First visit while driving through Red Springs. I thought the food was bland and not the greatest. I do not think I will return.

It's very welcoming as…read moreyou drive up, definitely a place the locals go to - many servers knew customers by name. When you walk in, they make you feel like family. The service was excellent. We ordered three drinks and three buffets which totaled $63.48. We waited about 10 minutes for a table before the Hostess took us to our table and brought us our drinks. The food was amazing, and the cabbage was my favorite. It was the BEST thing on the menu. The good: Fried chicken wings Cabbage Fried Fish Mashed Potatoes/Gravy Pulled Pork The bad: Mac and cheese - it was awful Okra (too Slimy) Chicken Livers (overcooked) Unfortunately, the foods are mostly fried items. The desserts were average- they had slices of vanilla cake, strawberry cake, banana pudding, ice cream and Jello. If you are really hungry, this is the place where you can eat good, home cooked southern food. B+

Everything I ate seemed to be frozen at some point. Nothing "fresh" or made from scratch in the joint. The food wasn't bad per se but it definitely wasn't what I was expecting. Especially for a hefty price of $18 for the dinner buffet. Definitely not going here again, not the worth the money.

The staff was very friendly, the service was good...I had takeout but the restaurant is a buffet inside. It clearly is a place the locals enjoy and it is an easy stop if you are on the way to the beach. All in all, my favorite was actually the hot dog. The chili was excellent and the slaw had just a touch of sweetness. The BBQ was well prepared, just not my favorite style or taste profile...a bit too much twang. I would recommend Shuler's if you are in the area and look forward to trying other items the next time I return.

The place is a large wooden building that resembles something that would have been built in the 1870's. There are a few bench's and chairs on the front porch to relax in after eating or if you need to wait for a table. They have a general store with some interesting items as well. Schuler's is a buffet style barbecue and all you can eat. Their pulled pork is their best meat. I wasn't really impressed with their ribs though. Don't get me wrong, the were pretty good but I certainly wasn't blown away. Their fried chicken is good but again not much different from most buffets in South Carolina. Their collards are nice and they do offer hash. If you're thinking corn beef hash, it's not that. It's a BBQ or liver hash and it's definitely an acquired taste. I usually put it over rice if I get it. Hash was highly popular in South Carolina for many years. It can't hurt to try it as Schuler's is actually pretty good. Not my favorite barbecue in the area but it's cool place with great people.

Only had to wait about 4-5 minutes and they ready, fried to perfection. Both tasted great, and both hit a craving we had. I've also gotten their BBQ plate in the past, which they pack full of meat, and have a few different sauce options, Esther you like a sweet BBQ sauce or a vinegar based, they've got you covered The order of hush puppies and Mac and cheese bites only came to $7 total, which is a great value compared to food from other trucks!

Hands down, the onion rings were my favorite side of the items we sampled (and this was after a twenty minute trip from the food truck back to our house). The chopped BBQ was tender but not lean enough for our preferences. The vinegar based dip had some pepper flakes scattered throughout and accented the pork without overwhelming it. Jerry and I were sharing everything. He cut the chop in half from the Pork Chop Plate. We took one bite, looked at the each other, and said, "We should have gotten the 2 piece Pork Chop Plate!" Not exactly hidden, but listed innocuously in the middle of the plate and sandwich sections, you'll find the 1Pc and 2Pc Pork Chop Plate as well as a Pork Chop Sandwich option.. Lightly dusted with seasoned flour and fried, the pork chop was golden and crusted on the outside and impeccably tender and juicy in the middle. We got a little carried away and ate it with our bare hands. There was no foolin' around with a knife and fork. Our two sides were French Fries and freshly made Cole Slaw flecked with color from carrots and red cabbage. Marty packed our Chicken Sub to the point of overflowing with scrumptious chucks of charred white-meat chicken, grilled peppers, sautéed onions, mushroom, and mayo. The sesame seed roll literally would not hold any more. For an additional $2, you can make it a combo with Fries and a Drink. As we unwrapped the Double Cheeseburger, I think our eyes widen to twice their normal size. Trust me when I say I had no idea the burger would be this big. I don't want to dampen Marty's Double Cheeseburger sales, but a single would have been plenty if you're using it as a chaser to the Large BBQ Plate, Pork Chop Plate, and Chicken Sub. The double burger was hand-pattied, and Marty must have huge man-hands. Covered in cheese, slaw, homemade chili, mustard, and onion, those juicy bad boys were a towering food lover's dream to behold. There is no seating inside the building, but take your meal and walk around to the back. Here you will find a truly unique picnic seating. The price point here is superb. $26 bought two trays-- chopped pork with sides of coleslaw and mac 'n cheese, a rib plate (4 bones) with sides of baked and green beans, a sausage link, and two cans of diet Pepsi. The mac 'n cheese, which is an in-house recipe, is one of the ten best that we have so far found in BBQ circles nationwide (346 stops in 35 states) . The coleslaw is neutral, making it ideal to cleanse the palate as you move between different meats. We also liked the beans, especially the green beans. The sausage link had good snap and flavor. and the in-house vinegar sauce really brought the pork to life, but our meat of choice here would be the ribs. Beautifully prepared, with a clean bite and a tasty rub and light sauce, they are simply delicious. So, we strongly recommend that you make the effort to get here ... but go early! We were eighth in line at the opening, and worried that we might miss out because, as is always the case in the universe of small town American BBQ, when it's sold out, they are done for the day.

Southern Smoke BBQ provided free food to the first 500 people, so I can imagine how much work they did to prepare the food. The pulled pork was the best North Carolina barbecue I have had so far. It was so moist, flavorful, and well-shredded. It had enough flavor that did not require additional sauce. However, their bottled vinegar sauce did add an extra oopmh, that I would still recommend adding. Their mac and cheese made with penne pasta was also very good. The pasta was a little overcooked to my taste but I still enjoyed it. It was creamy and packed with cheese. I could eat this every day. The coleslaw was good too, more on the sweeter side, but not overly sweet. Will need to stop by the restaurant next time I'm in the area!

When we pulled in, we quickly found out that this is not your typical restaurant establishment. It is located in what seems to used to be a shed, which stirred the thought in my mind that we shouldn't be eating here. But, my dad was committed and determined to try it out, and I followed along. When I walked in, I felt that I was in the 80s (hence the lone TV in the corner playing movies via VHS tapes). You can sit wherever you would like, and are given a short menu. We both got sweet teas, which I thought had a weak flavor, but my dad liked. Our server was the waitress, food runner, cashier, hostess, and everything in between. Despite this, she did a pretty great job at keeping everyone satisfied. I ordered the flounder plate, while my dad ordered the dark meat chicken plate. All plates come with fries, coleslaw, hush puppies, and a Kings Hawaiian roll. My flounder was mostly good, although one piece had a metallic taste. I requested 1 flounder, but they gave me three! How generous. My dads chicken was better than my flounder. The hush puppies are ok in my opinion (good, but not the best), I don't like coleslaw so I didn't try any, and the fries are very greasy but are good. The customers are either travelers off of the highway or interstate or are country locals. There were good people, laughs, and vibes going on at the country corral. I do think that the food could improve a bit, but because of the value for the amount of food you get, the people, the customer service, and the experience, Roys gets a 4/5 instead of a 3/5.
