Chevy Chase Ballroom sparkles as the gem of ballroom dancing. CCB, as it is known, exemplifies ballroom dancing instruction par excellence. You will not get a better dance teacher in the DC metropolitan area. Irina Sarukhanyan, the owner of Chevy Chase Ballroom, carefully selects each talented dance instructor to form a winning team for you to excel in ballroom dancing. Furthermore, Irina, the teachers, and the staff make CCB a home away from home by creating a welcoming environment of social events that are fun and lively! The studio is also beautiful and inviting, making it an exceptional dancing experience! As I have been a member with Chevy Chase Ballroom for over two years, I enjoyed learning a plethora of ballroom dances, everything from Foxtrot to Rumba and everything in between. My dance instructor and competitive pro/am partner is Dmytro Churchun, who is a magnificent professional ballroom dancer in his own right, possesses a passion for teaching ballroom dancing which is unparalleled. His devotion to his students can be seen through his strong meticulous attention to technical detail. He is clear and descriptive in explaining improvements and patient with your executions. Moreover, through his magnetic personality and his love for dance--Dimitri makes the learning experience, whether it is teaching the fundamentals to a newcomer or instructing styling to an accomplished dancer--effortless, exciting, and fun. And, to seal the deal, Dmytro, whose newly acquired third language, English, possesses fierce humor and wit. Dmytro is the consummate professional with a cheerful twist. He is simply the best. Joining Chevy Chase Ballroom has been one of the best things I have ever done. I am confident in any social dancing situation; so much so that to my amazement, I now compete in dancesport competitions. Most importantly, I don't have two left feet anymore! If I can learn, anyone can learn. Being a member of CCB family made all the difference! th

We just had a blast every single lesson. He gave us options for steps and helped us build a dance we were comfortable with, was interesting, and totally customized to our song. He helped us get so comfortable with the steps and, as we got better, gave us tips to improve even more and flourishes to make the dance a bit more engaging for the audience. Having been a part of many weddings, he's full of helpful tips in general for the wedding, like how to walk on and off after the dance, where my husband should go when we transition to father/daughter dance, and to remember to smile especially during the finale. It definitely shows that he has worked with a lot of couples with their wedding dances, but also has officiated weddings himself, so he has so much helpful knowledge! We had so much fun with Michael and wholeheartedly recommend!

Neither of us have any experience with dancing and were basically planning to do the middle school sway before my husband surprised me with these lessons. Michael was fantastic! He was friendly and easy to schedule with and was always there when we arrived. He was very encouraging - helping us to learn dance moves in small segments so we weren't overwhelmed. He would even record us on our phone so we could practice at home. Very reasonable prices as well. Highly recommend!

I'll repeat, it was my fiance, father, and I. Two men and a woman. One of whom is the father of the woman. All of them ballroom dancing! Together. Awkwardness? Methinks inevitable. 2. How do I put this...I am uncoordinated. Not, like, oh-that's-cute-she-occasionally-stumbles-uncoordinated. Like, back-in-high-school-all-my-dance-teachers-talked-to-me-in-very-simple-sentences-because-they-assumed-I-was-intellectually-handicapped uncoordinated. Or like, as-I-type-this, one-of-my-thumbnails-is-bright-red-and-a-toenail-is-black-because-I-am-constantly-mashing-myself-into-things uncoordinated. 3. So are my father and fiance. ...Imagine my radiant thrill, therefore, to report that all 3 of us successfully learned to foxtrot and rumba last night. Our teacher, Sarah, couldn't have been nicer or more funny. The staff was friendly and engaging. The studios were big and clean. Arthur Murray is an international franchise, meaning that there are some corporate-mandated policies that might rub guests the wrong way. Alarm bells enforce strict limits on 45-minute lessons, and I can tell that there's some pressure on employees to sell dance lesson packages. However, I can't begrudge the individuals who worked with us these quirks, since they're clearly beyond their control. Anyone who can teach me to dance in 90 minutes - after 27 years of total ineptitude - is a hero.

I've been taking adult open classes here for about a year and find that most evening and weekend classes tend to be crowded, so try a weekday daytime class if you can. There's street parking on Wisconsin Ave and side streets or discounted parking in the Giant Foods garage (remember to get your parking validation from the receptionist). While the faculty each have their own styles, all the ones I've taken from are top-notch instructors who were former (or are currently) professional ballet company dancers. I think I've finally figured out the five levels for adult classes, which are not as they're labeled, IMO: - Beginning 1. For dancers in their first couple years of ballet study, or who are rehabbing after not dancing for 1+ years. The teacher will explain ballet terminology. - Beginning 2. Not actually for beginners. Full barre and center combinations. - Advanced beginning. If tombe-pas de bourree-glissade-saut de chat is in your muscle memory. - Intermediate I. Dancers are doing double-plus pirouettes. Petite allegro can have jumps with beats. Combos are more intricate, challenging... and FUN! - Intermediate II. You'll see some dancers en pointe, and pros occasionally drop in. The class moves fast, where the teacher doesn't even have to fully demonstrate the combo yet everyone knows what they're doing. Fouette turns. If you're on the fence about which level to attend, I recommend trying the safer/lower level first, then moving up as you become comfortable. Overall, TWSB is a wonderful place to take ballet class in the DMV area!
