My daughter started in the summer of 2025, and we've had a great experience ever since. The facility feels bright, welcoming, and spacious the moment you walk in. The hallways are always nicely decorated, and the classrooms are clean and inviting with colorful children's artwork. Thoroughly impress with the curriculum. We moved to the area a couple years ago and were on the wait list for about a year; looking back I'm glad we enrolled once a spot opened it. This was the structure my son needed, especially as we prepare him for kindergarten. They go over a litany of material to build on my son's understanding of letters, numbers, word parts, etc. I wasn't sure how my son would do with having homework, but surprisingly he has been tackling it. Its manageable. The STAFF, AMAZING. I have nothing but great interactions with all the staff members. His teachers are awesome and truly are an extension of our parental system in terms of helping our little guy learn and navigate his early years of life! My child has been attending Right Start Academy (RSA) for almost 2 years and I can't say enough about how great of an experience we have had! I was thrilled when I learned that we were up next on the waiting list as we were previously enrolled in another center just 10 minutes up the street and very unhappy with the service being provided. From the beginning, with the facility tour and the enrollment process I could tell that RSA was a step-up from all of the other local centers I had already visited. They were extremely clean, informative and customer/child focused in their approach. My child has flourished since being here and always impresses me from day to day with what she is learning. The curriculum stimulates the children while acknowledging their current pace/level at the same time. The daily activities range from arts & crafts projects, to Zumba and yoga activities and they even take field trips throughout the year (pre-covid). The progress reports provided throughout the year are super helpful and allow for transparency bc they show the areas where your child needs continued development so that you can focus on certain things with them at home. Not only do they do a great job of making sure their families are happy - they treat their staff great as well and that's obvious in the low turnover rate of teachers. We have been lucky to have the same teacher for the past 2 years which has made my child more comfortable and allowed a true teacher-student relationship to develop. The teachers really take the time out to learn the needs (no matter how unique) and the preferences of you and your child. It's not hard to see why they have a waiting list for enrollment year after year. Their prices are in-line with other local childcare facilities but their services are above and beyond. RSA is truly a place where we as parents of small children appreciate. We had our children in Little Eggs (now Elevon) and were reaching our limits of frustration so we looked elsewhere. We toured this place and immediately moved both kids there. Both of our kids 4 and 5 love their teachers and we couldnt ask for a better staffed school. Our daughter started Kindergarten this fall and they initiated a program to facilitate Kindergarten virtual learning. Our daughter goes there and Zooms into her Kindergarten class remotely. We wanted her to have as normal of a Kindergarten experience as possible and be with her peers while learning. Granted the roughly 10 kids there go to several different schools its still a more normal routine environment. This epidemic has tested us all and they have really stepped up to the plate. They had virtual learning daily during the lockdown in MD it was very inexpensive for our kids to log into classrooms online daily and still interact with their teachers and friends. They even had an outdoor graduation for the kids moving on to Kindergarten. These milestones are as important to us as they are for the children and every little bit makes a difference. We have seen tremendous development in our son's academic and personal growth while attending Right Start Academy (RSA). His social skills and articulation of his feelings, thoughts, and experiences have matured at a pleasant rate. The office staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful whenever we've had questions or concerns. The teachers are caring, nurturing, and show genuine love for our son. With an ever-growing vocabulary, he explains all of the good things taking place daily. The quality of education provided to our son at RSA is leagues above other schools he's attended. After joining RSA, we now understand why there is usually a waiting list to enroll a child. I have sent two kids to RSA for preschool. After doing a lot of research with my oldest son we were drawn to Right Start because of the importance that they put on the children's security, giving the parent's peace of mind and a well rounded education. We couldn't be happier with our decision. My children never attended day care or were cared for by non family members before attending RSA. It was very difficult to imagine trusting someone else with their care, safety and education but Right Start helped to make the transition easy for me. I never doubted that they were being cared for by patient, caring and encouraging staff. The teachers are excellent at engaging the children and the curriculum is all encompassing. The kids study the regular reading, writing and arithmetic yoga, Spanish, community awareness and emotional development round out the curriculum. The staff was very much unchanged over the several years between my two children showing that the teachers and administrative staff are passionate about their jobs. Everyone from the front office to the teachers to the support staff always have a kind word for you and your child. The school is excellent at communication. Children are sent home with daily reports that detail what and how much they ate, if they napped and something that they might have really enjoyed doing that day. If any "boo boos" occur the school will contact parents and also make sure to give a boo boo report. There are also a lot of extras here. There are field trips, spirit days (almost every Friday), field day and much more. I whole heartedly give my sincere thanks to RSA and all of the employees for being a positive influence in my children's lives and education. read more

Regardless of friendships I am a parent first and foremost. My children's well being is my first concern and while my daughter attended RSA, she has blossomed. This is due to the teachers she's had at RSA. She has developed the skills she needs (socially and academically) and RSA has prepared her perfectly for kindergarten. Like with most preschool and daycare centers teachers come and go, but I know for a fact that RSA hires the most qualifies teachers. This is not a center that will just place a "body" in a classroom for the sake of saying they are fully staffed. Management cares about the children, the parents and their staff. Yelp is an outlet created to allow others to express their experiences and opinions in the hopes of assisting someone else who is search quality of child care, affordable restaurants, local dentists, etc and I hope that my HONEST reviews accomplish just that. My family and I were disappointed in the quality of care shown by the teachers at Rights Start Academy. The previous reviewer stated that she knows for a fact that the school hires the most qualified teachers but there's no way she could know the quality or lack of quality held by the teachers hired unless she was personally doing the hiring herself. We are aware that teachers leave at some point but we have never seen a turnover rate as high as the one seen at Right Start Academy. The teachers that were being hired were mostly young high school and college kids who were being placed in lead teacher positions because everyone else was leaving, some with as short as a few days notice. Our child saw a MINIMUM of 12 teachers/staff leave the school in a short period of time, which offers no stability for a child what so ever. There may be some parents who have no complaints of the school but unfortunately we had many and WOULD NOT recommend Right Start Academy to our coworkers, friends or Soldiers. read more

I must agree with the first review of this school. There have been LOTS of teachers that have left in a short period of time and several stated they were no longer happy working at the school. The school has not trained the new staff well. Often times they write whatever on the daily sheets and are usually high school or college students with little or no experience in childcare. I could not be happier with our decision to send our child to RSA. Every teacher in the entire preschool knows who my child. This shows how much each teacher cares about the children who attend the school. Even if they do not work with my child directly they make the effort to know her. In terms of academics, the school truly excels. They differentiate throughout the day to make sure each child's needs are met. The teachers understand the mind set of a 2 and 3 year old. We are so pleased with the progress our girls have made at RSA. I have a 2 and 4 year old who attend RSA. They have learned so much in the past year. Not only have they progressed tremendously academically, but they have learned wonderful social skills. They have made great friends and love coming to school. They look forward to the field trips, music classes, yoga, and fun Friday activites. They also love picking out thier toys to bring in for show and share. As a teacher (both at the preschool and higher levels) and parent, I want to first start by saying Right Start treats you and your child like they have known you forever. We just switched our son to this school a few weeks ago, but I never felt anything but welcome and accommodated! The front office stuff is super helpful and always there and willing to answer any questions that we have had. We expressed our comcerns that we had with his previous class at another school and I could see from Day 1 that these issues would not present themselves here. The teachers are super nice, extremely involved and it does not feel that the children are just there to fill a seat. This is sadly the case with some schools. My son is already talking about all of the ways that the teachers help him and things they have taught him, this to me speaks volumes. Miss. My daughter has been attending right start academy all year in the pre k program and we couldn't be happier! Her teachers are friendly and warm. She has made so many friends and loves all the extra curricular activities which are part of her week there, including yoga, music, field trip, etc.... She has begun reading and is excelling academically as well. Sadly she will head off to kindergarten next fall and no longer be able to attend this wonderful school. read more

Both of my boys went to Right Start and I can't begin to describe how happy we were with what they had to offer. The staff was friendly and hard working and my children learned a lot while they were there. Kelly, the manager, does a terrific job and is very friendly. When they hired employees they took their time in hiring the right person for the job. Right Start is clean and orderly unlike a previous preschool that my child had attended prior to the opening of this facility. Highly recommend this preschool. I was first introduced to RSA in 2010. My daughter was about to turn 3 and I was in search of a preschool. I visited several in the Odenton-Crofton-Gambrills area. RSA was by far the most structured. At first I was very nervous about choosing the school because I thought it would be too structured for my laid back parenting style. However none of the other preschools compared in cleanliness and friendliness. I chose RSA for my daughter and she started Fall of 2010. I could not have made a better decision. About a week or 2 before the start of the month you receive an email with a monthly newletter, a calendar of events and the menu. The kids participate in various activities throughout the month such as spanish, music, yoga, field trips (in house and off premises). They have weekly themes and each Friday the kids dress for fun ( pajama day, superhero day, hat day, etc). And RSA hosts a monthly parents night out where kids can come hang out with their friends and have pizza, movies, crafts, etc while the parents can have a little down time. They offer breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack and then as you pick your child up they even offer a car ride home snack. The items on the menu seem fairly well thought out incorporating healthy alternatives such as brown rice instead of white rice, wheat bread, turkey burgers, hummus and plenty of fruits and vegetables. The school requires uniform tops (polo shirt with RSA logo) monday-Thursday during the school year. The teachers are super friendly. They greet each child by name, even when the child isn't in their classroom. Most of them have a background in child development or are currently in school for it. I admit that while my child was at the school they did experience a high staff turnover rate. While my child was in the 2/3 year old class she had 1 teacher, Ms. Jennifer who was there the entire time but I believe there was 2-3 different lead teachers in the year. Likewise when she moved to the 4/5 year old classroom she had 1 constant teacher Ms. May and 2 different lead teachers during the year. It was a little disheartening but in fairness a couple of the teachers left due to pregnancies or new job opportunities. But as I have read in some other reviews I never had high school kids in charge of my child's classroom. There were a few full time college students and 1 high school girl who would help out as needed floating between the classrooms. But the head teachers were always adults with education backgrounds. And the most important is the education. My child could write her 1st and last name before she was 4. She knew her numbers, shapes, colors. She knew about 40 sight words before she graduated in 2012. The only negative I could see was she had learned so much in preschool she was super bored in kindergarten. She had far surpassed the kindergarten curriculum. I had such a positive experience I knew my next child would also be a RSA student. So fall of 2014 arrived and it was time to enroll my next child into RSA. I hadn't been back since summer 2012 so it was great to see MANY familiar faces and to greeted my some new ones. The program has been the same as I remember 2 years prior. And it makes my older child feel special that the teachers she had still remember her and greet her every time she walks into the school. Also, it was great to see many returning families who had older children that attended RSA with my first child and now their other children have started with my 2nd child. It goes to show how wonderful the school, staff and program are. My child currently attending LOVES school just like her big sister did. She has fun and within 2 months of attending she already knows how to write her first name, knows numbers, shapes, colors... My child has 3 great teachers in her classroom that she adores. She loves telling me stories about her day at RSA. I would absolutely recommend the school to others! In fact I have and those families have expressed their gratitude to me sharing the information because their children have also had very positive experiences. read more
