Gator's Tail is one of my favourite places in Cambridge. I probably go once a month for Friday…read morenight karaoke, or #gatoroke as my wife likes to say. As well I'd end up going during the summer after slo-pitch games at the nearby Cambridge Sports Park. They offer team deals and have a cashback offer at the end of the season which is pretty awesome. The food I've always found to be pretty good. Gator's Tail was previously a Shoeless Joe's franchise, then another restaurant called Montage before it's current iteration and there are certain items that survived on the menu from the swap over. The lattice fries are one that I can recall surviving. I will typically order their wings with lattice fries and the garlic dill dip. They also have a spicy Gator dip that is quite good. The fish tacos are also delicious. They have a pretty big menu with lots of options, as well as an after 8 menu with some special and deals. One curiosity they have on their menu is Gator Bites, which are made from actual gator which is pretty unique. Their beer selection is solid. Often they will have what's become the standard premium beer menu I've seen at other places, with Rolling Rock, Stella Artois, Steamwhistle and Mill Street Organic. They also tend to have a microbrew on tap to try out. As I mentioned I frequent the karaoke on Friday nights, but that's just one of the things they have going on there. They'll often have special event nights, one I can recall is a surf and turf in the summer, as well as Yuk Yuk's comedy once a month on Saturdays. They often sell out in advance, so they're something you need to plan going to. They also host regular UFC nights. Gator's is one of the few places in Cambridge that have stuff going on on a regular basis, so I definitely rank it highly as far as places to go in town.

It is currently lockdown in the middle of winter when patio or car eating are the only options…read more Heated patio here, visited on -9C, need the jacket on. I stopped in for a bite, after reading a review complimenting that patio was suitable for spring and autumn...so why not winter. We called in and asked if their patio was open, then learned we could reserve spots. It was-9C with wind chill and some sun. They were accomodating to slot us in for 2.30-3.30pm and even when we were slightly late they honoured and held our reservation. We ordered the wings at $15 for 7 pieces and the swet potato fries for $12 (plsteful). The wings were well fried and generously coated with honey garlic, we were asked if we wanted it on the side or all over. The wings were served with two sticks of celery and one carrot and a blue cheese dip. The sweet potato fries were skinny and fried with a light coating that was extra crispy and served with an aioli sauce. The location has menus on the wall and QR code. The heaters near the menu on the ceiling was on but the ones facing the opposite direction was on. A bit drafty, I would recommend sitting closer to the covered patio side. The location has some comfy blankets to use, but not much is done to sanitize customer to customer so we enjoyed our own jacket. The restaurant recommended to bring some blankets but we were on the go and didny have any. The parking lot has spots, but I would presume most customers would be drinking and responsibly walking or riding taxi.

The location is an old house and the holidays amplified the cozy atmosphere to 100. The fire place was great and warm and I loved it. The food was amazing and the portions were ginormous. Would definitely recommend the Mac and cheese the spices were perfect.

Turtle Jack's is. . .okay…read more And that's about the best you can say for it. I've tried it a few times, to be fair. I thought maybe the first time when the food wasn't stellar that it was a fluke (all restaurants have bad days), or that maybe I hadn't tried the right dish. So we went back, twice more and each time had basically the same experience. The staff is always friendly enough, the servers always fairly prompt, but not the kind of service that makes you go 'WOW'. The menu consists of very run-of-the-mill pub food. Burgers, fish and chips, nachos. . .that type of thing. The appetizers are alright, the food is. . .passable but very standard and kind of bland. It's like you're eating, you know there's food in your mouth because your chewing, but you're not sure WHY you're eating. The best thing you can say when you're done is, 'well, I'm not hungry anymore'. So would I go back? No. Would I tell other people to go? No. But is it awful? No. It's just boring. It's not horrible, but if you're going to pay for food, you can do much better.

So that's what I ordered today. It took a while for it to arrived. When it did, the pasta was overcooked and cold, the sauce had no taste and the chicken was burnt. I was hungry and didn't have a lot of time so didn't complain and started eating it. About halfway through, my server asked how it was. I told her the chicken was burnt and she offered to have another one made. I said I didn't have time so said I'd eat it as it was. She came back and said I wouldn't be billed for it. Since I was eating, I insisted on paying but she said the manager said there was no cost. My server was nice (I left her a tip) but I don't think I'll be rushing back to this restaurant.

We were mistaken; there were no iPhone 3G(s) phones anywhere in Ontario -- could not get them for love nor money. We weren't about to purchase phones we didn't want, since we'd only qualify for the promotional price for the phones once, so we left unsatisfied. Found a pay-phone and called our new landlord, who met us at the house. After a walkthrough of our new premises, after settling the cats in with litter-box and water, after hastily unloading the car, we took our exhausted selves off to find someplace open for dinner at 9:30 at night. The shopping mall a couple of blocks from our house had a bar/grill called "Shoeless Joe's" that was open; the bar was crowded, so we opted to eat in the quiet dining room. Our waitress was pleasant, personable and efficient; she was also, apparently, being given a hard time by some drunkies in the bar next door (we overheard her conversing with the manager about refusing service to someone). Well, we weren't going to give anyone any trouble, tired and hungry as we were. I got the lobster fettuccine with tomato cream sauce; His Goatness got the meaty-meat platter with hickory smoked BBQ ribs and chicken wings with a smoked jalapeño honey sauce. We ordered the Sleeman's Honey Ale, which a friend of ours declaimed as her favorite beer -- it arrived in a can that was so plain and cheap-looking as to appear generic. The taste: flat as a pre-teen training bra. No complexity, no real flavor. What a disappointment! Dinner: late-night bar food chain standard, like what could be found in any Chile's or TGI Friday's. (HG liked his meaty-meat better than I liked my entree. What I tasted of the lobster suggested that it was better I not really taste it through the heavy sauce.) Still, I am grateful that they were open that late, and I always appreciate great service. Finally fed, our humor improved as we headed home to camp in our empty house...
