Martin, the installation angel! We moved into a new place in Capitol Hill in the beginning of August. The place was adorable as most Capitol Homes are but also quite tiny. We didn't have any storage so our entire premise for moving in was built around being able to hang our bikes on the room in our den. Upon moving in we quickly learned that the walls were a mix of plaster and brick and too difficult for us to work with. I was completely distraught not knowing what we'd do. We found Martin and he was like angel sent from above and solved all of our installation woes. I called him and got his voicemail which instructed me to email him. I emailed him, left a voicemail the next day as a reminder and then he got back to me by email. His prices were around what others were charging (a little less which was a perk) but what sold us was that he had availability a few days later. He confirmed he was coming the day before and let me know by text when he was on his way. He worked quickly and cleaned up each room when he was done. We had him install 3 bike shelves plus 7 other things in total. Along the way he found plaster, dry wall, wood, cinder block, and brick. Martin made our home exactly how we wanted it to be. If you live in an old home and feel wary about hanging things, give Martin a call!

Martin installed a beautiful marble tile back splash in our apartment.

Is it possible to give more than 5 stars? Martin was the consummate professional, very knowledgeable and easy to work with. My wife and I hired Martin to complete a marble tiled back splash in our apartment in Adams Morgan. The job was somewhat involved and required Martin to visit our house twice (one day to hang the tile and the second day to grout the tile). After an easy email negotiation, Martin arrived promptly on our agreed upon day. After some discussion and Martin measuring the area to be tiled we concluded my wife and I had under-bought on tile required to complete the job. Instead of increasing his fee or becoming visibly frustrated Martin re-scheduled and assured us we weren't the first people to fall victim to such a bone headed rookie mistake. Once we were able to procure the correct amount of tile, Martin returned and executed the job to perfection. Despite some issues with the original construction of our apartment (increasing the degree of difficulty for the back splash), Martin was able to hang a level and visually stunning back splash. I would hire Martin again in a heartbeat!

My wife and I have used Martin for multiple projects big and small, and always with excellent results. Martin is incredibly professional, detail-oriented and fair. One notable, non-repair project Martin did for us this year was building a "dog house" under our stairs (photo below). All in, we HIGHLY recommend Martin!

    Glass subway tile backsplash

Martin did an excellent job installing my kitchen backsplash! I selected a glass subway tile that is prone to chipping. The tile vendor recommended a saw blade that left a jagged chipped edge along the cut. After Martin determined the vendor recommendation wasn't producing an acceptable cut, Martin tried four saw blades on two saws before he finally figured out how to make the cuts without any chipping. Martin clearly takes pride in his work. I'm very thankful that he was persistent enough to figure out how to perfectly cut my glass tiles. In addition to his high quality work, Martin was a prompt communicator, he left his workspace spotless, and he was even diligent about leaving his rain soaked shoes at my door. Thank you Martin!

Martin is professional, polite, easy to work with and does great work. I found him on here after deciding that I really wasn't ready to handle tiling the kitchen by myself. The only negative reviews where about him not returning calls, so I chose to email him. He responded later that day and was very flexible and willing to work with my crazy schedule and his being busy to set-up two days that worked for both of us. He even came out early in the morning so he could be set up before I left for work. He locked up when he left and I came home to a beautiful new back splash in the kitchen. Martin also noticed that the cabinets in my kitchen were crooked, so for an extra small fee, he rehung them. It's amazing how great the kitchen looks now! If I need help with any other projects, I'll be reaching out to Martin again.

    Sturdy Custom Shelves

Martin was wonderful. He built and installed custom shelves on budget and in a reasonable time. I could not be happier with his workmanship. And on top of that, he was responsive and friendly. Martin will be the first contractor I call if I have any future projects.

Made sure he found a stud to hang the bike on the wall. He had the hardware he needed and didn't use what came with from CB2.

Every review here is RIGHT! Now for a view from a brand new building with concrete ceilings, plaster and metal studs. Martin did a phenomenal job hanging Ikea curtain tracks, TV on the wall and a painting on a track in front of it. Clean, excellent service and really a professional. I highly recommend him for any job you may need done. He also provides insight and information before he comes and answers questions so I knew what to buy at Ikea, Home Depot etc.Really a pleasure working with him and while I don't think his rates are outrageous, he is worth every penny.

I can't say enough good things about Martin and his workmanship. I initially hired Martin to tile my kitchen backsplash, fix gaps in my crown molding, and repair/paint drywall. He remained good-natured and flexible throughout the multi-week project, even as the scope of the work expanded unexpectedly. Martin lives on Capitol Hill and knows his way around the quirks of our old homes. He did a beautiful job on my tile backsplash -- perfect, clean lines and lovely finishing. Martin was also able to give me sound advice on a number of home-related issues above and beyond the work I was paying him to accomplish. I also appreciated his honesty when he told me what kind of projects were outside his area of expertise. Throughout the project, I felt comfortable entrusting Martin with a key to my house, and he worked diligently even when I was not here. Martin also had endless patience working around my very "helpful" one year old puppy. I will definitely call Martin again for future home repairs and improvements.

I am very pleased with the work Martin did to install my complicated glass tile backsplash. He made sure he had the right blade to cut the tiles and was precise with the installation. Martin was responsive to emails and provided a good rate. He shows up when promised which is sadly not to be said for everyone. And he also offered to fix my garbage disposal and after much trying (I felt it might have been beyond repair) hang around and install a new one I picked up. I would definitely call on him again.

Martin did a great job with all the items I needed help with. He stopped by to assess the level of effort and provided me a quote, after which I put him to work on my number 1 priority I wanted done. He did even a better job than I expected. The backsplash install was top notch and looks great. He also did a great job painting one of my rooms, fixed some water damaged dry wall, installed custom roller blinds, filled in some cracked grout in the shower and left the place cleaner than before he started. All of that was in under 2 days. I would definitely recommend Martin for any handyman projects. Thanks especially for the great backslash (photo uploaded).

Consumer Warning: Do Not Hire FixTman LLC (Washington, D.C.)…read more I would strongly caution anyone against hiring FixTman LLC for TV mounting or installation services. I hired this company through a referral from BJ's Wholesale Club, expecting professional installation. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst service experiences I have ever had. The technician arrived and spent 4 hours mounting my TV. Less than 10 minutes after he left, the TV fell completely out of the wall. After I contacted the company, the technician returned with his father and reinstalled it. That should have been the first red flag. The TV was installed in September 2025. In April 2026, the TV fell out of the wall again -- this time causing serious damage: * Destroyed my TV * Damaged my wall / sheetrock * Left me with additional repair costs I contacted FixTman LLC again, and their response was that they would do nothing because it had been more than 30 days. To make matters worse, Thumbtack Quality Assurance also stepped in and tried to help resolve the issue on my behalf. They contacted FixTman LLC directly, only to be told the exact same thing -- that I only had 30 days and they would not take responsibility. Let that sink in. A properly mounted TV should not fall out of a wall -- not once, and definitely not twice. This was not normal wear and tear. This was poor workmanship, improper installation, and a complete lack of accountability. In over 40 years, I have never seen anything like this. Please do your research before hiring this company. I will also be reporting this experience to BJ's Wholesale Club, since they referred them. I had started the job myself but got an anchor screw stuck and figured I should have a pro step in so I didn't wreck my new walls. All the supplies were here, placed where they needed to be, holes were measured and marked for custom made rods and drapes. He charges by the hour and moves very, very slow. He didn't have his own step ladder or anchor screws. In the first hour, he managed to put in 3 screws in holes that had already been marked. He claimed he "needed to remeasure" and that's why it took so long, but he used the holes that I had already marked. He also said it was too hard to do with custom cut rods. He also said it wasn't his fault because I had an anchor screw stuck in the wall already, which was the whole reason I hired him. This is what pros do: they come prepared, know the required materials and techniques, and advise the customer on the best way to proceed. I knew we needed to cut it off when he asked me how to use an anchor screw. He didn't know if you needed to pre-drill or not for a very basic and common anchor. I cannot imagine a professional handyman not knowing that. He used a level to stare at the pre-marked holes for what seemed like an eternity, just eating up time. 3 screws = $200. Seems like a nice enough man, but handyman may not be the profession for him, and that's giving him the benefit of the doubt that he wasn't just trying to take advantage of someone he assumed was too naive too know how long the job should take. He became very defensive, making excuses when I said we'd need to end the job at one hour. Im sure judging by other less than 5 star reviews here (that I really wish I'd have taken the time to read) he will post a very defensive response here as well. Please just don't take a job you don't have the required expertise to complete, and I don't want to hear defensive excuses when I'm still out $200 for almost no work completed.
