Tea, water and menus were brought to the table promptly. Our server was very pleasant and took very good care of us. I ordered tempura udon and my husband had the tempura appetizer. Both of our meals were very good. I liked the broth in the udon. It was very flavourful. The tempura came on the side and consisted of 3 good sized shrimp, potato, carrot and acorn squash. Our server topped up our tea and water and checked on us to ensure that we had everything we required. Considering the quality of the food, service and portion sizes the prices were very reasonable. When we left even the chef at the back called out and thanked us for our business. I have no hesitation in recommending Sui Sha Ya.

The donburi was terrific; the chicken was crispy and savoury, the rice was admirably good and the teriyaki sauce was potent in sweet flavour and help tied everything together. The house special was spectacular, it had everything you wanted in sushi, literally rolled into one. The miso soup that came with the entrees was a soothing side to have. The service was great. The staff was courteous and very quick when they came with my food in what felt like minutes after I ordered. The restaurant's ambiance was quite calming and like some of the décor such as the potted plants and the cat banners. Overall, this is a great Japanese restaurant and would very much like to come back there soon. My only regret is that I did not go there sooner.

Extremely disappointing experience -- not family-friendly…read more We went out for dinner tonight as a family and were very disappointed by the way we were treated by one of the staff members. We had our young toddler with us, who was having a particularly challenging evening. Like most toddlers, he was reaching for things on the table and at one point grabbed a plastic miso spoon and banged it against a plastic cup. This lasted approximately 5-6 seconds before we were able to take it away from him. We were right there the entire time and were actively trying to manage him. The woman working at the till, who had been staring at our table for much of the meal, then came over and angrily reprimanded us, telling us to "be careful with everything" and to "control the baby." We understand that restaurants need customers to respect their property, and we were absolutely doing our best to keep our child from disrupting anything. But approaching paying customers in an angry and condescending manner over something so minor was completely unnecessary. Having a toddler who is having a difficult moment is stressful enough without a staff member publicly embarrassing and reprimanding the parents. There are much more respectful ways to address a concern with a customer. We were spending over $100 on dinner and simply wanted to enjoy a family meal. Instead, we left feeling embarrassed and unwelcome. What was particularly disappointing was that we were already dealing with the situation ourselves and didn't need someone standing over us and telling us how to parent our child. Unfortunately, this interaction completely changed our impression of the restaurant. We won't be returning, and we would not recommend this establishment to families with young children.

I have had weird cravings lately for Unagi, so I've been eating it everywhere to try and find…read moresomewhere to order it from on a regular basis. Sadly, it won't be from Sushi Yama. They had a few issues in their food. The tamago nigiri was tasty enough, and I've never had to say this before, but there wasn't enough rice! The tamago flopped over on all sides, and needed more rice as a texture and flavor break. The Unagi bowl itself was okay, good amount of rice and veggies for the cost, but the eel itself was slimy and rubbery. I know from experience this isn't what it is supposed to be like. The inside is cute, it's a shame everything was put away for COVID, but it's also a shame they aren't following COVID rules either. Two customers without masks, whom the employees were quite familiar and friendly with, which didn't exactly improve my overall review of the restaurant.

Despite how busy it was when I came to eat and the waiter pointing out the extended time for the food, the service was really great and I did not find myself waiting long at all. I also had the Unagi Donburi for my main course, and it was perfection. The unagi meat was piquant and succulent, the rice was great, and I even like the mango pieces it came with. The service was very considerate, especially during the busy haul. The waiter served me whenever I needed it and even replaced my chopsticks when I dropped one of them. The interior design of the restaurant is memorable; it had blossoms hung up and TVs playing Jpop music videos. I highly recommend Kojan for the great Sushi and Korean food.
