Thomas (an experience guide and scientist) was a godsend for me and my friends and our last minute trip to the "islands." No not the Hawaiian islands, but the gem of the Pacific Northwest, aka the San Juan Islands. Granted we were staying in the off-season, first week of October, but like the lighthouse at Kiln Point, Thomas was a beacon of light shining bright over all others in the area. His service was top notch and professional, Covid safe to boot. He was very accommodating and his hours of operation were much welcomed given the unreliability of the WA ferries, throw your hands up if you know what I'm talking about, if you don't just know that if you plan on island hopping, which we did for the 5 days we spent on San Juan Island, the ferry WBL "will be late!" In our case Thomas is located on San Juan Island, we decided to bike ride on Lopez Island, and upon calling Thomas, he had our bikes ready within the hour, waiting for us after our short 3 minute drive from our hotel in Friday Harbor. We parked our car at his property for the entire day, but you can also walk from Friday harbor in 10 minutes, and there is an option for bike to be dropped off in town if needed. He was open from 8am-8pm, we all had awesome ebikes with gear, helmets, maps, points of interest, locks, xtra tubes and tires, pumps, insulated packs and much more (see photo). Quick credit card payment and brief orientation and then we were off for the entire day riding a quick 5 minutes into town and onto the ferry for Lopez Island! The bikes were top notch and easy to use and zipped us all around safely and efficiently. We all had at least 30% charge left on our ebikes after the entire day use which started at 10:30am and did not end until return at 8:45pm. (See late ferry above, which Thomas was extremely flexible with as we stayed in touch via text.) I would highly recommend Thomas and the bikes he provides. He has it all. Opt outside and you won't go wrong with Cycle San Juan! Get in the game and get out there!

It was just after noon when I was on the False Creek Seawall approaching Science. I needed lunch and a cold drink and I remembered a friend had recommended RTB to me. The GPS on my phone soon promptly took me there. It was after the lunch rush by the time I got there. It wasn't very busy and I was able to find a table on the patio after I had placed the order. I took my Road Trip Classic Lager with me to the table while I waited for my corned beef hash with fried eggs. The lager was crisp, light and refreshing and it went down quickly but I made sure there would be enough left with my lunch. My over easy eggs on the hash was fried perfectly with brown edges while the yolks were still running to allow the creamy cholesterol goodness seep down to the potatoes and corned beef pieces underneath. The hash was seasoned perfectly with no spices overpowering the potatoes and corned beef pieces. I had a very nice lunch in a somewhat industrial surroundings. Other than a transport truck backing in to the loading dock next to the patio when I was there, everything else seemed to have come to a standstill affording the patrons a lazy Friday afternoon.

Tastings cost $5 per person and can be applied towards the purchase of a bottle. When we came, they offered 8 whites and 3 reds on the tasting menu. We tried all the reds and five whites. The following were our favorites: Favorite white - Siegerrebe and Suzee Quattro Favorite red - Three Amigos We ended up buying 6 bottles - one of the Siegerrebe, two of the Suzee Quattro, and three bottles of Pinot Noir since it was wine of the month and was on sale (2 bottles for the price of 3). I'm so glad we stopped by this winery. We loved the wine and will be back to stock up!

Though one or two people working in the wine tasting room were nice friendly and polite. Small tasting room with maximum of 6 people seating arrangements and another 4 could stand in queue ( that small). Towards one corner are stored empty barrels for $150.00 /each. Right in middle is a barn used for events etc but not opened to general public. Could be rented. I am guessing owners house is in another corner as there is a bungalow on one side but i might be wrong. Wine yards are parallel on both side of the front yard. Its popularity was more than i thought. As we were there for over half an hour, we noticed visitors ,frequenters flocking the place on scooters, bikes. Its coz this is quite central to surrey and on the other side to vancouver. Well all have fun touring wine yards.

I love the concept in general, but I doubt I will do this again. I paid extra for the VIP package,…read morewhich included snacks, but I was disappointed in them (little packaged things that weren't very interesting), and I didn't think it worth the extra price at all. I was early and hit up Banner Bank first--they had an amazing spread that was very generous of them (and that was rare to find). But my first vintner gave me what was a swallow--which I first thought meant he wanted to see if I liked the wine sufficiently to pour me a reasonable taster. Nope! I was relieved to find others were more generous, but I can't say I had $25 worth of wine that night. Also, being first-up was easy, then as time went on, long lines in a crush of people. One thing I did like was getting to see some shops downtown that I wasn't aware of. Some people might really love the whole experience--but, for someone like me, I'd rather just wander around freely and try different places on my own little wine jaunt. I would love to offer suggestions for making it a better experience, but I don't know...needs for what it is kind of dictate what it pretty much has to be, maybe...

For an admission fee (this year it was $25) participants are given a souvenir glass to take to various locations and get a pour of their fave red, white, rose, or sparkling wine. It's a fantastic chance to stroll the streets of downtown with friends, experience some new businesses, and (of course!) enjoy tasty wine. This year was my first year participating and I had such a great time! I even found a bunch of businesses I hadn't ever visited, and ended up buying a few bottles of the featured wines (they are all available for sale at Vinostrology for easy one-stop post-event shopping). The event does get quite busy and doesn't last long, and lines were VERY long by the time it got going, so word to the wise: start early!
