We signed up our 4 year old daughter after she asked for dance lessons. The class is fun. They have music, scarves, bean bags, a parachute and everyone seems to enjoy the class. A few children (mine included) have mentioned that they wish they did the "real ballet" that can be seen in the studios with older children. In due time! The website was easy to use to sign up for classes. The site mentioned a strict dress requirement of footed pink tights, pink leotard and pink ballet flat shoes. We found these items at Stride Rite so it was no problem for us. Several children have outfits that don't adhere to the dress code. I don't think they fret about it at the young ages. I don't like that they have a vending machine filled with junk food right when we walk in. The location is great. The facility is clean and bright. read more

I've taken the Wednesday ballet class For beginner adults and have enjoyed it. The instructor is very nice and knowledgeable. The group size is usually 10-14 people. Everyone seems nice and pleasant to each other. Overall I've enjoyed attending the classes read more

Love this studio!!! I've been taking adult drop in classes here several times a week for years now. The instructors and accompanists are fantastic read more

I grew up going when it was located in Bethesda. I still enjoy going and taking adult classes. They are the best!

I used to go here on a weekly basis before COVID and it was fine. I liked classes with Lisae. I check the website to monitor if I'll be able to return but as long as they enforce a mask policy (when the government of Maryland itself does not) for an activity that used to have me leaving with a sweaty red face out of breath and NO mask.. I won't be returning. They actually advise on the website for you to bring multiple masks due to it getting damp and sweaty. How is this a better option or more sanitary..? read more

Horrible customer service. They are less than supportive with the parents or the students.

Had to pull my kid out- very rude staff and incredibly impersonal teachers. Your kids deserve better!

Old people in adult classes are stuckups and mean despite the fact that they are not even good at ballet and are ugly. Who they think they are? Young people are ok. Youth are beautiful and talented. They have been receiving great instruction, I can tell. Accompanists are brilliant. Levon and his dad are incompartible to all the accompanists in other ballet schools. Nice facility. Current instructors for adult ballet classes are all lame. Can't they found anybody better than those? I find instructors cold too. Conclusion. I left Cz of the ugly and nasty adult dancers and cold instructors. read more

I took a couple adult drop in classes here and was really impressed with the teachers. The studio is very professional and they have live accompaniment for the ballet classes. Classes are also offered in floor barre, stretch, and pilates. They have a couple studios and they are all pretty large. The focus is on youth training, which I cannot comment on directly, but the oodles of kids/teens running around in leotards seemed pretty happy. read more

Staff at the front desk is rude, incapable, slow and racist. Their system was down. It was my first time there and the experience was horrible read more

Adult Beginning Ballet II. I wasn't going to do this. I wasn't going to take lessons from more than one studio. I'm not that kind of girl! Or so I told myself. Even as I regularly checked MYB's adult drop-in schedule. Wandering eyes led me to the studio today and, I will be going back. But I will also keep going to WB-S. I know I am a tramp, but WB's one Beginner class a week just isn't enough for me. OK, let me be honest. If my work schedule permitted, this would be my regular studio. If your work schedule allows you to get over there by 7.15 pm (and it is walking distance from SS Metro), guess what? You are fresh out of excuses not to take ballet lessons. And did I mention, the 1st lesson is free. I found the BBII class roughly equivalent to WBs Beginner. Again, it was not an easy class. I really liked the teacher and student ages ran the gamut of the word adult. If asked which studio I would recommend, I would not. I like both for different reasons. read more

I really enjoyed the drop-in classes I took here: floor barre and Pilates. Great instruction and great attention from the teachers who spotted my movement strengths and weaknesses with an expert eye. Both those classes really compliment my other athletic pursuits: lifting, running and swimming. Floor barre gets every little muscle and tendon with very precise, controlled, small movements that are safe. And, well, a good Pilates class just can't be beat because if you aren't keeping your core engaged no matter which athletic endeavor you choose, you greatly increase your chances of injury. I'd recommend these classes to anyone. Oh, and there were really fun, too!! We laughed a lot in class. Heck, I am even tempted to take ballet again!! read more

I am so very grateful for this dance studio and their adult classes. First, I am appreciative of their inclusive and supportive culture which is expressed through their masking policies. It feels so good to know that there is a safe space for those of us who need to be extra cautious with COVID. I also appreciate the integrity of their beginning level classes. I love, love, love the opportunity to stand next to women who are 20 years my senior and absolutely killing it with their technique and fantastic alignment. The teachers take the time to get to know my name and answer my questions after class. After noticing their set up for hybrid classes (which seems to go very smoothly) I emailed some questions about their protocol and I received not only two very nice emails, but one of the teachers offered to explain it to me after class. They really are providing a valuable service to our community. read more

Amazing! I just moved here a few weeks ago and was looking to get my daughter socialized. She suggested ballet! After a lot of digging I found this amazing place- that is only 1 mile away! The directions for enrolling online were crystal clear- along with the requirements for the different classes. Which is very helpful for someone new to the ballet world. I was able to register my daughter the day the class started. The office staff was helpful and getting my paperwork all done! My daughters teacher miss Lisa gave me a great vibe as soon as a saw her! I know my daughter can be a talker and she does amazing with her. The class size is small so I feel like the kids get to learn a lot because the teacher isn't trying to wrangle 12 girls at a time. The facility is nice and clean which I love! Will definitely bring my daughter here as long as she wants to stay read more

This is a horrible place to invest you time and money in. They are unfair and have heartless people working there especially Alyce Jenkins the director... I have had dramatic changes in my situation and asked them to give me a refund and bend there harsh policy and they refused and had no sympathy or sensitivity in my personal hardship situation. I was highly unsatisfied with the treatments from the staff and director. This business has horrible customer service. Please don't waste your money on this program for your kids it is unacceptable the way they run their business. There policies for a refund is Highway robbery unfair and unacceptable. read more

There is no better place to study ballet in the DC area with the exception of the Washington Ballet, which is on par and whose director is a graduate of MYB. Exceptional teachers, exceptional accompaniment, best floors in the DMV. MYB students regularly get into major dance companies around the world. This is an exceptional place to study ballet at any level. read more

I am a very late beginner for adult ballet and traveled couple of ballet schools in Washington metropolitan area. This dance school is by far the best one I have ever been to. Very professional and experienced ballet teachers with levels of classes to fit anyone's challenge. Despite of the levels, all of the ballet classes are 90 minutes long which tells me how serious the school is toward adult ballet. The location of studio is convenient, near Silver Spring metro and Sliver Spring Downtown center. And the decoration is absolutely wonderful. High ceilings, bright lighten room, whole mirror wall, solid even floor, just looks like 5 star dance studio, it cheers me up every time when I went in. The most importantly, every adult class comes with live piano music, there is even a grand piano for one of the adult class. What more can I ask for!!! read more

This company is the way to go for ballet lessons!!! It's not just a fun cute little class you take for fun. Nope! This is a serious school dedicated to learning and honing an art. The teachers are diligent about discipline and excellence! I love how many programs and activities are offered throughout the year. Makes it fun for my dtr to interact with her ballet teacher and friends outside of class. One word of advice would to sign your child up for an entire year of classes and have the funds auto-debited from your account. That ensures you get the class you want on the day/time u want with the teacher you want. The one thing I don't like is that there is no "recital"/performance for the younger kids. I would love to see some sort of short show at the end of each session. read more

Our daughter has been attending classes at MYB for over 6 years and has loved it. We are impressed with what she has learned and with the high level of professionalism demonstrated by the teachers. I highly recommend MYB. They accept students of all abilities, shapes and sizes. It isn't until age 10 and higher that students may have difficulty because of their feet or weight. Even if they do, they can repeat a class and continue on until they try for pointe. read more

Beautiful studios, ideally located. Highly qualified and wonderful teachers who offer challenging classes for adult students. The desk staff is also great and the environment is very supportive. Love dancing here! read more

I love the classes here. I took ballet growing up and wanted to start again as an adult. Maryland Youth Ballet offers drop-in classes for adults 7 days a week and I am able to find classes at my level (beginner) that fit into my busy schedule. The instructors are great and really friendly as are the other students. Classes can get crowded though. There is no need to be intimidated if you are a beginner. Students come in all ages, shapes and sizes. read more

My daughter takes lessons here. She loves it and her teachers. Just went to their Mini Nut performance (shorter version of The Nutcracker without the "scary" parts) and it was awesome! Perfect for little ones like mine. read more

I've been going here for about 5 years now doing adult drop in classes, and haven't found anything not to love. Beautiful space, amazing accompanists for class, a great variety of teachers and levels. Best of all, it is a very welcoming environment for all kinds of people with all degrees of ballet experience. The presence of many regulars who have been going here for decades speaks for itself. If you end up being really passionate about ballet, as I did, you can learn as much as you want to. I guess what I am getting at is that the adult program here is not a write-off. There's no sense of "Oh, they're older, this isn't taken as seriously." The teachers will happily meet you at your level of interest. Bonus: in the higher levels, you will get to take class with some beautiful professional dancers. Even if you aren't interested in ballet, I would still come just for the floor barre and Core Conditioning and stretch classes. They really teach you how to work smart as well as work hard, so your effort will be efficiently used to create a healthy, capable, balanced body. I could go on forever but I'll shut up now :) Okay, one more thing: First class is free! read more

Pilates - all levels. I had my second class today. I've done pilates elsewhere and haven't found an instructor as good as Roberta. She is very knowledgable and I can't wait to go back! read more

I love this studio! Inspiring accompanists (Levon and Arshak are my faves), high quality teachers (Julie Miles is awesome) and great studio spaces. I am so glad that I started coming here and have really seen my technique improve since I started studying there. They had a wonderful adult intensive weekend this summer as well that was fun and a great learning experience. I love MYB and highly recommend it as a wonderful place to learn and an equally great community. read more

Don't let the name fool you. This is BY FAR the best ballet studio for children and adults in the DC area! The academy trains students who become professional dancers every year, including brilliant soloists like Julie Kent (at ABT) and many others throughout the US and Europe. The children's program now accepts little ones as young as two and has a release-time program for the most serious teenage dancers. The faculty members are of the highest caliber, each offering different styles, personalities and choreography. The adult program is unparalleled in the area, with anywhere from 800 to 1,000 dancers coming to the 35 classes offered each week. In addition to every level of ballet class, MYB offers stretch and core conditioning classes, which include many students who have never set foot in a ballet studio. However, the studio also has an excellent program for adult beginners, some of whom start in midlife and dance well in to their 70's! Regardless of the level, the adult class is taught by a member of the academy's outstanding faculty. Classes for adults are offered 7 days a week, day and night, and the studio almost never closes. Every class, for kids and adults, is accompanied by live music! Some of the pianists offer concert-quality "performances" for every single ballet class. I've been dancing since I was 5 years old and have never encountered such accomplished musicians (Arshak and Levon) who play such varied and extraordinary music , enhancing the sheer joy of dancing ballet. The recently-built studio is bright, beautiful, has high ceilings, marly floors and is located in a bustling part of Silver Spring, MD, near the Metro and with many restaurant and retail establishments nearby. There are 5 separate dance studios, all of which are often buzzing with different classes at the same time. It's truly the only game in town for dancers at all levels! read more

I did not have a good experience with my daughter. She is autistic and I enrolled her in the "adaptive ballet" course taught by Mary Henley. Mary is difficult to work with - she knows virtually nothing about developmental disability. She likes girls who have motorcar impairment who lay there and smile and whom she can have aides "act upon." She did not like my daughter because her disability involves sensory issues and she was at times, resistant or fearful about new experiences. No interest in working through these things at all. Yes, we were discriminated against by a an adaptive ballet program. It SUCKS to say that in 2015, but it is true. read more

I have a 5 year old daughter and she was a student in the Early Dance Division, Creative Movement. We did not have a good experience. I suppose the quality of the dance instruction was acceptable, but the teaching was not of equal quality. I found the instructor, Kristin, intolerant, chronically unkind and painfully unaware of developmentally appropriate behaviors & teaching techniques. My child is extremely well behaved, excited about ballet and follows directions well. She was never in trouble or on the receiving end of any sort of discipline. HOWEVER, there were other children in the class, who had a harder time following directions. They would talk or wiggle or wouldn't sit as quickly as expected, all reasonable (and NORMAL!) behaviors for a 4-5 year old child. Often, I felt the directions given were neither appropriately nor clearly given considering the age of the audience. I felt my child spent her class time listening to the teacher being unkind to her fellow classmates. FInally, after weeks of asking my child if she wanted to go (she always did) I spoke to two people in the front office. Interestingly, they seemed to zero in on the less than perfect children involved NOT on the manner in which the teacher was managing the class. We didn't finish our session and we will never go back. That experience made me think that the MYB environment, even at the Early Dance Division level, encourages 'discipline' over actual dance instruction. I would have felt much better if the teacher had spent more time ignoring bad behavior and rewarding good behavior. I would have liked for the teacher not to use time outs and taking away 'free dance' at the end of the class as a punishment for appropriate 4-5 exuberance during class. I found her management of the children far more cruel and disruptive than any of the innocent effervescence of the students. I will have to go over the river and through the woods to Ballet Petit, where we had a lovely experience, for future ballet classes. read more

I went to MYB for 4 years. Last year, they told me I couldn't move on to pointe because of my plea. That was the first time they had ever told me that out of the four years I was there. Most of the teachers are great but some criticize you just to make you feel horrible. They can be very racist, even though they do not verbally show it, and only pay attention to "la creme de la creme". They want the "perfect dancer" Perfect body, perfect color, perfect hair, money, popularity and age. I would not recommend this school to anyone however, if you think your daughter is "perfect', then send her. I suggest you look at City Dance or Washington School of Ballet. read more

This is a heaven for ballet in the city for adults, it's a shame that the don't offer other dance styles but for ballet lovers is as good as it gets, they used to be in Bethesda and since they moved to Silver Spring they have grown tremendously the studios are large with high ceilings and the teachers are highly experiences, I noticed they are all deferent but they all have principals in common. I also like that they actually have advanced classes for dancers so you can take class with professional dancers and be inspired by them and/or learn from them. read more
