Let me start by saying that this place was super busy and I experienced why. It's very welcoming as you drive up, definitely a place the locals go to - many servers knew customers by name. When you walk in, they make you feel like family. The service was excellent. We ordered three drinks and three buffets which totaled $63.48. We waited about 10 minutes for a table before the Hostess took us to our table and brought us our drinks. The food was amazing, and the cabbage was my favorite. It was the BEST thing on the menu. The good: Fried chicken wings Cabbage Fried Fish Mashed Potatoes/Gravy Pulled Pork The bad: Mac and cheese - it was awful Okra (too Slimy) Chicken Livers (overcooked) Unfortunately, the foods are mostly fried items. I just moved here for college and decided to go try a local spot. Online they're all about "old fashioned barbecue". Let me tell you, this was not it. Everything I ate seemed to be frozen at some point. Nothing "fresh" or made from scratch in the joint. The food wasn't bad per se but it definitely wasn't what I was expecting. There are a decent variety of southern options, including a salad bar; but you best like chicken if you're looking to get your fill. The iced tea could have been stronger, and I'm not keen on eating on plastic plates on a paper advertisement placemat. Service for beverages was prompt, but the line for the buffet could have been better organized. People were coming down on the food like vultures. Our server, Miss Deb, was a wonderful lady that asked us where we were from and told us that she likes to look out for the college students who are away from home. We really loved her and got a big hug from her when we left! On to the food - very mixed bag. This is the first barbecue restaurant I've been to that DOES NOT have barbecue! Went on a Saturday for lunch and upon entering, we were told we had to pay upfront before being seated. $13.99 for the buffet, which we were told is what everyone gets. We were not informed that they had run out of barbecue the day before. how does a barbecue restaurant run out of barbecue?!? The buffet is unmarked so you get to guess what the dishes are, and as our luck went, chitlins were on our plates- we had no clue what it was until after eating a bite and wanting to spit it out, the waitress told us what it was. The food here is always delicious, this was my first time at this location along with my wife. We thoroughly enjoyed all of the dishes we selected, and truth be told the chicken and dumplings were the best. Found out that this location replaced the previous location that was ruined by the hurricane a couple of years ago. They have not missed a beat the same friendly waitstaff and down home cooking as always. This location is closer to my house than the Fayetteville location so it seems like my family and I have a closer drive to get a good meal. I frequented the Fuller in Fayetteville when I lived there so I missed the good old southern food once I moved to Charlotte. An event brought me to this location. The chicken was good but the side items could use some work the mac and cheese was so watery it's like almost all the sides were liquidy if I can explain it vs creamy. This is my first time at the Pembroke location. I came on Sunday but apparently Monday evenings the have a 2 for $20 (taxes and drinks included) on Monday's! The food was amazing, the stew beef was the BEST thing on the menu, you literally can't go wrong!! The hushpuppies and fried chicken were also noteworthy! The only cons I would say are the yams (which are just ham patties and not homemade), the macaroni (which was cold and didn't look or taste homemade), and the dessert. We arrived at 8:30pm. Sign showed closing hours at 9:00pm. I've worked in restaurants for 3 years. Our last customer was always treated just as if they were our first customer for the day. Hot bar had been turned off at least 30 minutes to an hour before we got there because the chicken was cold and the biscuits were hard. We should have turned around and gotten our money back when we walked in and before we could even sit down (at the only table that the chairs weren't on top of it, ) lady at the salad bar looked at us and asked"Are you eating salad tonight? I guess not when she already pulled the bar and had it all sitting out the ice and on the cart in pans!! The sad part was they had at least 15 workers there, sitting at the booths, standing watching us, mopping floors, breaking down dessert bar, breaking down what was supposed to be the hot bar., with ALL of that help why would you RUSH OUT your customers!! We were then asked if we wanted any dessert and anymore food because they were in such a hurry to throw us out!! I looked at my husband and said ""This is why we drive all the way to Fayetteville,NC to eat at Fullers!! Always great service, foods always hot, even if it's 30 minutes before closing!!! We stopped on the way home from the beach. We had never been here before. The food on the buffet was good. Different meats veggies salad bar and dessert bar. Plenty of variety for everyone. The veggies are cooked southern style so they were soft but really good flavor. The wait staff was very friendly and efficient with drinks.
