I haven't tasted the food yet; there's a long line up of people waiting for their orders to materialize - about 25 people before us! Uber eats is trundling in too; I've seen about 2-3 of those. I'm gaining weight just from the smell!! I am giving this place a 5-star just based on the smell!! But I reserve the right to change my mind after eating. I love the decor! That wall with the jelly bean houses on it! Ok, by now maybe you know that Mary Browns is a chain our of Newfoundland, so I had to try this at least once. I never ever eat breaded and friend chicken; honestly, KFC is good enough! What can I say? I was hungry!! But I love Newfoundland, and I want to know how this compares!! Also to note: there was a lot of staff behind the counter, so things seemed to move fairly quickly. Oh and I saved something for next time: they have introduced banana pudding!! Sorry for the drool marks on this review... Two meal deals included drinks and coleslaw for, $28.00. I will update my review after I taste all this for the first time. My stomach is sincerely grumbling!! UPDATE: oh man, was this ever good! The chicken was juicy and tender, the coating was perfect! The fries were wedgies and already coated and flavoured, so we didn't add salt or ketchup. The coleslaw was so good that all they needed to do was give bigger portions! Delish!! My first time at a Mary Browns is when I worked shift work in southern Ont. The location was in the worst part of town but I went anyways. So good! I was so happy to come back to Ottawa and there are some here! Whooo! This location at the Centrum is BUSY and there is no drive thru. Parking is nuts but hey, it is close to Xmas and it was a Sunday. There was a line up but it went fairly quickly. There was only one gal handling all the order taking and the bagging of the food but she kept her cool and was a champ. I got a small tater and a spicy chicken sandwich with light mayo. I was full after the taters for the whole day. They are well seasoned, tasty and these taters have meatiness! I adore potatoes and I feel they are the best out there. Served nice and hot. I got to the sandwich much, much later and it was really good too. Would get that again. Condiments on the side you can grab include Louisiana hot packets, ketchup, salt and pepper. I think about those potatoes all the time now. Definitely worth waiting in line for and the price is on par with everywhere else. read more

This is a generous 4 star review so be warned. I felt too bad to give a 3. You get good size helpings of what you order, as expected for the price you pay. The food quality is 4/5 stars, at least at the time of writing. It is fast food and quick to arrive so checks all the basics. If this is all you are interested in read no further. I pretended to be unsure of what I wanted when ordering to asses if the staff would suggest anything or help me out. Sadly they were unable to assist making for an awkward and silent wait while I decided what to do with a couple people waiting patiently behind me and staring at me. After my order was ready your name is called and that is the end of the process. No serviettes or condiments are added to your order so if you leave you have no way of eating it or any sauces/salt or a way to clean your hands. I would expect to be asked if I need anything or have the basics (paper serviette) at least added to the order in case you grab and go. The cleanliness of the location was sub par. Very average. I also checked the washroom - apparently cleaned at 11 but at 11:20 was unused and not clean. Drywall has missing paint where a mirror has been ripped off and in addition the lock on the male washroom lock did not work. Female washroom was no better with litter on the floor etc. Staff should ensure workplace cleaning is done correctly before standards slip too far as this can degrade food quality also if general cleanliness is not of utmost importance. Overall its not a 5 star location. 3 on a bad day. 4 on a good day. Hopefully they can improve this and be serious. read more

I knew it would be good. Hell, I knew it would be GREAT. I've often traveled to Kingston from Barrhaven to get my chicken fix. My friends and family always think I'm nuts to travel 90 minutes to get my chicken fix. Surely it can't be THAT good? For fast food fried chicken, I have not had better. When I found out that Mary Brown's was finally coming back to Ottawa, to say I was thrilled would be an understatement. The Kanata location opened on January 11, 2019. I decided to go on the 12th - a SATURDAY. Waited almost an hour in line. Was it worth it. YUP. Will I return, even if the line-up is that long? YUP. Impressed at how the staff did not get flustered with the sheer number of people waiting to be served. Other chicken joints get bent out of shape if there are more than 3 people in line. As I drove home with a huge smile on my face, I snacked on the Chicken Popins while the family feast stayed warm in the back seat. Waiting in line made me hungry! read more

Took a visit during their grand opening just to try the chicken. There was no lineup, got their $3.99 grand opening special of two piece and taters. The inside of the establishment was clean and looked modern. As for the chicken, it was pretty good, better than KFC. The chicken was crispy and not soggy like you would expect from KFC, the inside if the chicken was juicy. The batter/flour mix would be similar to KFC, but not as thick or crunchy like Popeye's. The pieces were normal size as compared to the tiny pieces you would get from a KFC. Overall the chicken was delicious, the taters were also good, but I was not a fan of the touch of cinnamon and sugar. But the taters did have what I can assume is the same batter the chicken had which puts them above the average taters I would normally have. Their prices are comparable to KFC and Popeye's based on what you get. I would definitely return in the event of another chicken craving, but would go more often if they continued to have promos every now and then. A great alternative to the usual fried chicken! read more

If you like Popeye's or KFC than you will love Mary Brown's. Best chicken on the planet. Stopped in on Sat night. Managed to get through a 20 minute wait and landed a table. Food is what I expected. I go to the Dufferin Road store whenever near Toronto. The chicken is moist and tender without the KFC dripping grease mess. Super tasty. The potato wedges are the best on the planet as well. As we were enjoying the food, the line up grew outside the door and around the plaza a bit. The manager came out and apologized and made the customers feel at ease. The only regret is that this is the only store in Ottawa for a bit. They are opening another at the movie theatres on Carling. As their old ad from years ago "Mary Brown's best legs in town" still applies. read more

Better than the chicken they *used* to have at KFC (but don't anymore). Very tender and juicy. I'm not a huge fan of their wedges, but their coleslaw is delicious. It's our go-to fried chicken place. So happy they opened in Kanata! read more

Food is great, staff is pleasant and curtious, quick service. Just one thing when you order ahead and then pick up your food, check the bag before you leave. Same all around, they don't check the order properly, and there could be items missing. So if you don't want to go back, CHECK YOUR ITEMS TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS THERE. read more

I have visited this restaurant 3 times and all 3 times the food was awesome. One thing I like is the person on cash is not handling the food. Dedicated workers behind the counter are preparing the food. The place is kept clean and the employee's are dressed in clean clothes. This is one of the best fried chicken places. The taters are way better than fries. One thing I like is it's real potato and not a bunch of processed French fries. It's my favourite place to go when I want fried chicken treat. I'm glad they have come to Ottawa. They've been in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia for decades but they are fairly new to the Ottawa area. read more

I like the product - since an outlet opened in Foxtrap, NL when I was a teenager. I'm not impressed with the Kanata outlet. Twice now I have been overcharged (for takeout orders); e.g. I ordered three, 2-pce meals. The receipt lists one 2 piece meal @ $10.49, another 2 piece meal @ $10.49, then 1 sm cloeslaw @2.99, 1 sm Taters $2.99 and 1 2pc chicken $7.00 ... total = $12.28 even though there was a softdrink in the bag. In this case the mistake was brought to the attention of the staff members who basically said the bill was okay and appeared not to be bothered by the error. Time before, I ordered an extra sm coleslaw, which ended up costing $5.99 (an error that was not noticed until I was back home). Again, I like the product; but please supervise or retrain your staff. read more
