I was aiming for the beginner class, although they assessed my level and suggested I was more at the intermediate level, so I went with that. Teachers were polite, welcoming and encouraging! They demonstrated the steps, we practiced, they made slight suggestions and answered questions to make sure we were grasping the material. What I really appreciated is that they did not over explain steps. We covered a lot of material in a class session and it was really straight forward. Then open rueda and social after the class. I am still somewhere between beginner and intermediate, so the open ruedas are still a bit overwhelming, but in time I will feel more comfortable! Highly recommend!

I've been taking adult open classes here for about a year and find that most evening and weekend classes tend to be crowded, so try a weekday daytime class if you can. There's street parking on Wisconsin Ave and side streets or discounted parking in the Giant Foods garage (remember to get your parking validation from the receptionist). While the faculty each have their own styles, all the ones I've taken from are top-notch instructors who were former (or are currently) professional ballet company dancers. I think I've finally figured out the five levels for adult classes, which are not as they're labeled, IMO: - Beginning 1. For dancers in their first couple years of ballet study, or who are rehabbing after not dancing for 1+ years. The teacher will explain ballet terminology. - Beginning 2. Not actually for beginners. Full barre and center combinations. - Advanced beginning. If tombe-pas de bourree-glissade-saut de chat is in your muscle memory. - Intermediate I. Dancers are doing double-plus pirouettes. Petite allegro can have jumps with beats. Combos are more intricate, challenging... and FUN! - Intermediate II. You'll see some dancers en pointe, and pros occasionally drop in. The class moves fast, where the teacher doesn't even have to fully demonstrate the combo yet everyone knows what they're doing. Fouette turns. If you're on the fence about which level to attend, I recommend trying the safer/lower level first, then moving up as you become comfortable. Overall, TWSB is a wonderful place to take ballet class in the DMV area!

I'll repeat, it was my fiance, father, and I. Two men and a woman. One of whom is the father of the woman. All of them ballroom dancing! Together. Awkwardness? Methinks inevitable. 2. How do I put this...I am uncoordinated. Not, like, oh-that's-cute-she-occasionally-stumbles-uncoordinated. Like, back-in-high-school-all-my-dance-teachers-talked-to-me-in-very-simple-sentences-because-they-assumed-I-was-intellectually-handicapped uncoordinated. Or like, as-I-type-this, one-of-my-thumbnails-is-bright-red-and-a-toenail-is-black-because-I-am-constantly-mashing-myself-into-things uncoordinated. 3. So are my father and fiance. ...Imagine my radiant thrill, therefore, to report that all 3 of us successfully learned to foxtrot and rumba last night. Our teacher, Sarah, couldn't have been nicer or more funny. The staff was friendly and engaging. The studios were big and clean. Arthur Murray is an international franchise, meaning that there are some corporate-mandated policies that might rub guests the wrong way. Alarm bells enforce strict limits on 45-minute lessons, and I can tell that there's some pressure on employees to sell dance lesson packages. However, I can't begrudge the individuals who worked with us these quirks, since they're clearly beyond their control. Anyone who can teach me to dance in 90 minutes - after 27 years of total ineptitude - is a hero.

I was so excited to get back to Belly Dancing and was having a great time till I hurt myself…read more Unfortunately they have a no refund or transfer policy. After multiple emails with the owner and office manager where the answer was no; they finally offered a credit toward a more expensive longer session of the same class - meaning I'd have to pay them an additional $135. After having spent $320 and having only attended 4 classes that offer was offensive. After a few more emails they agreed to put $160 (8 classes) toward another class in the next session. OK, if that was all they would do I would have to accept. I was extremely disappointed that they refused a refund. You see, I had just purchased the new 8 class pack 2 days before I hurt my back. I never used even one class on that pack. It would have been super easy to refund the money as an example of customer care and value, but that never happened. The space is lovely but the customer service is single minded in favor of their bottom line. I'm better now but am still so angry that I can't bring myself to step foot in there. For $320 I could have done so much more elsewhere - ugh! Had the refund been granted, I would've felt that my continued patronage was valued. Knowing otherwise, I'll never sign up for a class again or recommend anyone to them.
