We have been going to Maru Sushi for the last few years. The owners have changed a few times and so did the quality of the food. One of our favorite meals is tempura. A few days ago we had ordered a large plate of tempura for over $17. This was a mixture of fish, calamari and our favorite - the vegetable tempura. It's almost embarrassing how they slice the already super-thin piece of a potato into tiny pieces. So instead of having a nice large piece of a yam or potato tempura, you get four tiny potato tempuras. How cheap can you get? The batter didn't want to stick on one side while the other side was globbed up with thick crusty and messy dough. When we picked it up it was feather-light. What are we paying for here? read more

EXCELLENT! We ordered take-out for Xmas Eve 2020 and every dish was FRESH, well prepared and thoughtful. Their Covid precautions are top notch and I felt very safe during my short wait for our order. Maru is now our take-our sushi location of choice. ありがとうございました read more

Don't get me wrong, I don't think the sushi was bad, but it wasn't anything to write home about. Maybe it's because I live in Vancouver, and have access to so many amazing sushi restaurants, but I found thia place just average and about double the prices of what I'm use to. One thing I was amazed by was the salad we ordered. Average and overpriced is my final statement about this place. read more

Best sushi in town. But... Just be aware of their online/phone in order time. They have gone from 'on time' to '15 mins later' and now I am waiting 30 mins after they said it was going to be ready. I would consider this restaurant to be just average for a vegan and sushi. The atmosphere, location, and setting are all 5 stars. The food was just ok. Their best item in my order was the veggie sonomono salad. Good presentation and flavour, but they didn't incorporate the veggies at all into the dish, and they were stale. The miso soup was ok. The vegetable roll was pretty spartan, and the rice very dry. A couple had to beg for the server to come over to their table after waiting for at least 10 minutes. We were the only customers there, though they were working on a number of take aways. I would not be likely to return or to recommend them. Sorry. My rating is actually 2.5. read more

Just tried this place for the first time.. The special rolls we got were really yummy but the basic rolls were not very good. The yam roll was like rubber. The service was ok, the waitress brought our food and never came back. The next time I'm in Chilliwack I won't try this place again. read more

Nothing wrong with the food but the service is a little lacking. They don't come and check on you and they tend to forget things a lot. I do enjoy the restaurant. The atmosphere is nice and warm feeling. It's in a great location. read more

One of my favorite sushi places anywhere... love coming to the west coast and finding decent real crab sushi in a small town mall sushi restaurant. Most of Ontario sushi joints use the fake crab-flavoured replacements. Loads of seating here, friendly staff, ample menu options and we'll presented. The price point is not unreasonable and overall I'd come again, and I plan to the next time I visit the Wack! read more

I almost didn't go here because some of the other Yelp reviews weren't great, but it was within walking distance of my hotel so I did. And I'm glad I did! The food was DELICIOUS. I had the lunch box and it was gorgeous. The portions were much more than adequate and the food was excellent. The tempura was crisp and hot, and the chicken teriyaki was steamy an grilled to perfection over stir fry with a side of perfect steamed rice. The salad and the sashimi were cool and artfully displayed. The spring roll was crispy and fresh and the miso soup, perfect. The decor was modern and classy, and the music was soothing. The service was prompt and friendly. The waitresses seemed genuinely glad to be there and were dressed very nicely. The place was packed, which is always a good sign, but that didn't affect the speed of service. My meal came in less than 10 minutes after I ordered. They even had a few awards in display that they received from getting great local reviews. The price for the lunch box ($14) was slightly more than I'd usually pay for a lunchbox, but the amount and quality of the iOS more than made up for it. The only negative thing that I have to say is that either the table I was at was awkwardly high or the bench seat was a little low, and something made the sitting seem a little off. I felt like a kid sitting at an adult table eating. But it was only slightly so, and the food and service was so great that who cares. I'm from Vancouver and have been having sushi all my life, so I like to think that I know a good sushi joint when I see one. And I will for sure come here again next time I'm in Chilliwack! read more

Just moved into the area and looking for restaurants. Happy to say that we've found our "go to" Japanese Restaurant. Went last night for a late dinner with my daughter and we were pleasantly surprised. We had Prawn tempura and Chicken Teriyaki. Both were really good, especially the Teriyaki. This is the best Korean restaurant that I've been to in metro Vancouver. Quality of food is amazing. Especially I highly recommend the spicy seafood noodle soup and I can say that it's much better than most restaurants in Korea... really impressive...also service was great and the restaurant was clean... Maru is consistently delicious. My new favourite item is Dinner Box A - so much food, and great value for the price! Yum!

We ordered a take-out meal by phone and were told to come and pick it up in 20 minutes. We arrived on time but, in fact, the staff had somehow "lost" our order, and then proceeded to tell us that we had not called it in. What - did I hallucinate the phone call?! I don't think so! Anyway, we had to wait another 20 minutes for them to make up a new order. What a mistake. We should have just left when they declared our order to be lost/missing/not even ordered. The food was expensive and barely average. I am fussy about sushi - after all, one is consuming raw fish - and found there to be a strong fishy taste which was disagreeable. One thing I know from decades of eating sushi is that it shouldn't smell overly fishy - a strong sign the fish is not fresh. Would not eat here again. read more
