Cynthia at the Scranton location cost my mother $200 in Lyft costs because she chose to be untrustworthy. One of my mother's travel bags was left on the bus coming from Philadelphia to Allentown, due to the bus driver detaching her two travel bags. A nice gentleman at the Scranton location named Mike retrieved her bag and put it away. He left detailed instructions for Cynthia to put the travel bag on the first bus the next morning, heading out of their location and to Allentown. My mother and I were to meet the bus and grab the bag. He also asked that Cynthia give us a call to let us know that the bag was on the bus and heading to the Allentown location. When we did not receive a call from Cynthia, we called her regarding the bag. As soon as my mother told her who she was, Cynthia disconnected the call. When we called back, Cynthia claimed that there was an issue with the phone and commenced to lie about why she didn't put the travel bag on the bus. She claimed to not know what was going on even after reading the instructions that were left for her by Mike. She claimed to have plans on calling but never called. She claimed to be in the middle of figuring out what she needed to do. She told my mother that she had to wait until the next day to get her bag. Cynthia clearly tried to hold the bag at her location an additional day. I'm sure she had plans on going through the bag and stealing something because she went out of her way to ensure the bag did get on the bus. We had to take a Lyft an hour away to get the travel bag. This company is horrible, so Cynthia will likely not be reprimanded for her shady behavior. read more

Martz bus such a rip-off! Take advantage of the locals since they got monopoly over transportation to/from New York - Scranton/Wilkes Barre. They have no competition and the Greyhound that have only one-two rides per day, and less than half price of Martz, but not good schedule in the day. Why is a rip-off? The price of Diesel for a bus for the distance of Wilkes-Barre to New York is $60. The price of a ticket is $69 one way Usual the bus is full so a bus full will make $2800 per ride X 10 rides (round trips), will make $28000 per day from one route. The price is ridiculous high for 120 miles. Conclusion: Martz doesn't care about you! Only to make tons of money off of you! read more

We had a great driver into NYC. On the return trip, as soon as the driver came on he said cell calls were prohibited unless it was an emergency. That made sense to the extent of not disturbing other passengers. However, he then said if he could hear you speaking you were too loud. We were sitting 1 seat behind him. He said many passengers worked all day (5:45 pm bus) and it was disrespectful to them if we were speaking. Absolutely ridiculous. We had to whisper to each other despite the fact that we paid the same amount as everyone else on the bus. read more

Overpriced as opposed to other bus companies for the same distance. They have no competition. When they went online for you to purchase tickets by reservation, they started charging a $4 surcharge plus raising the price by $13 so now it's $17 more. One way is $65. WiFi never works. Port for chargers has never worked for me. I just got an email response from customer service. They got rid of Wi-Fi. No plans on bringing it back. The Hampton Jitney from New York City to the Hamptons is $45. Its the same distance to Scranton. It's a premium service with Wi-Fi. I hope they bring the train back and give them competition. I did a google search and greyhound offers buses from port authority to Scranton for $29 one way direct. That's more than half the price. Another called Flixbus is $29 direct as well. Both have Wi-Fi. I will be taking them instead of Martz when I have the opportunity. read more

2/1/24- the bus driver refused to put on any type of air. There was no air blowing from the top, foot, or sides of the bus. No air circulation what so ever. Since Martz has taken over my bus route #735 (bus 15) the buses have been late EVERYDAY!!!!! The drivers are more invested in their personal conversations on their cellphone than getting us riders to our stops on time. It's no reason why we should be getting to our stop 1 hour after the expected arrival time. Keller bus drivers are more professional and punctual. They also know short cuts. Martz drivers need to be trained by Keller bus drivers because this isn't it. Half of the riders on my bus have started to carpool and drive due to these Martz drivers being late everyday. I have never had an issue with this company until today. All previous trips i had were pleasant. The bus driver, unsure of her name, caused the trip to have a miserable start. She immediately started yelling at my group and other passengers telling us that "the rules are no taking" and threatened to remove passengers from the bus....simply for "talking" when neither I nor others were aware of any disturbance. There was no true disturbance on the bus, as any and all taking was done in a low tone and no passengers were bothered or expressed dissatisfaction with talking. The driver targeted two women in the bus who were not disturbing anyone, and she asked them if they'd like to exit the bus about a half hour into the trip. Her tone was disrespectful, totally unprofessional, and all other passengers were visibly disturbed and upset by the driver and no other passengers. After picking up passengers in Stroudsburg, she again scolded all passengers and made a comment that she will drive slow since everyone "wants to talk" on the bus. This really needs to be addressed. The service is decent but like most regional busses, there aren't enough departure times. Busses are usually messy with smelly bathroom. They claim to offer wifi but it hasn't worked for me on any bus in 5 yrs. The drivers never know what to do about it. Not convent for business travelers. No mask rule enforced during covid. People walked onto the bus with the mask worn as a chin strap and were allowed to enter that way so they never had to actually pull it up for the whole ride. As a regional bus line Martz is pretty decent. The number of buses they run daily is pretty large so there is always a way to get home or away as one would have it. The location in Port Authority could be a little better and have the tickets handles locally rather than by the Trailways office on the first floor but that's ok. The signage has improved much with clear schedules posed by the gates, which wasn't the case for quite some time. So with schedules changing as they are (and they have been for awhile) schedule postings help a lot. read more

If I could give a negative I would. They had my boyfriend arrest for credit card fraud, only to realize that they had the wrong person. My boyfriend has a very common name. All they had to do was verify the credit card or his identity. Instead everyone was disrespectful and treated us like we're low life criminals, assumed the worst, never once stopping to do their due diligence. Worst company ever. Terrible costumer service. They sold 9 extra tickets for a 11:35am and would not get an extra bus as they didn't have any room. They asked us to gather 15people to get another bus that was available on site with a driver. The employees on site kept avoiding the questions and made us wait until 12.30pm which was the next bus giving no guarantee of the seats available on the next one. When we made them aware that we had another bus from New York City and no one gave us any response. Basically they don't feel any responsibility towards their customers. I've used Martz few times over the last few years, going from New York to East Stroudsburg and back. They're decent but seemed to have gotten worse lately. First of all, the round-trip ticket is now ~$60, which I find to be on a high side. For 2 people, it's ~$120 and comparing to travelling to the city by car, if we consider ~$30 on gas and ~$50 on full-day parking, it comes up to be way cheaper by car (if you have a car of course). Another problem is that the bus is often late by anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes. But the worst part is the lines / buses availability. Last time I came to the 9pm bus at ~8:45, going from New York, and the line was so big half of the people didn't fit. Everyone was obviously pissed and we had to wait another hour until 10pm for the next bus (which was packed full again). Then, literally the next day, we come to take a bus to New York at 2:20pm. We're 10 minutes early, and there are only ~10 people in the line before us. Not only does the bus come at 2-freaking-36, only 5 people fit in it! The huge line that gathered behind us and all the people before are just left standing there again. At that moment, they send an extra bus at 3:15, which arrives at... 3:45. Imagine being someone who comes at 2pm and has to stand in line until 3:45 just to leave that damn place. I understand they can't accommodate everyone and shit happens, but this is by far not the 1st time, so be aware of possible "fun" scenarios like that. Oh, and I wish they'd stop blasting AC so much when it's not even hot outside. I have to wear a jacket and it's still blowing freeze right at you! read more

Martz is garbage. They have a monopoly on direct transportation between NYC and the poconos and they milk that for all its worth. Round trip tickets are now nearly $75 per person. The schedules are erratic. They sell unlimited tickets for any given bus, with no assigned seating. It's just first come first served. I bought tickets for a 10am bus. Got to the gate at 9:30 to find the line already halfway down the terminal, and I had to take the 10:30 am instead. It's insane to have to line up for a bus I paid a ridiculous amount of money for an hour or more in advance just make sure I actually get on the bus I paid for and planned on taking. Screw you, Martz for being so shameless with your money grubbing. If you're going to have astronomically high prices, at the very least allow passengers to reserve seats so they don't have to waste so much of their time lining up. Unless their policy changes, I'm done with Martz. It's so expensive at this point that if you're traveling with more than one person, it makes more sense to just rent a car. The NJ transit trains also go pretty far Into New Jersey, so if someone doesn't mind driving an extra 15 minutes to pick you up from/drop you off at the train station, take that instead. read more

I wish I could give them negative stars. We chartered 2 buses for our wedding which cost $1800. I had multiple calls with the team to confirm timing and locations of pickup and drop off of the guests. The night of the wedding the buses were 1. late to the pickup locations and 2. missed the drop off location which caused guests to be an hour late to the wedding. As if that wasn't enough, one of the buses crashed into a tree completely shattering the windows and forcing guests to WALK to the venue. Of course I was furious so I waited a few days to calm down and called the sales office to discuss what had happened. I left 3 voicemails over a 2 week period and never received a call back. Finally, I emailed the sales representative and he responded saying he was sorry to hear what had happened and he wanted to offer a $50 credit. Really? It takes a lot to get me angry but this service was absolutely terrible. read more

There isn't much to say about a bus service, but after reading the horror stories about Greyhound, I have to say that Martz is pretty good. I was on a martz nyc bus sept. 14. Rebecca the bus driver on bus1314 was a total disgrace to the Martz Bus company. the minute she left the terminal she told the bus she wouldn't tolerate talking unless it was low and brief. She claimed there were commuters who needed to sleep. I can't explain the undo stress for the next 2 hours as she stopped the bus at a commuter parking lot to threaten to kick people off for talking, wouldn't leave the water gap stop because people were talking. Later she put her hazards on to creep on the interstate saying she didn't care what time we arrived.. I can only tell you about the anxiety each time I heard the clicking of the hazards 4+times ! Finally when we pulled into port authority people sang and cheered that we got there safely. She had serious issues and should be removed. sadly it was reported by Channel 16 that she was back driving the next day to terrorize her next captive audience! So lets just say that I dont use Martz all the time. A few times a year I make the trip to NYC from the Penna burbs. The bus leaves out of the terminal and is prompt, clean, comfy and if all else fails its got a toilet. Wish I could give 0 stars. I purchased a bus ticket leaving Wilkes-Barre on Dec. 13 traveling to New York. The bus not only neglected to pay attention to changing traffic patterns (I could see on my phone's GPS that we could have avoided 1+hour of traffic by taking another route), but we were hit by another bus just before going into the Lincoln Tunnel. Though I understand these situations unfortunately occur, the way in which the driver handled the situation (or rather failed to address it) was not only unprofessional but unacceptable. The driver did not alert any of the passengers what was going on or what to expect. Passengers were getting off the bus into Ubers, again right before the Lincoln Tunnel on a 5+ lane highway because of the lack of communication. No announcements were made regarding protocol for these situations or how long passengers can expect to be delayed. I had to go to the front of the bus to speak with the driver and ask what was happening and ONLY THEN did he get on the intercom to make an announcement regarding the accident and police arrival. This is unacceptable and certainly warrants a refund for this portion of the trip. Not only did it cause a 2 hour delay, it was a severe breech of safety. I reached out to the Director of Safety who has ceased communication with me and does not seem to understand or truly care about the safety of the passengers. read more

Bus broke down, it will take an hour for them to send another bus for us. Their service has been declining since 2015 when they started taking up their prices. It is up to $80 per round trip, just not worth it. Polonez is another option, more affordable, but the hours are limited. There needs to be better travel solutions for travel to and from PA. Why would you overbook your bus by nearly 20 people? It makes no sense from a business perspective - you inconvenience people and lose your customer base. Need a better reservation method! This is a very convenient way to get from NY Port Authority to Mt. Pocono, PA where families with small kids and teenagers can enjoy the waterparks in the area. The bus leaves on-time and either arrives on-time or ahead of time. It only took us 1.5 hours to get to Mt. Pocono on a Saturday but 2 hours to get back to the NY Port Authority on a Sunday due to traffic. My 11 year old child and I took the Martz Trailways (Tel. 1-800-233-8604) bus trip of 1.5 to 2 hours (depending on traffic) from the NY Port Authority to Mt. Pocono bus stop for $109.90 round trip ($36 for a child and $73.25 for an adult). The bus stop is small and taxis are not waiting there so you have to call a taxi company 30 minutes to 1 hour before your bus arrives at Mt. Pocono bus top to pick you up and take you to one of the waterparks in the area (Kalahari, Great Wolf Lodge, Camelback Resort or Aquatopia). It is a short 15 to 20 minute taxi ride at the cost of $10 with Poconos taxi company (1-877-570-8294) to the Kalahari Resort (Tel. 1-855-356-9208). You could also call the hotel and arrange for the shuttle to pick you up and they would charge you $10 per person. - Update - Now Martz is offering round-trip transportation directly to any of the above mentioned waterparks so it is easier to get to them. On the way back, I had to go to the bathroom and we missed the bus back from Camelback Resort to NY by 2 minutes since we weren't standing outside but were waiting inside. Do stand outside so the bus driver sees you since he doesn't wait but arrives and leaves at 11:10 a.m. Fortunately, the driver of the next Martz bus who was dropping off passengers at Camelback Resort and his co-driver were kind enough to take us to Mt. Pocono bus stop where Aura, the friendly lady at the ticket booth said we didn't have to worry but could take the next bus to NY leaving in 15 minutes. They were all very kind and provided us with excellent customer service. read more
