The food was very good. Chicken was seasoned with a small hint of lime or lemon. The spicy green sauce was on point. I usually mix the green with the yellow to get a spicy kick of the yellow. But their version of green salsa is very good. Rice and black Ben's are exciting as well. The service was great and not so great. The lady who brought our food out the first time seemed to be having a bad day and showing it to us as she served us. The gentleman that bought out our food after was an excellent example of customer service. The ambience was to be expected. Great tasting food usually comes served inn places that look like a whole in the wall. Hence the phrase "hole in the wall restaurant" I wish I had taken some pictures but forgot to. Got a tamal de elote and pupsa de revueltas...disappointed. their menu is a little sketchy and a lot of things were crossed out. They should get that updated. I was hungry and wanted something fast to munch on since I was doing laundry next door. Their were more workers than customers so I don't understand why the food took almost 20 minutes to be ready. I lived in el salvador for 7 months and pupsas were made right in front of you and done in 5-8 minutes. The curtido/salsa lacked flavor and the actual pupusa was terrible, tamal de elote? So dry-.- I used to it being served with a side of crema... I will not come back. The place looked runned down and cafeteria like almost...I thought maybe they would have something to just choose and pack in a tray to go, but nope. It wasn't all that clean either. Stay away from this place. I tried to go get something to eat at 8:30pm tonight while waiting for my laundry next door. Stood there at the register for 5 mins while the workers give me dirty looks. Seriously? Then a girl says yes?while looking confused as why im there. I asked if i can please get a half chicken. She says rudely no more chicken. Wtf ?!? They close at 10. Got the special #2 with rice and beans, yuca, fries, and plantains. Parking lot is pretty tight and overall area seems a little sketchy. The food itself was not impressive. Some of the styrofoam containers were soaked through and the food seemed very oily, except the chicken. The chicken was seasoned okay, but not the best. The yellow sauce was not very good either. Plantains were super oily. Overall below the line and unlikely to return. read more

Dang! This place is the real deal! You know a Peruvian chicken place isn't messing around when there's a booth to send money back to loved ones in the motherland. The atmosphere is definitely on the divey side--it sort of resembles a cafeteria. The chicken is a good deal (16.50 for a whole chicken and two sides...which ended up being a bit too much for my husband and me) and it comes out QUICK and FRESH. The skin is so crispy and good. I haven't tried the other chicken place in Fairfax (the one near Trader Joe's, Wild Chicken) But my husband actually had it a week ago. He said this one was way better. They don't skimp on the sauce (I loved that green sauce!) and the plantains were good too. I wasn't crazy about the yucca fries--they were a little dry for my taste. I got the tamarind juice, which was good but very sweet, and my husband enjoyed their horchata. When we are in the mood for Peruvian chicken, this going to our go-to from now on! read more

3.5 * This place just opened in a new building, and we were pretty excited to give it a shot since the next closest peruvian chicken place is all the way up in Tyson's Corner (not that far on the map, but the traffic through Vienna is terrible). The pork and cheese pupusa was quite tasty, with a generous amount of sauce and curtido on the side. The chicken itself was a little disappointing (a touch dry and not as hot-off-the-spit as we like), but I chalk that up to it being a bit slow when we were there. On the other hand, my lomo saltado was delicious; the fries were good, the meat was flavorful, and there was a lot of it! As for the sides, the yucca fries were right out of the fryer and excellent, and they were nice enough to bring us an extra (delicious) corn tortilla right off the griddle halfway through the meal. Overall it was a pretty decent value, and the food was generally good, so we'll be back for the lomo saltado and to give the chicken another shot. read more

I've gone here dozens of times over the years because I liked the food, but they are always so rude and I'm just over it. It's like all the women there are so angry, I don't get it. The last time I went there, they ignored me standing there then told me they were out of chicken. I'm not sure if it was true or not. While I was waiting to be noticed, I saw the black mold on the three juice containers and that solidified my decision to stop going there. They need to deep clean that place and take some customer service training. There is a much better place right down the road that opened recently, Max's Chicken. Their chicken is better seasoned and crispier, they are polite and their restaurant is CLEAN. I'm done with Mary's. read more

Not the best peruvian chicken I've ever had. Just down the road is Wild Chicken and their chicken is better. This place doesn't seem to crisp the skin enough. I do like that you can choose the two sides that come with your chicken. I ordered fries and yucca. The yucca was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside! The fries were crispy, thick cut but nothing special. A quarter chicken and two HUGE sides for $6.00. The price is great. I like how they have more on their menu then just peruvian chicken and yucca. They had a lot of different soups and stews. I saw someone ordered the fried fish with rice and it looked amazing. Can.t wait to try the other stuff but not the chicken again. read more

This place is extraordinary . It is so much better than that other chicken place in Fairfax,VA plus it's a little cheaper to boot. Obviously, their crispy yuca and chicken is the main items to get. I came here for some Peruvian chicken. Was sadly disappointed. Chicken was dry and the French fries were blah. I did see a variety of Salvadoran and Honduran food. So it might not be a terrible restaurant just terrible at Peruvian chicken. Will be back but not for the Chicken! And omg lol at the best fries in USA comment! That has to be a joke. You have to be determined to find this place tucked between a carwash and a laundromat (and not where the Yelp map indicates it is). First, some don'ts. Don't go for the atmosphere. The furnishings are shabby and haphazard under fluorescent lights. Don't go for the service. There is none to speak of and the staff is borderline surly. Don't go for the chicken, in spite of the top billing it is given. Don't go for the chopped iceburg lettuce salad without dressing. The food is authentically Peruvian. We had the carne asada and lomo saltada. Judging from the wait time, they were freshly prepared. The meat was tender and flavorful. The rice tasted as though it was straight from Lima. This is a place where you sit down, eat, and get out. In spite of all the negatives, we would return for the authentic cuisine. read more

Definitely very happy that I decided to take the plunge and eat my lunch here! I had two papusas.. One pork and one with beans. I am giving four stars because, while the employees did eventually get the food to the non-Spanish speaking patrons, it sometimes took a while because they called out the orders in Spanish when they were ready to be picked up from the counter. The sauces were good and the beans reasonably tasty but the Chicken was mediocre at best, pretty tasteless and definitely didn't seem like it had been flame roasted. I ordered their chicken rotisserie and although it looked yummy it was hardly yummy at all. It was over cooked and dry tasting. The seasoning wasn't that great but I guess that's what happens when you don't have all the juices to absorb all the nice flavors. I saw other people order other stuff and they looked delicious. Really good chicken! Tender, juicy and full of flavor! I absolutely love their yuca which is really crispy and just melts in your mouth! I haven't tried anything else other than the chicken so I can't speak for the rest of the menu. The only thing I would change is their yellow sauce, I tend to like the thicker sauce which is more mayo based, but the one they give is still pretty good. 5 stars for being the best chicken in fairfax! read more

Stood there literally for 5 mins while the staff just looked at us like we totally don't speak Latin and we don't but damn I can point!! Finally one of the guys gets the nerve to ask us what we need? We ask for the number two special which is a whole chicken and 4 sides. He says they have no Rotisserie chicken and the fryer had already been turned off. Off like the grease was COLD in the fryer. I just found this new place a couple weeks ago and stopped by to visit. The grilled chicken was great. My friend has pollo saltado and the chicken was a little dry, but the spicing was very good. Next time we'll try the lomo saltado. The plantains and horchata were good too. It seems like a very good place serving Mexican, Salvadoran, and some Peruvian/Bolivian dishes. I couldn't believe the rating for this place after trying their food. I have lived in the area for over a year and neglected Mary's solely due to their yelp rating. I was told by a half Peruvian gentleman that it was actually quite delicious so I thought I'd give it a try. DONT BE FOOLED BY THE DECOR. This is a hole in the wall type of place (those seem to have some of the best foods) so the appearance may be misleading. I have the Lomo Saltado and it was great, especially for the price and portion. Based on quality, portion, and cost this was a great deal. I found the chicken to be delicious. I had the 1/4 chicken white meat with 2 sides. The meat was moist and the skin was spiced perfectly. I also had the black beans and french fries. I liked the flavor and consistency of the beans. They were pureed. The french fries were golden brown and crisp. Overall, a pleasant experience,. the ladies behind the counter were all very nice and friendly. This review is unsolicited and filtered wrongly. This place is located in a small strip mall that was renovated on the exterior, but the interior of the business feels dismal and looks dirty. The folks working here seem indifferent to customers.
