The guy fixing my bike was also selling the high priced bikes. My bike was due to be finished and waited 30 minutes While the kid ran back and forth . Poor service I had to take my bike back because the brakes did not work after being fixed. I dreaded the brow beating but needed my bike fixed. No apologies only Tim's snarky remarks. After telling the young guy I will wait. Tim spoke up "We cannot always fix it on the spot" was uncalled for after I had brought my bike back from last weeks repair job. Meanwhile other customers were bringing tires to the front desk Adjusting there cleats ext. Again 30 minute wait while sales are juggled. The bike came from California. And the box it came in was damaged. The staff at Skagit Cycle inspected it, it was fine. The reason it was shipped to Skagit Cycle in the first place was I live on an island. To ship it to the island would've been cost prohibitive. All is well, and I have a bike to ride as well. I chose Skagit Cycle Center in Anacortes to perform routine maintenance, and also effect needed repairs on my monster electric Hai Bike Fat Six. It is a complex bike. Everything from intake to delivery was perfect. The bike now rides better than when it was new. Sweet. During intake, Tim diagnosed the problem I was having with my brakes - showing and explaining exactly the problem. Mid-maintenance, Kevin gave me a call and explained options regarding some repair around chain and cassette that I had requested when scheduling. His explanation was lucid and when I asked for advice, he offered it - I went with his advice. Little details like aligning brake levers speak of the craftsmanship behind their mechanical knowledge and skill. I could tell that the bike had been treated with care. Pricing was transparent and fair. They helped me both unload and load the heavy bike out-of/in-to the car. As you can tell, Skagit Cycle Center People exceeded my expectations. read more

This shop is conveniently located in one of the stepping off places for a San Juan Island bike tour. Shipping your bike is not always convenient. My then fiance and I rented a road tandem from SCC last summer. It was Brand New. They gladly added a rack for our panniers, and cages for our bottles. I bought 2 bicycles in the $700 range (per) from this store in 2009. I couldn't have had a better experience. I wish every business was ran this well. -First, they can (and do) happily answer any question you can ever think of in regards to bicycling (bikes, gear, trailers, gadgets, trails, you-name-it). -Second, they won't try to sell you what you don't need. They patiently take the time to understand what your needs are, what you expect, what you want, how you will be riding, where you will be riding, your body and your budget to determine what bike will fit you and your riding style best. I truly believe they want you to be a satisfied customer the day you leave and for the remainder of your ownership. -Third, this is a family owned business and it's ran that way. Read as: your treated as a friend, not a number. And they really care about you. -Fourth, they take care of you AFTER your purchase too! I've taken our bikes in a few times before big rides, and they went over them thoroughly, tightening and inspecting everything before our trip to be sure we would have an enjoyable ride... free of charge every time. Wow. -Fifth, the staff is great. From sales to service, they are really cool people who are passionate about their business and their hobby. -Sixth, I expected to pay a premium by not going to a big box store. I was wrong. Not only where they NOT overpriced, they actually were cheaper AND threw in a bunch of free stuff. And yes, I did my research first, I know how much things cost. I even debated purchasing our bikes in Canada as it was the cheapest route, until I found this quality business. Since I've been a customer I soon learned how reputable this company is. They have customers from all over the state and beyond, and they are very well known and highly spoken of. I'm glad I found them and I will always come back for all my cycling needs. During our 3 week van trip I ran into an issue with my Reverb dropper seat post on my mountain bike so I stopped in to see if they could service it. Unfortunately one of their service techs called in sick so they couldn't get me in right away but they referred me up the road to the Bike Spot, their competitor, who was able to help. Good drop in service, and fast. I got a flat tire from seashells while crossing the mudflats on the Tommy Thompson causeway. And when I finally made it to Skagit Bike shop on foot, they took it right in and replaced the inner tube while I waited...only 10 or 15 minutes. When I bought a new bike there a couple months ago, they switched all the gadgets from old bike to new at no charge, saving me hours of fiddling around. Husband and I were looking to purchase our first ~adult~ bikes, and Gary not only took the time to help us select great bikes at our price point, but also answered every question we had. The bike I ended up getting wasn't in store at this location, so Gary went above and beyond by checking their warehouse then going to the Burlington store to find it. He also delivered both bikes plus the bike rack we purchased down to Oak Harbor (where we live), assembled the rack, and installed it for us -- he definitely didn't have to do that! Not only were we impressed with their customer service, but we're also very happy with the bikes we bought. The best customer service I have had the pleasure of experiencing. My hubby and I bought road bikes here and were very well satisfied with our purchase. We got most of our gear here as well and the service was just outstanding and the price for work on your bike beats doing the work yourself, hands down!! We found out about a month after we bought our road bikes that we'd be moving to a more urban landscape and wouldn't be able to use our bikes as we do here. We called the shop and the owner gave us options. First was to re-fit the bikes with higher gears, different price levels and quality levels. He also gave us the option of buying back our bikes. In the end we went with him buying back our bikes and traded in for new with higher gears. Throughout the whole process (two weeks of back and forth and research), they were awesome. I know I would have been tired of me by then!! They have truly outstanding customer service and strive to make you happy to get you in the bike you need. I am def going leaving my skagit cycle sticker on my bike so of anyone ever asks, I can share the awesomeness with them. I purchased an electric recumbent and the store delivered it to me, no charge, in Coupeville. it turned out that the bike wasn't what i really wanted, so Skagit not only let me exchange for a different recumbent, but delivered the new bike, and picked up the other with no charge and full credit against the exchange bike. I am in town for 3 days to ride and my derailer isn't shifting properly and most bike shops would say " it'll be ready in 3 days" but not Skagit Cycle. The owner immediately put it on the rake and 10 minutes later and for $6 it was working great. Now that's great customer service!!! Also, the store is well stocked with everything you might need. Just purchased a womens giant bike from Skagit Cycle and I am very pleased with my buy. They staff was extremely knowledgeable about the bikes that they carried and guided me through the process of what exactly I was looking for. Compared to other new bike shops in the area, I felt like it was a reasonable price that I bought it for and I know that I will be keeping it around for awhile. They also offer a free tune up to use within a year of getting the bike which is quite nice as well as 10% off other merchandise within the store for a year! Overall place is great! read more

Great bike shop! My wife and I were up in Anacortes for a the weekend and brought our mountain bikes to ride the cranberry lake trails. When we arrived I realized I needed new disc brake pads for my bike. The staff were knowledgeable, super friendly, took time to explain how to swap the pads with the tools I had. Later that day I realized I had bought the wrong pads, and swung back by the shop. Liz recognized me, and swapped the pads for me in seconds-- no paperwork, or hassle. I have an old bike, a geezer in bike years, but since I was able to attain human geezer status myself, we were good friends for years. Like me, my bike needed surgery, just like when my knee joints needed replacement, so I took it this bike shop. After pointing out the discrepancies in my old friend, the shop foreman declined to give me an estimate for the one repair I was there to address (chain skipping on the cassette) and went on to detail the other issues that didn't bother me. It sounded to me like he wanted to make my old friend into a beauty contest winner and all I wanted was for the chain to stop skipping. Then I was told that I was required to take the bike bike away and call for a reservation. I asked why couldn't leave it and get a call me with an estimate. "No, you have to make a reservation", which would involve another trip for my old friend and perhaps an estimate that would have paid for an entirely new bike, and maybe, a charge for the estimate, if I didn't take on the repairs. So, I'll fix it myself, and maybe arrange to be buried with it. read more

Going the Extra Mile! Recently took a cycling trip from Seattle to Anacortes, Washington in order to ride around the San Juan Islands and take advantage of all the incredible offerings of the area. Upon arrival in Anacortes, i popped a spoke on a trial ride making my bike unridable. In trouble, i was pleasantly surprised that another rider on the trial kindly stopped to offer me help. It turned out that he (Gary) owned the local bike shop and suggested that i have his bike mechanic see what he could do. What they did was way more than i ever expected. My rim was in pretty bad shape and i questioned if it could even be salvaged. Gary and his team understood my predicament (on holiday and hoping to cycle the San Juan Islands in the morning) and offered both a short term solution (loaning me a replacement wheel from his own daughters' bike at no charge), and a longer one (working with my wheel to extract the broken nipple and find a replacement spoke suitable for my bike). Honestly, these guys were simply amazing and absolutely saved my holiday. In 25 years of cycling all across this country, i've never had a better, more positive experience than with Gary and Skagit Cycle. They are the best there is! Period. Gary went to great lengths to try to fix the problem, then went to great lengths to find me a new part. And then he charged me very little. I was doing an overnight tour on Orcas Island, and Skagit Cycle had no problem with renting bikes overnight. The bikes we got were of better quality than any rental bikes we've ever ridden before, and well maintained. They even had racks and kickstands. Service was great, everything went smoothly. Maybe a little more expensive than others, but worth it. read more

These guys were awesome - I came in to have them check my brakes, and they not only tightened them up, but trued the spokes on my wheel - all for no charge! I highly recommend stopping in if you're on a ride, or even coming in for a tuneup before a ride - I know that's what I will do next time! read more

This is a small bike shop. I ordered my bike rack and shortly after I place my order I received an email saying that they will let me know the status of my order in 48 hours. Well ... 72 hours later no email, probably after 10 -15 phone calls finally someone answer and told me they will be contacting me to let me know the status of my order. No answer again, finally I send and email cancelling my order because I found another rack 2 hours away. After that email I had a response email, stating the they deliver the rack the day before, I already drove 2 hours and have the other bike rack in my hands. Well I decided to wait for their rack. It's been almost 2 weeks and no rack, UPS claimed they did not send that rack the day the bike shop claim they did, at the end of the day I have to borrow a rack for my race. Who's lying here UPS or the bike shop, most likely the bike place because UPS would delivered as fast as you paid and the service delivery you choose. Lessons learned. Choose a reliable big chain store. read more
