Mama Sylvia is so funny, and knowledgeable. When introducing each dance, she gives the history behind it. Fast forward to 2023, I'm a 34-year-old 240lb MAN, and I decided to tap back into myself by spontaneously enrolling into a drop-in ballet class on a random cold Tuesday night, and I'm glad i did! The venue is clean and the staff is friendly and inclusive. The instructor, Rachel, was great. The class was packed and for all levels, but Rachel created an environment that made me feel comfortable and took all my nervousness (and low key embarrassment) away. i enjoyed it so much that i took my (clearly out of shape) behind to her Modern Dance class immediately after. And I paid for it... i was sore for days. It felt GREAT! :) Although both classes were for All Levels, I would've appreciated if the instructor showed movements full out instead of marking the steps and throwing us newbies to the wolves. Also I would love for Joy of Motion in general to host more adult beginning-level ballet classes or a flexibility, conditioning, and strengthening class using ballet techniques. Joy of Motion is a beautiful venue conveniently located in the up-and-coming H Street corridor. Overall, I had an amazing first-time experience and i will certainly return.

The choreography was just challenging enough to give me a sense of accomplishment at the end of the day, but still have something to work on at home. I was lucky to be able to take Afro Jazz that day because the class had been cancelled online (I just saw it listed on the paper schedule and decided to drop in). Fortunately, two other ladies missed the memo as well, and we ended up having a wonderful class experience. I had to ding the studio a star both because it was freezing cold in the studio and because it smelled awful when I entered. I understand that many classes share these spaces, but a hit of Febreeze air freshener before and after classes would work wonders!

The teacher only taught to get "favorite"3 kids in class and didn't even bother to look at anyone else. I spoke to the director regarding this and she told me that yes, many other parents were complaining about this teacher and that she would talk to her and make sure it stopped but didn't. The teacher, Frominich, continued to only teach to a few kids ignoring everyone else. Terrible awful program. Don't waste your money. In the end the director of the school apologized and said they wouldn't hire this teacher again, little help that was to my daughter and the others.

But she stared for a few more beats from behind the glass, our faces a two feet apart, looked me up and down, and then reluctantly opened the door and said "YOU are looking for the hardware store. It's 'OVER THERE' ..... there's a *SIGN*" and in a passive aggressive tone that was really unnecessary gestured toward a big sign on the door that directed people looking for Ace Hardware to go nextdoor. I said "nope, I'm actually looking to learn about Pilates," but it was such a turn off that I turned and left. I assure you, lady, I can read the sign. And your judgments about who you think and perceive to be a potential customer was very disrespectful. It says a lot about the biases and prejudices you don't mask very well. Good luck!

It can feel like a real leap of faith to do something so personal and important in such an unconventional way, and to put your trust in a stranger and in your own ability to learn something you have never even considered before--but I am so glad I took it. I have an experience I will remember for the rest of my life, my fiancée (she said yes of course!) has a beautiful, truly one-of-a-kind heirloom she adores and values beyond measure, and we have a story we will tell over and over again. She is already getting questions about where I found her ring, and her friends are already gushing about how amazed they are I made it. Honestly, I am amazed too. I wasn't sure I could make a ring that looked better than a beginner's craft project!--but that was before I met Dan. I had a personal design idea that not only do they not sell in stores, they don't even really sell jade cut how I needed. As far as I can tell, no one had done this before. Well, now someone has, it turned out incredible, and it's all because Dan made it possible. He went above and so far beyond. As a craftsman he is not just skilled, but meticulous, and determined to make sure every product he works on meets his high standard of excellence. As a teacher he is patient, knowledgeable, and eager to share and show what he knows--which is a lot.  And to top it all off, he is a real man of his word--exactly the kind of person you want to put your trust in when dealing with precious metals, stones, and memories. In short, they don't 'em like Dan anymore--that goes for his character, and his jewelry. I wanted to get a broken clasp fixed on an old silver bracelet. So I reached out to Daniel to find…read moreout if he did that kind of work. He wrote back, "probably" and told me to bring it by that weekend and he'd have a look. I told him I would come Saturday and he wrote that he might have to go the DMV at some point, but that he should be around. I came by Saturday and he was not there, so I left the piece with a young woman who admired the bracelet and tagged it to give it to him and took my phone number and email. When I had heard nothing by Wednesday, I called and Daniel somewhat impatiently said that "I haven't even looked at it," but that he would. I waited another three days and called a week from when I had originally dropped it off, only to have Daniel say that he "hadn't even looked at it" and I told him I would just come over to take it back. I came and he dumped the bracelet in my hand, again saying, "I haven't looked at it." When I reminded him that he had said Wednesday that he would look at it, he barked "What do you want from me!!!!!"
