Real down home cooking and atmosphere! Great, quick service! Very cool news clippings and knickknacks on the walls to check out as well...

We tried Mary's for breakfast. It was decent. We got seated right away and got coffee and water fast. We started out by sharing a cinnamon roll. It was just okay. A bit dry. My wife had the BEC (bacon, egg, cheese) sandwich. It came with chips. She enjoyed it. I got the Eggs with CFS (chicken fried steak) breakfast. I got sourdough toast and hash browns with it. I added a bit of salt to the CFS and I really enjoyed the entire meal. We're planning on returning to try their all-you-can-eat seafood (Thu, Fri, Sat nights) soon.

Second time eating at this little food heaven. This omelet is absolutely delicious. Staff is so friendly as well.

    Mary's Brazos!

Been to Mary's Brazos twice in the last two weeks- both times taking out-of-town family visitor's. Me: "Feel like some amazing home cooking?" Them: " yea... chicken fried steak!" Me: "I know just the place!" Over the top food! Best Chicken Fried Steak, mashed potatoes, gravy, and fried okra in Texas! Green beans great, too! Brother liked the baked sweet potato!

Honestly if you have a problem with Mary's you need to do some serious soul searching, or get the hell outta Texas! Mary's is everything a person could want in a good ole' Texas diner. Wait stars if super friendly and some of the hardest workers I've ever seen. Always a smile on their face! The food is SO AWESOME and I'm not lying when I say it came out in LESS than 10 minutes!!! I honestly don't know how their prices are so cheap for food that is so good!! If you like hole in the wall places, with a Texas feel and good food.... THIS PLACE IS FOR YOU!!!

The rumors are true Rio Brazos Grill is fantastic. Not "good for a small town," not "surprisingly…read moredecent" just flat-out good. The kind of place where it's immediately obvious someone in the kitchen actually knows what they're doing, which already puts it ahead of most restaurants pretending to. The meal starts strong with flash-fried calamari Fresno chilies, sweet chili sauce, balanced heat, and a clean execution. It comes as strips, which feels a little safe. Rings or whole baby squid would've shown more technical confidence, but fine the flavor still delivers, and at the end of the day, that's what people actually remember. The Calabria chili shrimp follows with the same sense of control: spicy, but not trying to prove a point. Paired with grilled baguette, it does exactly what it's supposed to do support the dish instead of getting in the way. And then there's the Chicken Fried Ribeye, which sounds like a bad decision until you eat it. Crispy on the outside, rich and tender underneath, covered in black pepper gravy with buttermilk mashed potatoes, a potato nest, and because apparently restraint is optional--two fried quail eggs. It's excessive, but not stupid. That's a very fine line, and they walk it well. Chef Clint Connaway clearly has classical training--nobody just stumbles into a proper beurre blanc. The menu pulls from Southwestern, Native American, Mexican and French influences, which should feel chaotic but somehow doesn't. It works because the execution is consistent, even when the ideas get a little ambitious. That said, the place isn't perfect. The quail eggs show up so often they start to feel less like a signature and more like a habit. And for all the technical skill, there's a noticeable lack of local identity. With Bosque Ranch right down the road, it's hard not to wonder why more local beef isn't front and center. A stronger focus on seasonal or locally sourced ingredients would push this from great to something more grounded--something that actually tastes like where you are. And then there's the obvious question: why no brunch? A kitchen like this could absolutely dominate a brunch service. Instead, it's just... not happening, which feels like wasted potential. Still, none of that changes the core truth. The food is thoughtful, the technique is real, and most importantly you leave feeling satisfied instead of questioning your life choices. That alone is worth something.

DELICIOUS! I actually heard about this place from a Reddit post about places to stop on a road trip…read moreacross Texas and I'm so glad I listened! It's home cooked food, calories-not-monitored, but worth every single bite. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but I knew it was going to be good when we saw the parking lot was overflowing into the grass. Luckily there was still an open table inside and we were welcomed by the sweetest staff and our waitress was just as wonderful. So many things looked good on the menu, but I couldn't resist ending this road trip with another taste of chicken fried steak to compare to Mary's (and they can definitely compete because it was AWESOME)! We also tried the chicken fried chicken (delicious), sweet potato casserole (amazing), Mae's potato casserole (tasty), cheese sticks (good), and the hamburger and fries which was obviously delicious enough that my picky daughter almost finished it - which says a LOT! We were very glad that we'd ordered the "smaller portions" for lunch because it meant we could grab a few of the desserts to go to snack on for our final leg of the road trip and keep enjoying at home. We tried the toffee cake (incredible), peanut butter cake (sinfully good), and the coconut pie (very light and creamy)! We also snagged some items to take home with us from their coolers and I can 100% recommend their pork tamales and summer sausage. If you get the chance to stop here, you won't regret it at all! Delicious, great service, and good portions!

The cocktails were spot on, and the steaks came out cooked perfectly. Most of the sides were great, though I'd probably skip the macaroni next time, it just lacked flavor. Our server was super friendly and did an excellent job pacing the meal so everything flowed smoothly. The only hiccup was a water glass showing up with bright red lipstick on it, but it was taken care of immediately, no harm, no foul. The experience starts with the hostesses who seem to think they are working in a Michelin starred establishment. Then the disappointment moves into the dining experience. Poorly cut steaks, and items you'd find in a Cotton Patch cafe. All at a price point that screams "we are in a hotel in Granbury who thinks it is the Beverly Hilton, just minus the money, service, and accoutrements." The difference being that the restaurants in Beverly Hills actually live up to the expectations, and even they aren't so full of themselves.
