I arrived 40 minutes later to find a toddler inside my million-dollar home, throwing monster trucks onto custom cabinetry and bamboo floors. I was shocked. I don't have children, and the idea of a toddler being in my home--both for the safety of my property and the child--was completely unacceptable. The owner tried to smooth things over but offered no discount or acknowledgment of how inappropriate and unprofessional this was. They came back to "redo" the cleaning, and within just a few hours they claimed they were done. Dust behind the toilets was still there. They insisted I check everything on the spot, but anyone who has ever moved knows that you cannot catch every detail when you're juggling a dozen tasks--especially when you're paying professionals to handle it. When my partner arrived, she opened the microwave and oven. Both were still dirty, and with nothing more than a damp paper towel, everything wiped clean effortlessly. That alone told me the job had not been done properly the first--or second--time. I paid them just to be done with the situation, but looking back, I shouldn't have paid the owner anything. From what I understand, she charges an outrageous amount and only pays the cleaners around $100 each, which is incredibly unfair. On top of all that, I was informed that wiping the exterior windows was "extra," even at a $600 price tag. They ended up doing it, but at that point it was clear nothing was really included. The cleaners said they normally start in the primary bedroom, and when it wasn't available at the start time, they went to the kitchen. So far so good. And I'm working alongside - like I said, we're prepping the house, it's a team sport. But then they'd start to get sidetracked or hyperfocused on non-issue areas like intensely scrubbing the top inside of the oven or wiping each blind over and over. I really don't want to be micromanaging, so I text the HQ and just make sure we're on the same page of the things that were outlined in their inclusions. I say that since we're mostly interested in taking care of stuff that will show in photos, I wonder if we could deprioritize the drawer interior wiping and organizing. And they would respond to that, but then get hung up on something else. What didn't make sense to me was, again, the fact that the house was in a pretty normal condition as far as the stuff that people usually have around the house, but the cleaners were operating like they were only used to doing a rental deposit prep after belongings had been taken out. Fast forward to now, several days later. Every day I'm finding things that were definitely in their cleaning path that were completely ignored.
