So glad we didn't take a long bus ride with all the tourists to Bouchard Gardens, the gardens and parks just a half a mile from the port are so beautiful and a lovely way to spend the afternoon! We love biking, but didn't even think about biking for this port stop with the port being so far from businesses. When we saw VBR conveniently posted in the port, we were ecstatic! Renting bikes from them was such an easy and quick process. No time was wasted whatsoever..within minutes of introductions, we were on the bikes fully geared up and exploring! We were able to see so much more than on foot or by car. We rode along the bike path along the coast, through a park, by the Parliament, and to Bastion Square. We went to an historical pub and watched the fireworks with the locals. Then a quick shortcut back by the landmarks, and a quick bike return with a proper farewell. We were able to squeeze in as much culture as is possible in 2 hours thanks to VBR, and it was amazing. Thanks...you're a lifesaver and breath of fresh air!

The next week I went in. The guy fixing my bike was also selling the high priced bikes. My bike was due to be finished and waited 30 minutes While the kid ran back and forth . Poor service I had to take my bike back because the brakes did not work after being fixed. I dreaded the brow beating but needed my bike fixed. No apologies only Tim's snarky remarks. After telling the young guy I will wait. Tim spoke up "We cannot always fix it on the spot" was uncalled for after I had brought my bike back from last weeks repair job. Meanwhile other customers were bringing tires to the front desk Adjusting there cleats ext. Again 30 minute wait while sales are juggled. Kenny, "The owner" response to Maggie G's review is false. She went in and saw a bike for sale…read morethat she was potentially interested in purchasing and sat on it only to get talked down to and yelled at. Nothing was broken, no bike was rolled away with, Kenny just needs to take a class or read a book or two on customer service. Shortly before she came in I was in the store looking to rent a bike. I came in with the intention of renting at 2:30 on a Tuesday and returning 10:00 am on Thursday around 44 hours. So I asked if he could give me a potential discount and he basically laughed in my face and said no, we only do calendar day rentals. So $72 a day, which is ridiculous because the other local bike store rentals for $45 a day for a similar bike. For 3 days, there is a 3 day discount of $24 off equalling $192, still ridiculous for 44 hours. They did have ten or so identical bikes outside so Kenny must be a trust fund baby or something just leaving business out there. Neither of us got a welcoming experience or any type of feeling of hospitality or simply want to have us in the store. I recommend Lopez kayaks and bicycle works just down the road, completely different experience. The only reason we didn't is they weren't open for the season yet. Id rather walk the island than rent from Village Cycles.

About 2 miles from the top of Constitution, my motor seized up and I was in a really tight spot. I coasted back down to the campground and started putting water on the hub to cool it down, but it was already shot. The problem was, I was solo and didn't know anybody on the island. I called multiple businesses and taxis, but no pick up or responses. I left a message with Wildlife Cycles, thinking they may have a solution for a way to get my E-bike and I back to the ferry terminal, which was about 16 miles away. Hell, the closest hotel was in East Sound, a couple of hours walking a bike on a narrow road. With the sun getting lower on the horizon, my last resort was hitchhiking, to which a lovely local couple, and fellow bike riders, picked me up and gave me a ride all the way back to the ferry terminal. Within that time, Wildlife Cycles texted me back!!! Mind you they were the only response that I got from the entire island. The gentleman explained that he was off island, but asked me what my current situation was and what my plans were. I informed him about the ride I had got and how I no longer needed his assistance. Think about it, I didn't do any business with Wildlife Cycles, as I had my own E-bike, but yet they still reached out to help a bicyclist in need. I have no doubt if I still needed a ride, they would have 100% figured out a way. This small interaction speaks VOLUMES about how they run their business and who they employ. Hats off to Wildlife Cycles!
