Yum-O! This place rocks!! I am in love with little bakeries and this one is no exception. Everything I have had from here is delicious! Donuts, cake, bread, gosh everything is divine!!! The smell of wafting pastries is enough to break your will power and your diet. I walked in and wanted to try everything (and I pretty much did). The chocolate cake was great. Moist with light, fluffy frosting. Just how I like it. The fresh baked bread with cheese was insanely delicious. I do regret that I had them slice it for me. I didn't realize the slices would be so thin (like standard sandwich bread) and that took away from the decadent chunky bread bit experience I had when I tasted their samples. Loved their raspberry filled donut too! The only thing I was not wild about? The customer service. The woman behind the counter was not particularly friendly. The customer in front of me underpaid (due to a mistake on the employees part) and she proceeded to bang on the counter and demand more money. I know that sounds harsh and indeed it kind of was. Marv's fritters are an irresistible combination of apple, cinnamon, frosting and dough. Each fritter is big enough for two people, but I recommend getting your own. Don't be scared off by the sign outside. Marv's also has a meat counter with great cuts of steak and its famous ground round for the perfect hamburger. **Closed Mondays. read more

My husband and I get something from Marv's at least once per week, usually more often during grilling season. We consider ourselves extremely fortunate to be so close to such a great resource for fresh and delicious breads and meats! Marv's is always busy, so there is enough turnover to ensure the highest quality merchandise. The workers are all fast and friendly. The prices are reasonable, especially because you can generally order only what you want (bread is sold by the bag/loaf, but you can order 3 strips of bacon without any dirty looks). Note that there is a minimum purchase amount required for credit card purchases (possibly $5, but not sure off the top of my head). I ordered a decorated cake for my brother's wedding shower a few years ago, and it turned out great. Everything I've gotten there has gone over well at parties. I went in to Marv's with my family and the smells overtook me. So wonderful. There's really nothing like this place as far as baked goods go. One thing that I'd ask as a consumer is that they consider selling even a small selection of free-range meat. For some reason when I've asked, twice, for free-range chicken, I've been met with a look, and this time I was told, 'Free range doesn't mean anything, it just means opening a door.' Uh, isn't that something? Free-range, organic farm-raised meat isn't a passing fad (they do have Applegate Farms lunchmeat), and I hope that this great bakery/butcher considers selling to that market -- it'd be an easy five stars. Awesome little bakery and butcher just outside of Brighton. Their pastries and breads and unique are delicious, but the pull apart bread is amazing!!! They have a lot of house made items in the meat case, I can't get enough of the blueberry breakfast sausage. They even have homemade Mac and cheese that can make a hearty meal. Call night before from Riverview to make sure I could pick up 2 packs on Onion Rolls the Gentleman was great said he save me two packs got there at 10:00 am and the old bat behind counter was rude and just throw 2 Eclairs in a bag both suck together had to throw them out. Every time I would ask for something else rude. Screaming what else! I hope the Owners read this they have my number from ordering Onion Rolls. Next time I will wait for young girl. read more

I would have loved a couple of minutes to look over the items but she would not let me hesitate for a second. Probably would have bought more too. The donuts were good but since she stuffed them all in a bag together there was no distinct taste; lemon cream mixed with chocolate icing, glazed also mixed with lemon icing. there is nothing I hate more than not getting a box for 1/2 a dozen donuts; but having them stuffed together. HATE IT! Also tried the cheese onion rye bread which was also good. But again, that biddie counter help will stop me from shopping here again. I can find good donuts with courteous help many other places than here. Thus the poor rating. If you like to be abused, by all means try this place. read more

Ordered a 21st birthday cake and when I picked it up the name was misspelled! Was supposed to have a martini glass omit and had something that didn't even resemble that! I was told to come back in an hour to fix the name only! This place was out of the way to begin with folks! They were cold, uncaring and refused even a modest price adjustment. The cake was $44 for a 9 inch round! I had never been there and the breads, deli and cookies looked great. I f they had given better customer service I would have used them for these other things but now they've lost that opportunity. My family bought some supplies there for weekend brunch. Fresh Polish sausage was nicely seasoned, not too salty, and the right texture. About $7/lb. though. They hadn't marked weight on package, I had to weigh it myself to figure out portions. The Country French and Rustic breads were fresh. They looked pretty. Those were their only good qualities. They had zero taste, and except for one's crust being dusted with a bit of cornmeal, seemed exactly alike. I guess Marv's is in a rush. They were too rushed to label the loaves, so I'm not sure which is which. It doesn't matter much White, fluffy pillows of blah, much too large for their weight, no better than mass-market commercial store bread. "Rustic" breads should have some chewy dense texture. Of course, to accomplish that, you would have to let the dough rise slowly to develop flavor, instead of rushing. In future I will skip the out-of-my-way trip and continue to buy the quite good Artisan line breads from Meijer. They are both cheaper and tastier. read more

Marvs has the best meats in Michigan!! We are blessed to live near Marvs. There are an "old fashioned" meat market, which means they have great products at fair prices with great service!! I love this place! Wonderful doughnuts and you get free coffee with purchase! Great brats and premade burgers. Service is always friendly. I had a custom order on meat for Friday after Thanksgiving that I put in late and the butcher knew I needed it early Friday, but we agreed it would be ready by 11 am. Friday morning the butcher called me at 8 am to tell me it was ready. He went out of his way to help me, which you rarely find these days! AMAZING! read more

The molasses cookies here are TO DIE FOR. Chewy, yet just the right amount of give, a lil bit of spice in the background, and the molasses is the star, just as it should be. The sugar on the outside isn't too thick or crunchy or metallic-y tasting (which has happened to me when using plain granulated sugar instead of super fine, which I am pretty sure is what they use). Got three small bags of eight Paczyki's. The guy helping me asked if I wanted a big bag for the three bags, I asked for a box. He said he didn't have one. I looked around at the four other people with boxes, I asked why they all had boxes. He said, "Because they(the other workers) took the time to fold them." This bakery & meat shop is awesome. They always have tons o' samples from their bakery case. There is a mean cinnamon raisin bread, sourdough rye, russian rye, and many more. They also sell delicious pastries (eclairs etc), pies, and cookies (the molasses ones are the best). Whenever we are visiting relatives downstate my parents buy the thick slab bacon and various other meat products, which I don't eat, but my parent's rave about. Look, before I moved to Michigan I had 3 favorite bakeries that were guaranteed winners when I need to order an amazing cake for someones birthday/anniversary/graduation. Not to mention amazing Polish and Italian pastries. But that was Pittsburgh. When we moved here and asked around about a great bakery for a birthday cake, we were met with puzzled looks and the name of a grocery store. We tried that, and a couple of bakeries; their results were underwhelming (I remember one cake tasting like onions). Because of this, I had to spend nearly a year taking off the 20 pounds that I gained while learning how to make the perfect buttercream frosting and cake to make up for the lack of a decent bakery. Then I went to a function and politely took a piece of cake planning on taking a courtesy bite and ditching the plate. Instead, I think that angels started to sing. Seriously. I found the woman responsible for the cake, and she told me nonchalantly that she got it at Marv's. Like it was no big deal. I wanted to shake her for more details, but I kept my cool and found out about Marv's - how it's a bakery and butcher and they sell great stuff. We've been to Marv's for their incredible apple fritters (warm - big enough for 3 to share), their cake, and bread (they'll slice it for you). We've never had anything but friendly service, and you get a free coffee with your order. I have nothing bad to say (maybe THAT's my gripe!). If you don't make great cakes and if you want something WAY better than a grocery/warehouse/crappy bakery - try the place. If you don't like it, you're wrong. Because it's a bit far, it never dawns on me to buy meat there, but I do remember seeing some really good looking lamb when we stopped by. read more

Merry Christmas! What I appreciate most about Marv's is their customer service and meat prices. My wife and son just stopped in (12/15/18) to buy 4 lbs. of ground veal for stuffed cabbages for our Christmas dinner. She returned with frozen ground veal which she paid a whopping $15.89 a pound for! I thought that was a bit outrageous so I called another local butcher 20 minutes drive from Marv's. They had fresh ground veal for $6.59 a pound! I promptly called Marv's and spoke to the meat manager just to give him a heads up as to what his local competitor was selling ground veal for. He said that because Marv's is so small, that's what they have to pay to bring the veal in. I responded that his competitor is equally as small. This was followed by a 20 second period of silence, after which the manager hung up on me. Needless to say, that will be the last trip my family and friends will make to Marv's. Buyer beware! Kirk H. Only thing we've gotten here are the chocolate chip cookies. My usual chocolate chip cookie type is thick and chewy. When my DH got these, they were a bit flat and looked like they would be crispy...I was disappointed looking at them until I tried them. They were actually a bit chewy with some crispness and the flavor was really good...not super sweet like I was anticipating. Great classic bakery and butcher shop. The cinnamon pull-apart is awesome, but make sure to buy 2 because the first one never seems to make it home. The cakes and cookies are average, but the strudel is fabulous in every flavor. The butcher shop is the real deal. Great selection and quality. Marv's bakery makes the most awesome and addictive cinnamon rolls I've every experienced. I wish I had their recipe..... Anyway, they are always nice there in the bakery and the meat department. I want to buy everything because it's all so fresh. They even sell pasties and pierogies there! I highly recommend this place for their bakery, chicken and hamburger and much much more. I have been going to Marv's for several years and unfortunately will never return. Their customer service is terrible, rude, inconsiderate and unappreciative of their patrons' business. I entered the building 10 minutes early and was very rudely told that they don't open until 7:30. I would have happily come back later, but two employees tried to make me feel like an idiot for not seeing the sign on the door. The last time I was there, the employee taking my order was clearly getting frustrated that I wasn't picking donuts out fast enough. Prices are high, which I don't mind paying to local businesses but not with the poor service. read more

My first trip to Marv's and I am so excited to share my experience. I was greeted by a young man behind the bakery counter and marveled at the yummy cases of fresh breads and baked goods. An cute older gentlemen said, "You can't go wrong with anything you choose!" So I bought the egg bread and onion cheddar bread. The young man behind the counter also gave me an apple fritter for being a first timer!!! I LOVE THIS place and plan on returning for more yummies.
