After we decided that we were not going to a pub for our Dinner in Galway, who first decided on a Bistro that unfortunately had over an hour wait. We then wandered past Martine's and despite our initial misgivings about the relative emptiness of the place, we decided to go in. Great Choice! We were treated so well during our dinner and enjoyed the leisurely pace and comfort of our meal, with great service, menu advice, and nice wine pairings. I went for the delicious and chunky Fish Stew, as did Don. Gayle chose the Hake, while Fern went for the Roast Supreme of Chicken. All well prepared and quite tasty. The wine list was good, with my choice being a nice Vinho Verde and Gayle with her favorite Chardonnay. It was a great and leisurely night out! If Gayle and I are ever back in Galway, Martine's would also be a great date night choice. read more

Mussels were deliciously soaked in a light sauce and were in abundance to share, three of us and each easily had our own dozen. Rib eye and Sea bass cooked perfectly and flavors so on point. Martine's had delicious food, great service, and good company. The oysters were delicious. There were medium to large size, well balanced flavor and good texture. The ambiance was warm, romantic, and comfortable. We were lucky enough to sit at the bar and converse with Martin aka Tina who provided great and quick service while ensuring all the other guest had their drink orders. Very overpriced food. My sister is vegan and asked what the options were we were told that she could have the macaroni and cheese with no sauce and no cheese, so basically plain pasta and roasted veg. She was very disappointed and ordered two sides. It didn't stop there when we went to pay using a voucher we got as a gift we were told they could only accept half the voucher as they were under new management for the last year and a half, utterly shocked I had to pay the remainder of the bill, left in disbelief and I will be contacting the manager when he returns. read more

This was an absolutely horrible experience. The food was not good, they could not accommodate food allergies, they served warm alcohol, the host rushed up the stairs and lost us, the table was wobbly, the service was very slow, the never refilled water, they my only brought drinks when we asked multiple times. It was horrible. I lived in Ireland years ago and have always been so impressed by the hospitality, culture, and friendliness of the people. I brought my parents back for their anniversary dinner as this place was recommended, and it was disgraceful. I recommend any other establishment. And quite frankly, the manager was a complete jerk when concerns were brought to him. They didn't offer to make things right in any way. Take your money elsewhere!! read more

Food was ok and the service was slow. Waiter kept talking to hemostasis friends who would just pop in and say hello, slowing the table service to patrons. Had the ribeye which I ate but my wife couldn't finish because the cut was so fatty.. Disappointed as it's a quaint little place.. read more

We decided on this place based on the menu outside. It was a rainy day in Galway and we needed to dry out a bit. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. We sat at a table for two that looked out onto the pedestrian street. I started with Murphy's draft. It was very good beer. I thought I was going to order the chicken but I was too tempted by the special. I have never had Hake and this was a seaside town so that is what I ordered. Hake was a thick piece of white fish covered in an amazing sauce served on a bed of potatoes with broccoli and carrots on the side. This was an absolutely delicious lunch. The lunch dining room has an upscale cafe feel to it and is quite lovely. They also have wi-fi available to customers who don't have cellular data here. We had a very enjoyable lunch. read more

This place has delicious food, it's pretty expensive but has the same prices as you'd get on the main street. The salmon cake and truffle mac and cheese are very good. The side salad is skippable. You pay 7 euros for a plate of spinach and nothing else. The service staff was kind and the inner environment is nice. read more

This is a nice restaurant. The wait staff was very nice and friendly. The fish for the fish & chips was nice, fresh, light & flaky (they do need some work on their chips, they were dry and tasted burnt even though the color was good). The stuffed chicken on sourdough sandwich was really good. The stuffing was buttery and the chicken was cooked perfectly. It really was the best thing we got. Quaint little restaurant & wine bar located within the alley's of downtown Galway. By this time in my trip, it had been two weeks of drinking beer, and I was a little burnt out, so I thought I would mix it up and see what international wines Martine's offered. It was midday on a Thursday, so it was not too busy when I walked in, but I immediately noticed the vintage bar right away and made a B line for it. Bartender was quite nice, but unfortunately did not have too much knowledge in wine, which was a bummer since I did not know a lot of international wines they offered. I ate only an hour or so before arriving at Martine's so sadly I cannot comment on the apps or main dishes as I only ordered a dessert after some wine. Ordered two red's one from the Rioja region of Spain which was superb, and the other a Chianti from Italy which honestly felt a little corked to me. Roughly cost me about 18 euros, which is a pretty good price by me, just wish the Chianti would of been better. Finished off the visit with some coffee cake, I mean who doesn't love coffee cake? It was moist and very fresh, which was a plus for me because I needed more energy to continue strolling the wonderful streets of Galway! I would definitely like to come back to experience some of their food as the menu looked very enticing, maybe next time. read more

This restaurant has lots plaques outside and is highly recommended by many guides. I went to get an early dinner before a performance. It has a lovely atmosphere - the front part feels a bit like an old bar full of character. It was Saturday evening and they were fully booked but gave me space at the bar. The first thing I noticed was the lovely atmosphere and delicious looking food of the diners around me - was a warm welcome from very friendly staff. All the staff seem to be young but very well trained. Service is fast and friendly and knowledgeable. I ordered mussels and an appetiser of hake tempura and a glass of wine. All great. Just what is needed on a winter's day. I'll definitely return. read more

A wonderful meal, very reasonably priced. My family and I arrived on a Friday night without a reservation at peak time (around 7) and got a table after about a twenty minute wait at the very comfortable bar. Fascinating watching all the house drinks and wine being served up by one very efficient barkeep with a beautifully organized station. My husband and I had two very nice glasses of wine from their extensive European (and also new world) selection while we waited, and wished we could have ordered several of the other drinks we saw prepared: raspberry beret, Irish coffee, espresso martinis, and even wonderful nonalcoholic drinks which our kids sampled (raspberry spritz). On to our table and a very comfortable setting for our delicious dinner. I ordered the not so early bird special, which was easily enough for two people--huge delicious goat cheese salad, two large pieces of trout with vegetables, and dessert (I had Banoffee pie, which was very tasty and enough for both me and my husband. The rest of the family had truffle mac n cheese (the vegetarian liked it!), hamburger, and seafood stew--it had huge pieces of lobster and was very savory. The kids joined me with dessert (creme brullee) which they let me taste--creamy and wonderful with strong vanilla flavor. All for the equivalent of 40 dollars a person in the middle of the hopping Galway evening scene. Thanks to the attentive and cheerful staff at Martine's. We strongly recommend. read more

A solid choice for lunch for two. The food tested amazing, despite the questionable choice of tomato-based sauce for the fish. The hake tempura was mana from heaven though. My wife had the crab, and it also was amazing. The winelist is well chosen and carafes not overpriced. The only complaint I have is that the meal was not really filling - though my wife had no such complaint. Chose somewhere else if you are starving. Perfect for a nice meal though. read more

This restaurant was amazing. Everything was amazing. Fortunately we were able to be seated since this is a Reservations ONLY restaurant but may take you if they have a cancellation. The food was absolutely delicious. Yes, there is quite a wait but this is a place where you want to sit and talk and enjoy your meal with whom ever your with. If your looking for a quick bite, this is not the place to eat. However, the food is amazing and a bit upscale so dress a little nice. Since we went in there we were in regular attire and felt a little out of place but non the less were treated no differently. A very nice place for a date night. read more

This was an excellent choice for our one night in Galway. The setting is very intimate, with music playing in the background and low lighting. Their menu selection is on the smaller side, but the food itself is incredible. I had the Friendly Farmer Chicken and the goat cheese salad, my husband got their burger. Both meats were cooked perfectly and were more than enough for a single person to enjoy. The salad was fresh and light and absolutely delectable. The service was on the slow side, definitely not a place that could be in and out in less than 45 minutes. But overall, it was really delicious. read more

Considering the reviews this place has, I was very disappointed. Chose to have the truffled macaroni and cheese side dish as a starter. It was ok, but I don't think they understand this dish at all. It wasn't creamy, or cheesy, it was dry... As a starter I was "meh" with it, but I'm delighted I didn't order it for a main. I would have been highly unhappy. I then had the beef burger on a brioche bun. I LOVE brioche buns. That's why I ordered it, otherwise I would have gone for something else. So, as it was put down in front of me, I realised it was NOT a brioche bun. Sorry? Either change your menu or knock off a few squid for giving me a floury bap. I said nothing as I was starving (let me get to that in a minute). I asked for some ketchup and was brought a wee tiny little dish. I reckon it had about a teaspoon worth of ketchup in it. Why??? The beef patty itself was delicious. Nicely caramelised on the outside and juicy in the middle. The fries were just on the verge of stone cold..deep joy and happiness. Cold French fries with tiny ketchup rations, even McDonalds can do better than this Now, we did not time the wait between starter and main, but it was close to an hour before receiving our mains. (a burger and dish of mucsles?) If I hadn't of been so ravenous I would have complained a bit, but I just wanted to eat and move along. It kind of let the whole evening down as I need to let food sit before having a drink. By the time we finished up I really didn't want to wait around for ages to let my tummy settle so I could have a drink. read more

Great place to eat on the front patio, bar or one of their dining rooms. There wine list was very good not in the sense of ample choices, but what they offered was good. First night I had a nice 2009 Pomeroy. The second night I had an amazing 2004 Shiraz. I like the place so much I went back two nights in a row. Pâté starter was excellent. Definitely enough to share. A potential good dinner ruined by the kitchen and management. We ate there on Friday night after following recommendations of friends. Good wine and a great starter goat cheese salad. The specialty on the menu was a 21 day aged Prime Rib for two. ( a 63 Euro item) It had a 45 minute wait/prep time but our server assured us it was worth the wait. We ordered ours MEDIUM RARE......it arrived WELL DONE ( an insult to a good piece of meat in my opinion) and inedible. When we informed our server of it's condition she offered to have the kitchen make another. We could not wait another 45 minutes for the kitchen to correct it's mistake and declined. The server then proposed to offer us a complimentary dessert which we declined. We requested that they charge us for the rest of the dinner but remove the entree. They refused stating once they input an item into the computer system they could not remove it? ( even though the mistake was theirs) The manager offered no other explanation. What could have been a great meal was poorly handled by staff. We would not eat there again. There are so many good choices in Galway don't leave yourself open to this type of service. * If Martine's owners follow this please feel free to respond and let us know why you consider this good business? All of our meals (we had the soup, two of us had the steak burger and two had the salmon) were incredibly fresh and cooked perfectly. Our first meal in Ireland on our honeymoon. We stopped in for lunch-it's in the fun busy area downtown where all the restaurants are and they had a table outside so we thought we'd give it a try. When we sat down no one helped us for quite some time and I discovered you have to flag someone down and let them know you want to order food. I decided I needed to try fish & chips since I was in Ireland but I have definitely had better. It was a tempura batter and quite greasy and the fries weren't anything special. It wasn't terrible but definitely not that exciting being our first meal. read more

We came for the early bird dinner and were seated immediately. The tables are quite close together (and actually sat inches away from another table on the other side of the window), and by the time we finished eating, the restaurant had filled up. We started with a salad, which was fine, but the main courses were fantastic. We got the plaice and the monkfish, and both were very flavorful, cooked perfectly, and quite large. We also got the banoffee pie, which was also good. This was probably the best seafood that we had over 2 weeks in Ireland. read more

Service is the reason for the 4 stars here... The food was amazing, the location on quay street was great as well. WE ordered an app which came right away and then dinner which took forever. We split the prime rib as we both were craving some meat vs all the seafood we have eaten so far on our trip. The steak cooked perfectly. Not sure why it took 30 minutes for med rare prime rib but it was worth the wait. We aslo had the risotto, mac and cheese and spinach... All sides were amazing as well... read more

Another cozy haven for rain soaked travelers, or anyone looking for a delicious meal! My cousin and I sat at the gleaming wooden bar underneath rows of glittering wine glasses. The gracious host took our dripping umbrellas and coats and hung them up on a stand near the entry way. The bar tender and locals all were very convivial and engaging, and the food was outstanding. We opted for the three course dinner, a very good value. We enjoyed some complimentary bread and butter, and I chose to start off with a salad of fried goat cheese and cooked beets. For my entree, I was very satisfied with the cod, served baked in an herb and butter sauce, mashed potato, baked gem lettuce (surprisingly good), and for dessert, we split a superb thin sliced apple tart with house made caramel ice cream. read more
