We had my daughter's 4th birthday here and there were so many things that went wrong. They did not have designated people for the birthday party- it was very chaotic, no announcements were made for pics or coming to eat pizza and cake. The staff especially one male employee had a bad attitude, slammed doors, and was extremely rude to us and our guests. Terrible customer service when we complained to the front desk of all that was going wrong. They tried to over charge us by $100+. Very inattentive staff and failed to monitor kids for safety. They were also late putting up the moon bounce. I would NOT recommend having a birthday here. Tried asking for management contact and was denied. Truly disappointing experience. read more

This place prioritizes profit over quality. The building facilities are inadequate for the number of children they accommodate, with only one toilet and one changing room, both of which are consistently dirty. They are also ill-equipped to handle accidents. When a friend of my daughter had a minor accident in class, they requested an ice pack but were told none was available. I am concerned about how they manage other incidents. The classes are overcrowded, making it impossible to receive regular feedback on the children's progress. The only advice from the managers was to speak with the teacher for five minutes before or after class, which proved impractical due to the fast turnover and large number of kids in and out of classes during these very short occasions. My emails requesting feedback went unanswered. My child repeated the same class for a year, and no one was available to discuss the process of advancing levels or whether continuing was beneficial. Although my kids enjoyed the place, it was clear they were not learning anything and were merely jumping around with friends. read more

Would not recommended Kids Night Out. Signed my daughter up only to be told when I showed up that it was cancelled as she was the only child enrolled. I was given no warning that this was a possibility so this was an extreme inconvenience and very disappointing for my child. We're grateful that Silver Stars exists and is so close to our home, however it's been a mixed experience. Both of our toddlers have been attending Silver Stars, in different age groups, for most of the last year. Pros/Cons below. Pros: - Large space - Ability to serve all age groups - Lots of class time options, year-round - Many different activities in single session - Flexibility to swap scheduled time for another time, if you call in advance - Ability to arrive late / leave early Cons: - Instructor quality has been mediocre, with one exception - Safety isn't prioritized (Once, our son ran down the stairs and out to the waiting area to find me, without either of his two teachers noticing. It took three minutes of his running around crying, trying to find me before I noticed. His coaches had no idea until I walked him back!). Also, the instructors do almost no hands on instruction or spotting, so the kids fall a lot. - School year sessions seem more well-run, but the summer has been a bit of a free for all. At some sessions, my 3 year old has had 11 kids in his class, and it's been a mess! During the school year, the after-school classes have has 4-7 kids, which is better. - Summer session "coaches" don't seem to know what they're doing (they appear to be high school aged), and the coaches vary from week to week. The more seasoned, better coaches seem to be working with the older kids. We will probably continue, despite the cons, because the next closest gymnastics option for kids under 5 is 25 minutes drive from our house. My kids enjoy it But, given the safety concerns, I always attend the classes with each of my children-- there is simply not enough adult supervision. read more

It's good for birthday parties but for actual camps I did not like it the coach I was assigned to ( her name was Kim) did not have any experience teaching me at all. for this reason on Friday I moved to a coach who was more experienced (his name was shrew) I can't believe that they put kids in classes based on their age group not their skills. While my kids haven't taken and classes at Silver Stars, we have been here many, many times for birthday parties and the daily Open Gym playtime. The Open Gym is a GREAT deal if you buy a 10-pass as it works out to $7/kid per visit and the passes never expire. This is our go-to activity for rainy summer days or when school is out for a day and my older kids need to burn off some energy. In particular, they love the rope swing and the trampolines. Like other reviewers have noted, a huge drawback is the veritable toy store in the lobby. I've just always told my girls that they can look but we will not be buying anything there as we visit to play, not shop. So far we haven't had any issues but it is a big distraction. read more

For an employee (Dillon, phonetically-spelled) to yell and insult my six-year old child, in the presence of the parents, should not be employed at any family/children based establishment. This is a during-covid review, but I think we'll be "in-covid" for some time. Our kids were in the 5-6 yr old Comets class and the 3-4 try old Twinkling Stars. I don't think we'll come back for a few reasons. The on-mat staff seems completely overwhelmed. They cannot pay attention to what the kids are doing because they're pulled in too many directions. One time our 3 year old was laying down behind one of the mats chillin for a good 5 mins before anyone noticed. The staff would tell the 5 yr old to "do a cartwheel" or "do a backbend" with zero demonstrations. The kids had no clue what they were even asking, and what's worse is when that was apparent they didn't have the follow through to help. They put the 5 year olds up on the parallel bars and uneven bars with no spotter and no one even watching. It didn't seem like the poor kids knew what to do or where to go either. I totally understand that they may be understaffed, but way too much cringe for me so I'll give it time before re-enrolling (if I do end up re-enrolling). Added star because kids seemed to have fun, but they can flip around with no instructions at the playground for free! read more

My kids love Silver Stars Gymnastics. They have participated in Open Gym, gymnastics classes, and had birthday parties at this location and it was always a great experience. The owner is dedicated to providing a safe and fun environment for kids of all ages. The lobby has tv's trained on the various locations throughout the gym so parents can watch thier kids at any time. If you want something for your kids that does not involve a computer or phone or tablet, try Silver Stars out. My kids are better for going to Silver Stars Gymnastics in Silver Spring. read more

The instruction was enough that all the kids were engaged and having fun with a structured activity but also allowed for them to be silly with their friends. We LOVE this gym! My 3-year-old started here after having done a more casual gymnastics class through PowerTots. We liked them but the value of a class Silver Stars is incredible. At each organization's classes he's had to wait his turn, but at Silver Stars he's moving and active way more than he was at PowerTots. This is a great way to actually build his skills and get him some exercise. The gym is huge with tons of varied equipment in great shape. The little kids have a smaller (yet still large) room off the main gym with age- and size-appropriate equipment arranged into fun routines, including one that changes each time (and usually involves a supervised somersault and independent handstand against a giant vertical mat). To compare, we've also been to the PG Sports & Learning Complex Gym, which maybe has a better layout for visibility, but I think Silver Stars has more equipment, particularly for the little kids. So far I've liked all the coaches but especially LOVE Coaches Lily, Lisa, Norma. My son is shy and it helps a ton that he has bonded specifically with these three. He always asks about them and seeks them out. They in return have been caring, patient, and kind while challenging him on the mat. I especially like that Coach Lisa created a small group of all boys, whom she effortlessly manages like a total pro. (Other coaches have caught on to his shyness and help him acclimate, I really appreciate that.) This gym is a MACHINE. They have a ton of classes with a ton of time slots that they run like clockwork. They definitely know what they're doing. Be aware that the entrance and waiting area, aside from being very crowded, is a quite nice toy store. As in, it is an actual store. Clever. Very clever. We've spent some money here that we probably shouldn't and otherwise wouldn't have. My son is now registered for his third session at Silver Stars and I hope he'll never stop. read more

My 3 year old doesn't even want to go to his class because he just wants to look at and play with the darn toys. This place is super crowded and chaotic, filled with stressed out parents who are either giving in to their kids lobbying for toys or junky snacks or trying to contain the tantrums from those who are not as successful. My kid is in her fourth session of gymnastics. I'm grateful that Silver Stars exists, and the kiddo always reports back happily after her class. She gets exercise, and she's happy - definitely two very important positive things. So maybe I should give more stars, but... I have some issues with the waiting room - the smell and chaos are enough to make any waiting parent wish to be almost anywhere else. The number of people they move thru the gym on a Saturday morning is simply amazing. And I sometimes wonder what the kiddo is actually learning. After many months (and many hundreds of dollars), I've never had a teacher say a thing to me about the kiddo - about what she does well, about what she's working on, about how hard she tries or anything else. I'm not expecting Mary Lou Retton in six months, but I wish there was a little more personalized attention and structure rather than the assembly-line feel of Silver Stars. read more

We signed up at Silver Springs first based on Yelp reviews but then switched over to Bowie's due to the convenience of it being closer to work and home. It was a HUGE difference between Silver Spring and Bowie. the one at silver spring is PACKED and is always full. I barely had any room in the parent's area and it was super uncomfortable but the teachers and staff at silver springs are AMAZING and has been working there for a long time. I didn't like that they only have ONE bathroom... remember, it's SUPER PACKED and my child was potty training at the time.. we had to wait and wait and wait for a kid in there to CHANGE her clothes.. and of course, my child went in her pants.... i noticed that it happened to the other kids in her group (b/c they're potty training). it doesn't help that there are only ONE bathroom in the wait area. their parking lot is BIG but they're FULL at peak times, it's crazy... go to bowie if it's convenience for you read more

Tomorrow is Soccerballgirl's 5th birthday, and today we had her birthday party here with 15 of her little pals from pre-school and the 'hood. This place is tremendous for three important reasons: 1. Lots of jumping, swinging, bouncing, racing, grabbing, running, skipping things for the kids to play with. 2. The staff are fantastic and have high levels of energy, engagement and entertainment for the kids. 3. I'ts the business model baby. Look at these numbers - 8 parties a day on the weekend brings them in about $25K per month, assume the weekly classes they have from 9 am to 9pm Monday through Friday bring in the same amount. Costs cannot be more than $5K rent, $5K insurance and other bills, labor can't be more than $10K a month , throw in an addtional $10K to cover equipment leases and miscellaneous and this place throws off an astonishing $20K a month to its happy owner sitting in a pub somewhere watching the European Champions League. So, I admit, it's a little bit crass to dissect the business model in a review, especially after such a fine experience, but I do it with respect. and admiration. Back to Soccerballgirl. She had a ball. All her pals turned up and they had a brilliant time. The day did not start so auspiciously for us. I dropped Thing 1 and Thing 2 off at Sunday school and then repaired to the Post and a fine breakfast of crepes alfresco with my two best girls. I told Soccerballgirl that I was so excited she was gonna go to Church with me later that morning - "it is my favorite thing" I said. " Well, it's not my favorite thing" she said. Ouch. It might be an uphill task turning this strong willed personality into a willing servant of the dogmatic traditionalism and last bastion of male hegemony that is the Catholic Church. Thinking it's 10.00 we get in the car for the half a mile jaunt down the street. Get in to Church. Strange. Everyone is here already. Everyone is looking at me. Smiling. Oh shit. The clock went forward didn't it. Damn you Domaine de Canton and your compelling ability to make an impeccable cocktail with both gin and vodka. Church is over. Oh shit. They cancel on a cold day without warning, while for that same day advertised and ran a camp to capitalize on the school closure. Would not offer a refund for the class they cancelled. It's an assembly-line anonymous series of classes, one after the next, day after day. The teachers have no idea who the kids are and don't really teach them anything -- just tell them to do stuff and if they can, they can. I keep looking for a real gymnastics class in the area, with real instruction for a child who's not a natural gymnast and who's like someone to have a clue who she is. But I can't find it. read more

My 4 year old has been going for about 6 months and loves it. Seems like they always keep them active and do lots of fun activities. I've also been there for 2 different parties (both 4 year old parties), and they were awesome. The kids ran around like crazy not knowing what do to next (I mean that in a good way as there was so much for them to do). My only slightly complaint is b/c they sell a ton of stuff that takes up a lot of room, it gets very crowded in the parent waiting area during class and can't really watch the kids in class. Coach Deanna challenges and gives individual attention to each gymnast in her class. She is very professional. On the other hand, last week one of the managers by the name of Ms. Debbie showed a level of unprofessionalism that was inappropriate. As I was watching my child practice, I suddenly hear Ms. Debbie screaming at a woman. Everyone turns to look at her to see why she would think it was okay to start yelling at a customer in front of all of these children and parents. This may be our last session with Silver Star Silver Spring. Because if one of the managers thinks that is okay then I can only imagine how the other staff may react in uncomfortable situations. Please consider some diversity training and other professional development to help reflect and correct your recent outburst. Best wishes with that. read more

My kids love it here but I have to say, sitting in the lobby at times is cringe-worthy. One of the managers by the name of Debbie has a tendency to get in very loud spats with the staff for everyone in the lobby to hear, and it's rather unprofessional. This has happened on multiple occasions. I commented about it to my child's coach and her response was that she's a manager and unfortunately that's just how she is. I had a hard time deciding between 2 or three stars finally went with three since they did do a good job of cleaning up after the kids and giving them drink breaks. Our children visited the gym for many classes and events over the last 5 years. I was disappointed the gym did not take any action in May 2017 to improve the way they safeguard children. The gym only took defensive action once the incident occurred and was not proactive in doing more once the incident occurred. They should have worked with a third party expert to assess how their gym could be made safer and implement more safeguards once an incident occurred. Just had my daughter's 5 year old birthday party here and I could not have been happier. Ava led activities in the gym for 20 4&5 year olds and it was seamless. All we had to do was show up with cake (ordered pizza through them). It was honestly the easiest and most well-run kid's birthday party that we have been to in a long time and they kids loved it. I was disgusted that they have kids merchandise for sale - basically a side toy store! Glad i was only there as a party guest, because if i had to endure weekly asking for toys...forget it. I thought the person who led the party was overly strict and used an unnecessarily harsh tone. I didn't ask for myself, but the hostess informed me that she wasn't allowed to bring in a home made cake, it had to be store purchased. I'm not sure how that would work for a family who's child has allergies or dietary needs that cannot be met safely from a store. Also, a child asked for a 2nd piece of cake from the hostess, who directed her to go ahead and get one from the staff person. the child went to the staff who told her no, she couldn't have 2nds. overall, i'd never set foot in that place again, and i'd advise anyone else against doing so as well. there are plenty of other gymnastics facilities available that don't have a toy store, have staff who actively seem like they want to be there and engage well with the children, and where the hosts of parties have some control over what type of cake and how many pieces each child can have. read more

I signed up for one pre-K class for Sept./Oct. I had really high expectations for this place, but boy, was I disappointed. This place is like a factory -- all they care about it filling up their classes with as many kids as possible with "instructors" who are clearly not gymnasts but more like babysitters who help kids go through the obstacle courses. My daughter does have fun jumping around on the trampoline and walking across the balance beam, but I did this stuff with her at The Little Gym, and I was expecting a little more from Silver Stars. There is no individualized attention for the kids, parents are packed like sardines in the waiting rooms, it's just chaos. I will not be returning for the next session. read more
