Ms. Melissa and Ms. Hanna are amazing leaders who listen and pivot when needed. They really listen; the moral compass of the school is the child. Their communication has been excellent and they take great care of our son. We particularly like the SproutAbout app which provides regular activity updates on everything from bottle feeding to activities which makes us feel like we are involved even while away and provides a sense of security in understanding what transpires during the day. The parents at this school are some of the nicest people and it feels like a little community. This is a co-op school, so each family must send a representative to volunteer approx once per month in class, as well as attend monthly meetings, help quarterly with cleaning the school, and other miscellaneous duties. It is not an overwhelming commitment but it helps for parents to have flexibility with their jobs to allow them to fit in everything. You cannot bring a younger sibling with you when you co-op. My understanding is that children may attend even if they aren't fully potty trained. I am also planning to send my 2 year old to LNS next year. Overall, it has been a positive (and affordable!) preschool experience so far.

When my son started there were other moms who had already sent 2 or 3 kids through the program, so on my first volunteer days they would show me the ropes and answer questions. Over the next two years, my son and I both made so many wonderful friends through the co-op. My 5 year old just "graduated" and it was pretty incredible to see how many moms were tearful at the graduation, not just because their babies were growing up but because their time at the co-op was over. The instruction is engaging, play-based and developmentally appropriate. There were many special activities like sports day, pajama day, field trips, teddy bear picnic, etc. They also offer two summer camps after the end of the school year for fantastic prices. They don't spend tons of money on advertising and have existed for the last 30 some years by word of mouth. We've had a fantastic experience so far and I can't wait to send my younger kids!

Sure, I may be able to get a little cheaper if I have my kids go to a home daycare, but the care that they get here is why I love it. They have cameras in the class so I can always check in on my little ones whenever I want and they give multiple updates a day via the daycare's app so I never feel like I'm missing much. The teachers treat my kids like their own and I truly feel like they love them. If I voice any discomfort or worry, they work with me immediately. You can tell the Director truly has a passion for this job and the kids, and she schedules fun times each season and most holidays to really make you feel like this is more than just a daycare. I watched the live stream in his classroom (toddler) ~2hrs a day and had seen 2 times a teacher caught my son's arms and forced him to sit still no matter how hard he was fighting. After got home on these 2 days, the scratches on his arms were obvious... He was only 1.5 years old and not able to tell us what's happened. We had reported to school the next day and the teacher didn't tell the truth until we told we were watching. We had reported to their district manager and child service in government. But the teacher who hurt him was still working there before we changed school. Actually not only my son, his little friends had suffered similar experiences that I saw. That teacher disciplined kids almost everyday! I doubt her profession, because kids were reading books alone just before discipline. My son was very quite at this school and he became verbal 1 month after he got into a new place. We're so grateful to our decision!

Obviously every…read moreparent has their own list of "wants" and "needs" when shopping preschools - their own list of the features that are most important to them. Most importantly for my wife and I was to find a school where our 2-1/2 year-old would be happy, learn social skills, and would learn the fundamental skills needed to function in a classroom setting (preparation for kindergarten). It was also critical that we find a place where we would never feel guilty or apprehensive about dropping our kids off at school. We found all this and more at Hilltop. The most important things to note about Hilltop are... Small School - There are two classrooms and each one has a max of roughly 15 children. Small classes means lots of one-on-one interaction with the teachers, which any educator will tell you is extremely beneficial (especially for young children). Learning Activities - It is a school after all - so it's pretty important that they follow a really well-conceived philosophy and educational curriculum. Every day we receive notes from the teacher about what our child learned that day, sample assignments he worked on, etc. Low Staff Turnover - At other schools and daycares we've witnessed a constant churn of teacher turnover. The teachers at Hilltop have been there for years and are part of the fabric of the school. Family Atmosphere - So many families have their 2nd or 3rd children enrolled, so we've gotten to know each other and have formed great friendships. When I drop my son at Hilltop it feels like I'm leaving him with close friends/family. Credentials - Hilltop is accredited by the MD Board of Education and each teacher and staff member has all their MD creds (I'm not that familiar with all the credentials, so you'd have to check with them for more info on this). Secluded Location - While the school is right off Rt 108 in Clarksville (near the River Hill shopping center) it's also tucked away behind a Methodist church. Its location is nice for security reasons - and there's also something nice about being on a church campus. What more can I say? We are a Hilltop family and absolutely recommend this preschool to anyone trying to make the difficult decision of where to send your child for preschool.
