This is my first yelp review ever and i am writing it at 10 at night after a long day because I think it is THAT important that everyone know how amazing this dance institute is!!! After hearing of the institute threw several friends whose children attend, I decided to try a week of summer camp for my 6 year old which concluded in a showcase performance. I was absolutely impressed and more so appreciative to have finally found a dance home for my 3 kids! In the last 2 years we have enrolled in at least 4 of the local dance companies looking for a company within which my children can grown and develop REAL skills...not just jumping around for fun. PMDI proves to cultivate talent and drive as well as discipline and skill in a really fun and loving environment. The counselors are not only talented but genuinely care about the kids. I was pleased to find them all calling my daughter by name even though many did not instruct her age group. I have wanted and have now found a community where my kid feel like she is joining a family. It's a place where I know I will get an honest report of behavior as well as progress and talent. They teach discipline and life skills and Dance skills coupled with a love for the arts. its just great. And the test of any dance company, in my opinion, is how the oldest students carry themselves and the level of dance skill they exhibit. The oldest students (12-18) in the showcase demonstrated great command of isolations, choreography, strength and poise leaving me confident that my kids will graduate the company as dancers with audition and presentation and choreography skills not just dance skills. Princess Mhoon Dance Institute is one of the best experiences of my daughter's life! It was definitely worth the trip to leave the comfy confines of our Southeast DC home each weekend for the class and the fun. My daughter really enjoyed the dance lessons and the family atmosphere that exists there. I loved the big performance at the end of the season... of course I have the disc. Also, it's worth mentioning that Princess Mhoon is not only highly personable, but is also quite the professional and an incredible instructor. It's more than worth the money - with her extensive background, it's a steal! My younger daughter is next! read more

Kamp Kenetic (At Princess Mhoon). When we dropped off our daughter for day 1, the instructor asked whether we would be able to send her to Silver Spring later in the week. At the end of day 1 we were told that the rest of the week would be someplace else - at their studio in Silver Spring. Found the place, the actual Kamp Kinetic adult nowhere in sight. Told that they're in a meeting until 9:30. Guess what, the start time is supposed to be 9:00. Day 1 - no dancing. Ok, Day 2. Without the location bait and switch this may be 3 stars. read more

Another year, another great dance season! If your child is interested in dance, and you haven't already done so, you owe it to yourself and your child to register for classes at Princess Mhoon Dance Institute. Each year the classes get better and better and the opportunities for young dancers become richer. The dance curriculum is very diverse and the professionally trained staff carefully fosters the development of each child on an individual basis. This year, students were offered the opportunity to participate in their very first dance competition. With the assistance of PMDI staff and the commitment from the dancers who participated, they managed to capture gold medals for their performances. These accomplishments speak volumes for the training dancers receive at PMDI. Still not convinced that PMDI is right for your child? There are scheduled free drop in classes for newbies as well as the upcoming dance recital in June 2017, both of which will give you an idea of class offerings. Finally I'll close with, I'm extremely happy I chose PMDI as a place of dance for my daughter. It's more than a dance studio. It's a place where Princess Mhoon and her staff treat parents and kids as family!! read more

We have been a part of the PMDI family for two years. My daughter has grown tremendously as a dancer and has enjoyed learning from the talented instructors. The best thing about PMDI is definitely the spring show! It is a must-see event. I definitely recommend this dance program! read more

AWFUL! Worse experience ever! They moved locations, and it was no longer convenient for us to attend classes. The session hadn't even started yet, and I called and emailed within the required notice to get a refund. That was back in January 2019. Here is is March and nothing. They have promised us multiple times a refund is is on it's way, but nothing. $340 out of pocket. I am extremely disgusted with the owner, and very disappointed. Do not sign up for classes. Horribly disorganized, and just plain sad. read more

This is a highly disorganized enterprise and possibly worse. They canceled a class, failed to notify us, and then failed to refund the $320 we paid for many months despite many calls and emails. It's sad. read more

The summer dance camp was a great way for my daughter to get a taste of each style of dance. She discovered which style of dance she enjoys the most. During the week long camp she misplaced her shoes and after 3 days of looking, they were willing to give her a pair from their rental selection. read more

Princess Mhoon has a nasty attitude. I've seen her roll her eyes and make faces of disapproval behind students back when they are dancing. Very unprofessional. I would not recommend this studio. read more

My experience with ms. mhoon was less than pleasant. she had a real attitude, was snarky and condescending. unfortunately, i did not enjoy her company at all. read more

My two year old takes drumming classes with Kankouran here. He loves it! I love the culture of Afrocentrism, the great studio space, and the kid-friendly environment. read more

My daughter loves being a part of the PMDI culture and family. Her dance instructors, including Princess Mhoon, are thoughtful, knowledgable, encouraging, and create a nice balance between high expectations and having fun. She has made many friends in her classes and I have as well, among the parents and the staff. When I have questions or need clarity about something, a staff member is always available to answer my questions. My daughter has grown so much as a dancer and she's so happy at PMDI! We are so happy with PMDI! read more

What can I say, we love PMDI! My daughter has been taking classes here for the last 5 years and has really grown asa dancer. What started out as a Saturday hip hop activity has grown into 3 days a week, full repertoire of dance types from hip hop to ballet and everything in between. My daughter has truly enjoyed her teachers, making great friends and growing as a dancer. She has even decided to attend a performing arts school and I believe it's because of the confidence she has acquired from her years with Princess and her team. If you're looking for a dance school to expose your child to dance or a school to help support and already established dancer, then PMDI is the place for you. They even offer Zumba for adults. PDMI is amazing! We left a studio last year and now make the drive into Silver Spring because of the awesome instructors and program. Our little one had her ballet recital last weekend and it was wonderful! First class.. PDMI has great parent communications, friendly staff, and very structured classes that are still a lot of fun for a toddler. She's having a ball. My daughter can't wait for ballet summer camp!!! read more

My daughter has been taking dance at PDMI for three years and she LOVES it! Princess has high standards for her instructors. Students learn technique and professionalism. My daughter has become more disciplined in other aspects of her life as well due to her taking dance. Also, the June concert is AMAZING! The choreography is awesome! My daughter took dance lessons at a different studio prior to PDMI and she was able to explain that she learned more at PDMI. I've taken adult ASA! workout dance classes there and I enjoyed them. My daughter has been a part of the PMDI since it opened. My daughter, who is now 8, absolutely loves PMDI. She has grown so much as a dancer especially since she joined the PMDI Dance Ensemble Troop last year. She loves the challenge and adores her dance instructors. As a parent I'm not a fan of the sometimes hectic schedules and rehearsal practices, but I love my daughter's passion for dance, her sense of confidence, and the great sisterhood and friendship she shares with her dance mates. And the spring show is phenomenal! I have not seen one in the DMV area that compares to this show. I highly recommend this program! read more

my son was 1 of 2 boys in a performance. inside of being allowed to watch the other performers he was stuck in a back room while girls were changing and told to cover his eyes for 1-1/2 hours. he enjoyed his classes but the treatment of kids before and during an actual performance was just horrible. read more
