Is good! Very nice place. I've been looking for a Korean restaurant at palm springs. Very good service and good cold water!

Meal was good. We had the pancake, fried squid, kimchi stew, soon tofu, and dolsot bibimbap. All the food was well made and seasoned. (I am a native but opted to use English spellings because of autocorrect). Nice touch was the barley tea. Service was slow because there just isn't enough wait staff. This is my family's favorite Korean bbq place. We come here every time we're in town. It's great food, and great service. When we do the bbq we always get the beef bagolgi, it's very good. The pork belly and the pork bagolgi are also great as well. It's so nice that we can get sides and rice when we order from the bbq menu. You also have the option to not do the bbq and you can order from the entree menu. The ramen is very tasty. I'm so glad my family found this place and we can't wait to come back again! read more

Large portions on their lunch menu, and from what I could tell, there was quite a variety on the dinner menu. First time I laughed at first bite. We walked in at about 6 pm on a Wednesday night. The place was pretty empty, we were greeted right away. We ordered the chadol and LA Galbi, and the waitress brought out the banchan. I ate a bite of their kimchi and couldn't help but chuckle. What is this? What is this supposed to taste like? It was as if the kimchi was made by a non native following some recipe written by a non native korean cook. Ok pass. The other banchan were equally confusing, either too sour, too bland or way too salty. My mom didn't touch any of it until the end. The naengmyun was so obviously an instant packaged mess. Service was terrible... came to try this place on a Saturday night with my wife. She's never tried Korean food, so we were both really excited to check out the menu. Unfortunately, we never made it that far. We waited inside the front of the restaurant next to the "Please wait to be seated" sign for a solid 15 minutes. Not a single employee said "hi" or "we'll be right with you" or anything of that nature. They were decently busy, but nothing more than what I would think would be a normal Saturday service. This is such a treat. We had never had Korean barbecue. Extensive menu, very clean place (shiny!), we were the only Caucasians which we took to be a good sign. Really helpful waiter, a good bottle of wine (Beringer's) Pinot Gris for $18! All of us extremely impressed. read more

I visited Maru three times. I will say the food is great, but service is terrible. With each visit service got progressively worse. I'll break it down below. TL;DR terribly rude service overshadows the decent food. The owner should shut down and hang their heads in shame. First Visit: I went with a friend for dinner and we ordered chicken and a beef yakisoba plate which was great. The server, a young girl, was literally running around the restaurant. She appeared overwhelmed and we had to ask multiple times for basic things like napkins, chopsticks, a fork and sugar. She appeared annoyed with our requests, despite asking politely and only twice. Second Visit: We took a party of 7 and made a reservation for a table with a grill. We were seated and I asked the server (the same girl from the first visit) to explain how to order to the party because it was their first time. When it came time to order she kept correcting my family on how they were ordering. For instance, someone was pointing at a plate that was on the lunch and dinner menu and she would say no and flip the page to the dinner menu and point to the words there. We obviously knew the prices were different and lunch wasn't offered at 7pm. It didn't have to be done every single time. It was annoying and patronizing. The server didn't write anything down while we were ordering. When the order came we were missing at least one or two plates but we had waited so long and were treated rudely we just gave up at that point. I was embarrassed I had suggested this place to my family. We had 7 people and were given one of each side despite ordering multiple main dishes. We asked for 2 or 3 side dishes and we were told by the server that she had to ask the owner if she could do that. She came back and said "I'm sorry the owner said she you have to finish the side before we can give you more". 7 people were sharing 1 potato salad side the size of a persons palm smh. The server saw our displeasure and the owner came out and continued to serve us and was short with the entire party. Terrible. Third and Last Visit EVER: We (2 people) went in about 8:25pm and knew exactly what we wanted to order (two iced teas, teriyaki chicken and beef yakisoba). We waited to be seated and waited for our order to be taken by the usual server, the young girl running around every where and pleasing no one. After about 5 minutes she takes our drink order, we let her know we are ready to order at this time but she asks us to wait because another table needs something. She brings the drinks and quickly rushes off. She forgot our lemons, straws and sugar. Then she comes back 5 minutes later to take our order. We attempt to order the food we'd been craving all day but were interrupted about 2 times because she kept turning to talk to the table behind us. When the food comes the order is wrong. We politely tell her, she doesn't apologize for the mistake but rather makes it seem like we made the mistake. We know what we came for and what we wanted. It was already near closing time so we politely asked for to-go boxes for the correct part of the order and asked if we could get the incorrect order redone so we could leave. She said she would ask the owner. She left everything on the table. I didn't touch anything because I was so upset at her face and lack of acknowledgment of the mistake. We waited and waited I finally got up and had to locate her talking crap behind a curtain and asked to just have that meal taken off the check...she started to say she would have to ask for permission. I went to sit back down. I considered paying for the tea I sipped on but considering she gave me a soup cup as a to go cup, never brought a straw and never said sorry I got up and left the tea and uneaten incorrect order and terrible service. She ran into the parking lot and up to my car. I felt threatened. Maru can suck it...wait they may need to ask permission first. read more

We live in Cathedral City and rarely spend much time on the La Quinta side - more in Palm Springs side but one day happened to be at Ross with some friends and noticed Maru. I just about screamed with joy! Finally a Korean Restaurant in the valley!!! A friend was visiting so decided to try it out with much anticipation. Environment is pleasant and our server was very friendly and attentive. My husband ordered the dol sot bibimbap, I ordered the kimchee jigae and our friend ordered the soon tofu stew. The side dishes were mediocre and adequate - wasn't expecting anything like some Korean Restaurants in Los Angeles because we are NOT in L.A. I was just glad we even got the side dishes (ban chan). The dol sot bibimbap looked great, and my husband LOVED it. My kimchee jigae was okay but sure did hit the spot. The soon tofu stew looked great but was bit on the "too spicy" side - suggest if you order this dish that you specify the spicy level (most Korean restaurants give you a choice on the menu but Maru did not) or you will end up with quite spicy stew. Guess what - Maru is the BEST Korean Restaurant in the desert because it is the ONLY Korean Restaurant in the area!!!! So we are truly grateful that now we at least have ONE! If you want LA Korean quality food - go to LA! I know that when I am craving Korean Food that Maru will definitely hit the spot and satisfy the craving! My absolute favorite meal is bibim naeng myun (Korean cold spicy noodles). I was thrilled that I found a place in the desert that actually offers it. While you can never compare it to LA Korean food, I thought it was pretty good. The side dishes are a hit or miss. The first time I came, the kimchi was really tasty and fresh. I went with my seriously Korean friend who speaks little English, but of course fluently Korean. She said, the side dishes were ok, but the kimchee was very good, the soon duboo (soft tofu soup) was excellent, so all who shared the dish also shared this opinion! It tasted really good. We also had Ohjingeo Bokum (squid in hot sauce), which needed extra Korean (and Mexican) chili powder. Then it was very good also. The bulgogi was undermarinated and underspiced. Earlier bad reviews from some customers are unjustified now. The name Maru has the meaning of a common room in the house for family, friends and guests and is a very fitting and good choice for this welcoming restaurant. The service is friendly. We frequent many Korean BBQs, given that most of the family is Korean. So we know good BBQ... this NOT good BBQ. It took me going up to the counter to get a waitress. After 15 minutes, we got our drinks. There were only two tables to serve at the time. The beef was tough and the radish kimchi so salty it was inedible. My wife asked for greens to wrap her meat. They charged us 3 dollars for Romaine (supposed to be red leaf lettuce). When we asked for more.because it was wilted, we were told they were out. Never again ... read more
