We had about a two-hour wait while our car was being serviced, so we decided to walk to the nearest plaza and grab some lunch. We have always enjoyed Mary's Pizza Shack in the past and wanted to try their lunch. When we arrived, we were greeted, but it did take a while for someone to seat us. Once we were seated, we decided to check out their lunch menu. Our server, Alexis, was very nice and helpful. My husband decided to have Dan's Caprese Sandwich, and I chose a slice of pizza (three toppings were pepperoni, mushrooms, and olives) with a salad. While we waited for our food, we noticed all the employees were busy at work, but also taking time to greet customers and get to know everyone. My pizza and salad came, yet my husband's food was not done. I shared my salad with him and then waited for his food. Our server did come over and apologize for the delay in his food and explained the situation. Once his sandwich came out, we were ready to eat. He loved his sandwich and said he thinks a burger would go great with similar items. My pizza was good and filling. Homeless guy hacking up a lung and spitting multiple times into a Starbucks cup he brought in detracts from the experience. He is using his finger to get every bit of butter out of the containers while eating his soup. Feel like I am in downtown San Francisco as he licks his roll. Compassionate of me side set him a pizza, no thank you but he was grateful. Not bothering anyone but the Hawk Tuah into the cup catches your attention. Just FYi... My two daughters (9 & almost 6) went to Mary's in the middle of the day for a bite to eat after a park date. We were greeted and seated quickly. The girls were happy to get their own mini pizzas with the toppings of their choice, and I enjoyed fettuccine. It had been a number of years since I had Mary's, and I think it was my first time at the Vacaville location (I'm originally from Fairfield). This restaurant felt similar to what I remember from the Fairfield location with the decor. I do think the dining area may be a little bit smaller, but that wasn't a problem for us. read more

My husband and I enjoyed a delicious lunch here today. Being a picky eater who loves fresh and healthy options makes it difficult for me to try new places in fear I will be disappointed. Delighted to say everything here tasted delicious and extremely fresh! We each had a Turkey Supremo sandwich, my husband added bacon to his. The focaccia bread was seasoned well and soft, we ordered our sandwiches "hot", which toasted the bread slightly. I enjoyed the starter salad and the minestrone soup as well. I was in this restaurant earlier this evening and while I was waiting for my food I saw a cockroach just walking along the floor. I am absolutely appalled at this I will not be coming back to the restaurant. I'd recommend others not come here either. An absolute disgrace what this place had become. All I can say is Wowwww. They are so rude and inept. Completely shocked about my experience. Ordered online. I was roughly 6 minutes after proposed completion time. Walk in and there's a few people in line ahead of me. During such time a server walks by abruptly and was a couple inches from me without saying excuse me, or anything. On hold for 10 minutes waiting for manager. It's close to closing time. I hang up and call again. Young man answers. I inform him I just called and was on hold for 10 minutes thinking I was forgotten. He said manager is busy. I said I get that but no one came back to the phone and then he interrupts me, raises his voice and says "Ma'am our manager is busy and she doesn't have time etc etc... extremely rude Ummm I'm sorry this is not where you get to be right. You would think someone would take your name and number Screw this place... I was looking for a new Italian spot and had been frequently ordering from here. No issues until last night. I worked in the food industry for 6 years. I get kids aren't what they used to be, but standards and expectations should be adhered to and consistent. You cannot fix what you do not know about, but now I'm letting them know this way since their phone skills are lacking. Horrible, horrible place. Do better. We love the Vacaville Mary's Pizza Shack. It is in my opinion 10× better than the one located in Fairfied. The servers are friendly, even as you walk by the take our area and you see the food prep people they acknowledge you and great you or say goodbye. If the owner is behind the counter he always says something expressing thanks for you coming in. The grands love their pizzas- especially the pepperoni Pizza. My favorite is the gnocchi or the He & She giant meatballs smothered in meat sauce and mozzarella. You can't ever go wrong with their minestrone soup (secret but you have to keep pouring more and more parmesan cheese on top) or mozzarella garlic bread. read more

I don't recall the last time my Wife and I had ate here. Today, we stopped in on our way home and quickly realized what, we have been missing right here locally. We, were immediately greeted by Patrick our Host/Server and offered us to sit anywhere that would make us comfortable. The Ambiance was quite fresh, clean and welcoming. Our food was simple for my Wife salad and plenty full/fresh. I had the minestrone soup first which was a meal itself quite flavorful and balanced just right. My, spaghetti with meat sauce and quite a large meatball arrived and all I can say is "Fantastic and delicious"! Also, the garlic bread was mouth watering, hot, cheesy and the right amount of garlic. Now, beyond any words Patrick defines Customer Service and what Mary's Pizza Shack is today. Not, just us but everyone that walked in the door. I think Mary's deserves more than 3 stars, but you gotta know what to order. Their pepperoni pizza is fantastic. They don't skimp on the meat, the sauce and cheese are adequately portioned given the crust and it's overall just really well balanced. I love that the crust is on the thinner side but still has some chew to it. The mozzarella they use is a good one too-- salty but not overly so, and a great texture even just shredded and topped on a salad. Speaking of salad... I personally love their salad, it's simple with a bit of beats and beans thrown in (just in little piles) so it's not the most fancy salad but it's homey and satisfying. Mary's especially does a fantastic job on their homemade ranch dressing. It's thick, salty, and just plain delicious. And yes, they do have some other items but they've never wow'd me-- given that it's a pizza shack just stick to the pizza (but order a salad too so you can dip your pizza in that ranch and indulge!)! Whenever I'm in California and in proximity to a Mary's it's a must visit for me. read more

Always enjoy the food at Mary's. This was my first time going to this particular restaurant. Not sure I'd go again as the service received was not even lukewarm. My kids and I were not greeted upon arrival. We stopped in for birthday dinner for my son. Only asked how many after it appears we bothered the server while she was cleaning. After taking our order and food being dropped off, she never came back and checked on us. We weren't offered refills. Keep in mind we were one of two parties in the restaurant so the only other thing she was doing was cleaning for the night as we arrived around 6:50 pm and they closed at 8 pm. If Mary's food wasn't consistently good I wouldn't have given this visit a 3 star review. read more

This location is usually on top of their game. I stopped in for a birthday dinner. Since I last been in they had an eggplant sandwich on a focaccia. But had since changed up the menu. I decided on sandwich with a lime salsa Verde/cabbage. It was actually delicious. My gripe is about my daughters burger she ordered. She never asked for a plain one. But they brought out a plain one. No fixings, not even cheese. It probably would have not been that bad to eat if it was a traditional hamburger bun, but it was not....the bread was a bit hard and of course dry to bite into because there was no condiments on it. We sent it back they put some toppings on... but no condiments on the bread she just had a difficult time trying to eat this. By then her fries were cold . This has not deterred me from returning. My family stopped in to eat here to support my boys school because this restaurant offers 20% for donations. The food was very good. I ordered the meatball sandwich which I thought was perfectly made. I should have asked for melted mozzarella on top and parmesan cheese but other than that I thought it was delicious. Minestrone could have used more seasonings but tasted nice with the fresh bread and butter that came to the table. My children ordered the chicken strip meal and they really enjoyed it. I do really enjoy this place.. the food seems to be pretty consistent.. I came here for lunch and just wanted a slice of pizza and salad. My daughter wanted the pesto tortellini and minestrone. The bred basket was delicious per usual... I dipped some into the soup and both were delicious, the minestrone was good, had a strong taste of ham, and lots of meat and veggies. I tried a bite of the tortellini the rich creamy pesto sauce was positively amazing!!! My salad did not disappoint, I love Mary's salads.. the toppings and the ranch are so good!!! The pizza was soggy and the guys making the pizza were rude. They seemed annoyed that my 8 daughter was sitting at the bar to watch them make pizza. At the Fairfield location they welcomed her and offered her a piece of dough to play with while she watched them make pizza. Here, they ignored her and made a remark about being watched as we walked out the door. I can see why there are unhappy. The quality of food has declined. Service was great, waitress was attentive and quick! Ambiance is typical Mary's chain, nothing special. Food was just average all around though. The pizza dough isn't the same as it used to be, I don't believe the bread is a sourdough anymore either. The shrimp bruschetta literally has one shrimp on a piece of bread with sauce over it. Expected there to be tomatoes and basil with it but there wasn't. My favorite item was always the gnocchi with meatball but sadly this was also a disappointment. Meatball was overly dense and lacked flavor. Gnocchi texture was too soft and a bit gooey. If this is the food quality now, I can see why so many locations have closed. read more

I came in here with a date Friday night at 845pm after a movie. I was very rudely told by a staff member that the restaurant closes in 10mins, which was confusing since the closing time shows as 9pm, not 845. I got the feeling like I was interrupting a rushed teenage managed hangout rather than stopping by my favorite hometown pizza place. This place has really gone down over the years and it seems to continue to get worse. I understand that everywhere has a closing time, but if they are planning on closing early and not accepting new customers then please change the listed hours and turn off the "open". We used to have this restaurant nearby but it closed. So when we drove by Vacaville we stopped by for a quick dinner. The Mary's salad is fresh, crispy, full of good things with the most amazing homemade dressing-delicious! The spaghetti is a favorite, the sauce is amazing. The bread fell short, expected the warm crusty bread fresh from the oven like the old days but ours was cold, and not fresh at all. Still, Mary's will always be a favorite. Service was perfect. First time eating here and it won't be the last because the food was Amazing!! Few items we tried were the Meat Calzone which is one of the best I have ever had and the dough has excellent taste. Minestrone Soup is made with ham hock which is an amazing flavor to the soup and definitely unexpected and mind blowing out of this world!! Caesar Salad was ok the dressing is different than most Caesar dressing I have had but it wasn't terrible. Our waiter was amazing and the ambience of the restaurant is super quaint. I ordered a small cheese pizza $17 and a large half and half (Toto's combo and garlic Tuscan chicken) $37 and some change. They have an inflation promo, BOGO. So the cheese pizza was free. Got there and didn't realize it was a restaurant! This whole time I thought it was just a pizza joint that you pick up and go. Got greeted right when we walked in. Anyways, we got there and our pizza was ready. The cheese pizza was so cheesy, good quality cheese. The crust had a nice chew to it. Comforting italian eatery near Brendan theaters with old school booths, decor is dated but it's an aged establishment (regional chain owned/operated by the Fazios for over 3 generations, 60 years+). Our party of four dined in and shared a large classic pizza, the Napoletana (fresh diced tomatoes, garlic, basil and olive oil, topped with mozzarella, added sausage, ~$28), crust was nice and thin, tasted fresh. Perfect amount for us (11 slices). I do recommend eating the pizza as soon as possible or reheat in oven for takeout as the bottoms will get soggy.
