flavorful. Butter Chicken - This was definitely a reorder item - simply yummy. It was served with white rice. Garlic Naan - The naan was very garlicy which I love. It does linger on the breath so highly recommend a mint after dinner. Char-Grilled Salmon Tikka - This was the only thing I was a little disappointed in. The Salmon was cooked perfectly, but there wasn't a ton of flavor. The vegetables it came with was undercooked.

The ambience feels like a very nice, cozy Indian restaurant, and the staff were super friendly, warm, and attentive. A friend and I asked for a table for two and did not have to wait long before the server came to take our order. We got the masala dosa, chicken seekh kebab, butter chicken, garlic naan and the Bhindi (okra). The dosa, which came first, came with excellent sambar and coconut chutney. It can be very difficult to find authentic tasting coconut chutney at Indian restaurants, but this one really brought the flavor and was a highlight of the meal. The sambar was also very authentic and tasty. The dosa itself was crispy and hit the spot. The north Indian dishes also tasted great, the chicken kebab was tender and came with onions and peppers, which was a nice touched. The butter chicken was one of the better butter, chicken dishes I've had in recent memory and the Bhindi/okra was not too oily and packed with flavor. Next time I'm back in Williamsburg, I would love to come here again and can't wait.

Warm…read moregreeting at the door, comfortable seating, eye-poppingly bright décor against a dark background (also known as a 'wall,' or wallpaper, ha ha!) so it really stands out even more. The service was great, the food was delicious, the experience exalting. End result: relaxed, refreshed, ready to move on having been greatly nourished .... It was also fun to try some new things I had never had or seen before! That's always an added bonus when it happens -- and here, it did! I'd never seen 'Masala Papad' before, so of course I had to get it! It did not disappoint! I'd imagined the papadam being as they usually are -- flat -- and then in this dish that it would have some toppings on it, looking like a flat taco or a small pizza, but oh was I gladly wrong! Wow! Only thing is, I might be ruining this for someone else by taking away the joyous surprise! However, I understand that most people don't like a surprise as much as I do, so I guess it's okay to give it away. Anyway, these were super-flavourful and fun. I got the 'three' spice level. That's a wonderful aspect of dining here -- you get to choose your spice level, dish by dish. For the hot and sour soup, I got a 'two' spice level -- however I found it to be spicier than the two of the Masala Papad, and I'm guessing that's because, well, it's soup and so there is more of it closer together, rather than the air between pieces of various foods in the Masala Papad, and also the thermal heat of the soup probably elevates the feeling of spiciness. Another dish I had never tried was the Chilly Tofu. It was absolutely, spectacularly delicious not only in taste but the wonderful texture. In fact, I was so amazed by how good the texture was that in describing my delight, the waiter wondered if I had ever tried tofu before. I'd had tofu many, many times in my life in a large number of settings and so many different variations -- such as soft, pan-fried, deep-fried, in soup, skewered on a stick, served with all kinds of things -- but this particular tofu was just extra super-duper scrumdiddlyumptious! The three appetizers I ate filled me up enough that I didn't need anything else -- well, except chai, that is! -- so I didn't order an entrée, and will have to leave that for next time .... Might I add, it is an oasis from the heat and anything else going on outside ... and the dishes and drinks served here will also give your body more heat-fighting ability because that is the nature of Indian food! It's healthy! Not just nutritious but literally body-building -- including giving your immune system just what it needs .... Definitely, absolutely, certainly most highly recommended!

But when you have a lot of restaurants in Hampton Roads, you do lose track. Anyway, let's see how our stay went. We were greeted by the staff when we walked inside. There weren't a lot of people dining for lunch which was fine for the both of us. The less the crowd, the better. There were some tables that needed to be cleaned, but the staff did take care of it before we left. After a few minutes, we were ready to order. Here's what we had: -Strawberry Lassi (for myself) and Mango Lassi (for Sophia, not pictured below). The both of us enjoyed our selections which we've had before. So no descriptions are needed. -Tandoori salmon (for myself) and chicken hakka noodles (for Sophia, not pictured). I'm a sucker for tandoori dishes so this one was a home run. And salmon is fish that I enjoy eating so it was a no-brainer to select. It was cooked perfectly and seasoned great. Sophia enjoyed her meal as well. Another great visit here. Thanks again Aago for taking great care of us. Till next time :)

During our visits here, we've hardly had any issues with meals we ordered. Shall we get into the details? Foot traffic was minimal when we arrived and were seated immediately. I selected their chicken schezwan hakka noodle dish along with garlic naan bread to share with Sophia. The noodle dish was very good. I chose the mild spice and it was just right. There was so much served it took me three meals to finish the whole plate. Unfortunately, the garlic naan was underwhelming. When we received the order, it was hard to chew and the garlic taste wasn't strong. Usually, naan is soft when served, but not this time. Despite the naan disappointment, both of us walked away full. We started with the rosemary naan, garlic naan and the potato pea samosas. All were super delicious. The mint sauce and the tamarind sauce were very flavorful but a little too runny.
