We got several quotes, and the prices were all fairly similar. But Tony took the time to send us photos and videos of the roof so we understood exactly why each part of the work needed to be done. That transparency is why we chose him, and we couldn't have been luckier that we did. Once the work began, it turned out our roof hadn't been built to code in the first place. Years of water damage meant the plywood and even several rafters had to be replaced. Tony walked us through every step and kept sending us videos throughout the process. Naturally, these unexpected findings added to the cost, but he was incredibly understanding about our situation and gave us generous discounts on the additional work and materials. At the time, my father-in-law was working as a roofer in New York, so I was able to run everything by him. He confirmed that everything Tony found and recommended was completely legitimate. In the three years since, we haven't had a single problem with the roof. Every time it rains, I'm thankful for Tony and his crew. They did the job and so much more. They added a bunch of roofing material to my roof hatch cut out making it much harder to fit the hatch on top of the opening. I had to end up cutting back a bunch of the extra roofing material to make it fit and hired a handyman to help me do that. They also left nails and garbage on the roof and in the backyard. They left a broken plastic tube that expels water from the furnace hanging over the side of the house where it was splashing onto us in the gangway. When I asked Nick on a Sunday to have someone come back and take a look at it he said someone would come look on Monday. I didn't hear from anyone until five days later on Saturday morning when Nick said he would come look at it. I told him I had already fixed it. To be clear, I think the tube got ripped in the storm damage, but they could have told me about it or at least not left it hanging over the side of the house if they weren't going to fix it. Communication was really bad too. They came out right before a downpour on a Monday and had to pause work in the middle of that. They were then going to come back the next day, but then told me later they would come back Friday. Nick told me his guy would come Friday morning possibly before 8am. I was surprised to have JR on my porch and calling me at 6:10am. I've never had a contractor show up that early and told him I couldn't disturb the 2nd floor tenants that early. JR said he would be back at 1pm. He came back at 8:55am instead without explanation and expected to be let in. When Nick and company failed to show up to address the plastic tubing situation, he said he felt bad and wanted to make it up to me. I told him he could send me back $100 for my time and effort addressing issues related to the roof job. I spent 2-3 hours of my time addressing roof issues (tubing and roof hatch), going to Menards, and spent money on a handyman. He has yet to reply and that was three days ago. The price was decent, but I very much feel like I got what I paid for and had to pay extra in both my time and money to remediate the project. I would not hire them again.

Needless to say, most weren't interested I guess, because several didn't show up after making appointments or when they did their quotas were ridiculously high. Eduardo of Eagle Roofing & Masonry was by far the most professional and responsive contractor I've ever dealt with and I'm a Director of Operations for a high rise! Most importantly, after completing the project, there were a couple of minor issues, but Eduardo was more than happy to come back and take care of them. When I let Eduardo know, he went back and forth with me via text for about 39 minutes saying I used salt on the concrete. That was it, he took no accountability, just that I used salt and ruined my own walkway I spent thousands on. He then offered to see it in person (which he should have just said in the first place) and told me over and over I used salt during the winter. Anyone who knows me knows that I wouldn't use salt and in fact have been using sand. He asked to see the bag, I brought it up and then he said, I was using salt. He then asked how many people live in the building (not important, the city sidewalk doesn't look like this, neither does the walkway in the back, which is decades old). It was really weird and he took absolutely no accountability for what might have happened, as I only stated the work was not aging well. He just kept saying he did a good job, etc and that I used salt. After all of that, he said he could fix it (sir, you should have led with that). The price he gave was high and ultimately I didn't think I should have to pay more for work that didn't really hold up after 2.5 years. So just know if you get concrete work and it looks bad after a few years, he'll blame you over and over before finally offering an expensive solution.
