Wonderful experience!! This is the second time we have used Maryland Decking and Kyle Funk as our salesperson; they came in on budget for our project and in the time frame that we needed. Kyle is a great salesperson, but we had a couple questions regarding the placement of something during installation, so he showed up day of installation with shovel in hand. They want things to be as right as we did, which is refreshing. GREAT customer service! The project consisted of extended a patio that we had done by them a few years ago, you would never know that it wasn't original, blends perfectly and the crew couldn't have been better, they worked hard and when we asked a question they stopped to listen and then gave us the answer without being annoyed. Left the site neat and clean too. Hard to find good workers, with good customer service while staying in budget and on time with a great salesperson on top of it! We had such a great experience with Maryland Decking. Austin came out to the house a few times and was so helpful walking us through the options, sizing, and giving recommendations. I loved that we had different material choices and several colors to pick from, which made it easy to get exactly what we wanted. The team that did the work was awesome - professional, hardworking, and you can tell they take pride in what they do. Our deck has a long staircase, so it was a big project, but they made it look easy and the finished product turned out amazing. Took months to get the plans approved and get permits. Lumber was dropped off but it took another 5 days for the subcontractor to start. Once the footings passed inspection the crew (2 men) had to stop since the wrong lumber was dropped off which delayed the job another 4 days. The subcontractor did not clean up, did not go back to make sure nails were flush and several nails missed the lumber below, completely. They added support brackets on the outside of the deck that were uneven from one side to another and visible to all, should have been added under the deck. When I called with my concerns my salesman referred me to an email address to reach out myself. Needless to say I got no response and a few days later, I reached out to the salesman again who, once again, referred me to someone else in the office. Horrible experience, would have hired a different company if I knew my deck would be doled out to a subcontractor. Definitely do not feel I got what I paid for and highly do not recommend Maryland Decking since they aren't the ones building your project anyway. read more

We paid $26,000 for a fence. Every time our fence gets a bit of wind, it breaks. Every time. It's been 2 years of fixing the fence every time we get wind. We will be paying on this the next 10 years. read more

I spoke to Austin Karls in November 2023. MD Decking was one of the ten companies I interviewed for the deck project. The pricing was very competitive for all the features, decking options, and special features of my design (picture frame, black metal balusters, LED lights on posts, and the challenging waterfall steps. After the contract signature, Kenny Baker was assigned as my project manager. Austin was very patient with the HOA; it took months to approve the plans. They submitted detailed plans to the county; they were approved within three weeks. The crew assigned (Luis Romero and his partner Cano) to my project was top-notch. They were very attentive to details and cleaned the worksite daily. The project was delivered on time, and the end product was fantastic! (see pictures). I best describe my overall experience as "Jacked and Robbed". We initially met with **** ***** for the estimate and he immediately made us feel comfortable and confident that Maryland Decking was ethical. We later found out that was a false pretense. Once we accepted the quote and moved forward paying the deposit, we were told it could be a couple weeks for the permits to be approved through the County. About a week later, we received an email from *** ****** with the material delivery and start dates. The entire time it was implied that permits were in hand and all work to be performed was approved by Anne Arundel County, MD. On day 2 of the build, we received an "anonymous" harassing complaint regarding the project having no permits displayed on the job site. What should have been a very simple correction by the Maryland Decking leadership (*** ****** Project manager) to produce "the permit" alleviating this issue, instead brought to light, that NO PERMITS WERE OBTAINED or applied for regarding our project. I cannot express my level of shock and disappointment that this "Veteran" owned Company with 5 Stars ratings could set themselves up like this and allow their paying customer to have to settle for "less than" regarding their end state. An outsider was able to impede on the customers wishes and alter the agreed upon project results. I am now stuck with a fence that I would have never embarked upon knowing that I could not achieve the end result of privacy. I was "taken for a ride" by Maryland Decking and I would like to warn all potential future customers that they look great on the surface, but deep down they lack the protocol to conduct proper business. We hired Maryland Decking to install rain escape over an existing deck, replace columns and footings, and screen in the 1st story. The sales experience was great and they tried to accommodate our budget, but as soon as we made the deposit the communications problems started. The Project manager was impossible to contact. We had no idea when work was going to occur or any follow-up after work was completed to ensure satisfaction. The quality of the work for the most part is pretty good. Our screened in porch is a beautiful space. However, during project wrap-up, it took months for the crew to address our punch list items and finally the project manager just said they were done. Communication is the biggest problem. There is no proactive communication between the project manager and the customer. The sales team does not communicate with the project manager as we had to intervene when the crew was installing something different than we had arranged with the salesman. Neither the sales team or the project manager communicates with the administrative team. We were getting final bills before the project was even complete. Worst of all, by addressing a punch list item, the crew created a leak in our waterproof screened in porch. The project manager said there was nothing they could do after spending only 60 seconds looking at it. Customer satisfaction and quality control are not priorities for this company. This company is content with their finished product having a leak every time it rains. We will not be hiring Maryland Decking for any more projects and I will be encouraging my neighbors to do the same. read more

We paid $40,000 to Maryland Decking to remove an existing deck and build a new 2 tier deck. However upon demolition Maryland Decking failed to tell us the rim/joist to the house was rotten their was a 8x5" hole. Maryland Decking proceeded to attach the new two tier deck to the rotten rim/joist. We found this out because when it rains we have water penetrating into our unfinished basement. We understand it was not Maryland Deckings job to fix the rotten rim/joist however we should of been made aware of the issue after demolition and before they proceeded to attach the deck to our home/ rim joist. After contacting the company about this issue a Kenny Baker(manager) came out and looked at the rotten rim/joist visible from our unfinished basement. He stated and said yes they should of saw this and made you aware of it and suggested a contractor for the repair. He left and apparently his boss the owner Barnabas Domowski did not agree with him. Barnabas told Kenny they would of never saw that rotten rim/joist and said we would have to hire a contractor. Barnabas the owner of Maryland Decking has never once called or contacted us about this issue. We have filed a complaint with the Maryland Attorney General. See pics read more

We are thrilled with our new screened in/expanded deck project. The cost was worth the finished product - it is even better than we imagined. Everyone that we worked with was great! Josh, who did our estimate, carefully listened to what we were envisioning and was very prompt in responding to any additional questions once we had the estimate. Kenny, our contractor, was great at keeping informed on timelines, etc. And we were continually amazed at how much Marvin and the crew were able to accomplish each day. I tried to give the company the benefit of the doubt when it came to communication and the work that was done but I hit my last straw and would like to share this awful experience and all the details. I should have known not to go with this company and the salesperson that I worked with brought his kids with him to give me an estimate and his children walked all through my plants and flowers that were planted. He did not say anything to his children about being respectful of someone's property. I received a quote after about a week and it did take me about 2 weeks or so to sign the quote because I did get a few additional quotes. The communication was absolutely horrible For everything that was needed I needed to reach out to the salesperson at least 3 times each time to get information or an answer to my question. I got the quote around April 2021 and it took until October 2021 to actually get the work completed. The fact that I had to continue to have to reach out to get information or an update was ridiculous. How can a business operate without communicating with its customers? Furthermore, when I reached out for the 100th time about a start date he then talked about financing forms which again pushed it back. VERY UNORGANIZED. The work was done in 2 days and was not what we had agreed on and no one mentioned to me that they made it smaller than what I wanted. I had to contact them on my own and let them know. He told me he thought they just decided to do it so it would look better. They did give me a portion of the money back but I can't help but wonder if they would have even told me if I didn't bring it up. The last thing that happened was after they installed the front portion my light pole stopped working. I did wait a few months but called an electrician and they told me that the wire in the front of the house was broken and blew a fuse which was causing the light not to work. He checked the plug and in order for the outlet him my garage to work he had to detach the wire to the pole. I called the company to let them know what I was told. It took a week and a half to hear anything back and that was again only because I had to reach out multiple times. The owner called and said he didn't want to take responsibility for someone else's mistake. Did not offer to send someone out to look at it, only tried to "work" with me by helping with the pavers. If only one of these things happened it would have been okay but my experience all together working with this company was awful. I do NOT recommend. read more

The good and bad - Maryland Decking installed my deck and patio (at different times). I am satisfied with the appearance of both. The communication with my sales rep was great. The contractors for both projects were extremely professional. The BAD - The tractor the contractor used while installing the patio damaged my yard. The tractor marks are clearly visible. We now have a swamp area on one side of our yard. It runs the entire length of the house. Because of the damage, we are barely able to use the gate on our fence. I had the patio installed 5 months after purchasing the house. We are completely disappointed with the appearance of the yard. The owner inspected the area and said he would repair the damage. The repair has not happen. After spending over 12K with Maryland Decking, the yard damage should have been repaired to my satisfaction. read more

I met with Kyle on July 20th, very nice guy, presents well and knows a lot about the work he performs and gave me really good ideas as I wanted to renovate my screened porch. business. After meeting with him, and only having had one other estimate, I selected Maryland Decking. After that initial meeting I was told that I would receive an estimate in about 1 week, and I did not. I reached out and Kyle stated he was working on it, and that I should receive the estimate within one week. I did receive the estimate a few days later. I reviewed the estimate which was A LOT more than what we discussed, by $15,000!! I reached out to Kyle twice to discuss the estimate via email and text. Nothing! Today, I can say that I'm happy that I did not choose (Maryland Decking. Their lack of response speaks volumes. I gave a one rating because Kyle did you show up to provide an estimate That's it! Again, I'm glad i learned early on how unresponsive they could be. read more

Maryland Decking did phenomenal work and all personnel were very professional. They communicated effectively throughout the process. Dave is an excellent up front sales person who ensured we designed our deck properly and were informed about all the available options: stone under deck, 8ft railing. James and his crew are undoubtedly talented experts in building decks. Deck passed all inspections the first time around and even the inspector was impressed. We are very pleased and excited to use our new deck. We have been waiting for a new deck since we first contracted with them in February 2021. Once we received the estimate, we called to approve and sent them the signed contract. They told us it could take up to 3 months, due to lack of materials, etc. So the first of May, we called and asked when they would be here to build our new deck. They said they never received the contract and never called us. If we wanted them to build us a deck, we were starting over and it could be another 2 or 3 months! We signed another contract and even took the building permit application to Annapolis ourselves to avoid further delays. Once we got home, Maryland Decking called and told us she gave us the wrong amount for the check we had just paid for the permit! Then she said we would also need a variance! I'm done! My husband is furious. We canceled the contract and we will never use this company in the future. I do not recommend them, unless you simply want to go in circles and never get what they promised. read more

I could've done a better job myself putting up this fence. We already had two side fences from the previous owners so we wanted to enclose them since we have a dog. They left gaps between the old fence and new fence since they for some reason couldn't build off of the old posts even though they said they would use the exact same posts and panels...which they didn't. But because the gaps were less than 3.5" and the crooked post still had the level bubble partly in the middle it was up to code. Don't hire these guys to do your fence, you'll be giving money for half-assed work. read more

We contacted Barnabas to see if his company could remove two sunroom windows to install French doors and install a deck. The whole process was very smooth, efficient, and well-done. Barnabas is a great communicator and overall super nice guy. He also took care of all the permit and HOA paperwork. They use contractors instead of their own employees and destroyed my landscaping. I specifically asked the sales rep if Maryland Decking sub contracts any of the work for my job. He wrote in an email the following "Our crews work for Maryland decking only we do not sub contract our work." I had several issues with the fence installation, including corners that were not at a 90 degree angle, fence lines that were crooked, and they destroyed a number of mature pine trees that were professionally landscaped. They claimed the trees were in the way but didn't say a word to me and rather, I found the trees after they hacked them with a machete. When I contacted the production manager, he said there was nothing they could do because the crew was sub-contracted. Ultimately, they did return to correct the corner that was not angled correctly and fixed the fence line so it was straight, but they gave me a hard time about it and did nothing for the landscaping. The production manager continuously cited the contract, where it's written basically that they guarantee pretty much nothing when it comes to quality of the work. For instance, here's a quote from the production manager regarding the corner not being at a 90 degree angle "As stated in section 6 of contract: "All measurements are approximations and may need minor modification, as per site conditions." I would not hire them again. read more

Maryland Decking replaced my front and back deck and stairway. The City of Annapolis required many a hoop to jump, but 21/2 months later, we got the permit. What an amazing transformation! The new stair is not as steep as my old one, and solid as a rock. We can finally use our front door! The back deck was transformed from a rickety deck to a beautiful solid addition to my home. The hardware is solid, and I can see this will last longer than my 30 year old wooden deck. TJ and Jesse did a fantastic job and were wonderful to work with. They answered all of my questions, and were always polite - even when my dogs barked constantly for hours when they worked near the door. They cleaned up the debris and offered to help put away some leftover pieces for me. I am very happy with the finished product and work ethic of Maryland Decking. read more

Yesterday they finished replacing a small 7x8 deck with a 12x20 deck. What a fantastic job they did. Each day they cleaned up after themselves leaving my yard looking better then when they arrived. The deck quality of the work is beyond what I could have asked for. They invited questions and were very friendly to talk with.
