He said he would come at noon, he called to confirm he was on his way at 11:30 and arrived right at noon. He was clear about pricing and was communicative throughout the job. Everything is installed and looks and works great! They also cleared away all the trash associated with the job. I will definitely call them again for other projects.

We have used Capitol Handyman for multiple renovation projects and will 100% keep going back to…read morethem as needed. They have helped us completely renovate two bathrooms with custom showers, cabinets, and non standard tiles, retiled and painted our basement, painted our staircase wooden railings, and installed marmoleum flooring in our kitchen. Each time, David came up with creative and viable options for us, advised and accommodated us on any custom requests, kept us up to date on timeline, and made sure to check in with us on any decisions as the project evolved. David's crew is also very skilled, professional, courteous, and meticulous. They all have a very high sense of quality as evidenced by how well the tile fitting and flooring came out (we live in an old row house so nothing is straightforward). David also has a network of special contractors that he pulls in for special tasks (like installing a glass shower door). Their pricing is also reasonable , especially considering the value and peace of mind you get with David and his crew's professionalism.

The big chessboard required metal brackets. Philip ensured that the piece was attached to the wall securely. Overall, very professional. I will definitely hire him in the future. I had started the job myself but got an anchor screw stuck and figured I should have a pro step in so I didn't wreck my new walls. All the supplies were here, placed where they needed to be, holes were measured and marked for custom made rods and drapes. He charges by the hour and moves very, very slow. He didn't have his own step ladder or anchor screws. In the first hour, he managed to put in 3 screws in holes that had already been marked. He claimed he "needed to remeasure" and that's why it took so long, but he used the holes that I had already marked. He also said it was too hard to do with custom cut rods. He also said it wasn't his fault because I had an anchor screw stuck in the wall already, which was the whole reason I hired him. This is what pros do: they come prepared, know the required materials and techniques, and advise the customer on the best way to proceed. I knew we needed to cut it off when he asked me how to use an anchor screw. He didn't know if you needed to pre-drill or not for a very basic and common anchor. I cannot imagine a professional handyman not knowing that. He used a level to stare at the pre-marked holes for what seemed like an eternity, just eating up time. 3 screws = $200. Seems like a nice enough man, but handyman may not be the profession for him, and that's giving him the benefit of the doubt that he wasn't just trying to take advantage of someone he assumed was too naive too know how long the job should take. He became very defensive, making excuses when I said we'd need to end the job at one hour. Im sure judging by other less than 5 star reviews here (that I really wish I'd have taken the time to read) he will post a very defensive response here as well. Please just don't take a job you don't have the required expertise to complete, and I don't want to hear defensive excuses when I'm still out $200 for almost no work completed.

He replied back with an estimate and some times he could come out. He showed up on time, examined the window with me and laid out a plan for the repair. After working on it for a bit he brought me back down for an update: there was a lot more water damage than we expected. We made a new plan to replace more of the frame. There were a couple more surprises that kept expanding the job (more rotten wood, an old rats nest in the wall above the removed window, brick damage caused by the rotten beam bowing and not supporting the bricks above the window properly). The job ended up being a lot bigger and more expensive than expected (2.5 day job rather than 0.5 day; billing is by the hour and very straightforward), but I couldn't be happier with the work and the process. Rather than a quick patch job I ended up with a solid, long-term fix. Here are a few more reflections on working with Mike: -Great communication. Mike gave me frequent updates, walking me through what he found and what the options were. -I never felt like I was being upsold. Mike was very collaborative and empathetic when showing me problems and discussing solutions. -Mike's knowledge and skillset goes deep. If this had been a simple window sealant job with a frame board replacement I'm sure he (and probably lots of other handymen) would handle it great. But as we peeled back the onion and found more complexity it became clear how well he understands houses and how to make them work the way they're supposed to. Mike and Renaissance will definitely be my go-to for future handyman / painting / renovations needs. Thank you Mike!
