A week, 6 spark plugs, 6 ignition coils & $2200 later the ck engine light came back on (something they told me could happen) and I had to have the cat. converter replaced anyway... which I had done @ another shop closer to home that specializes in that type work. No doubt the plugs & coils needed replacing but I just thought $2200 for a tuneup was way too expensive...the garage that ultimately replaced the converter confirmed my thinking telling me I overpaid by about $500 for the tuneup. In summary if you're in a pinch like I was and can't shop around, Two Guys Garage can certainly be trusted to do quality and timely work... just be sure to bring your checkbook cause it's gonna cost ya.

But because he had an attitude and fear of his own capabilities in terms of diagnosing and identifying the exact problem he wasted half my day having me come down there for nothing. I'll probably have to fix it myself, as usual, since most mechanics these days are all equally lazy and frankly stupid, unless they can rip you off totally, then they may be willing to try. Very frustrating and disappointing experience with this Tewksbury-located shop. I would NOT recommend them to anyone.

I came to the shop for alignment, an exhaust quote, and maybe smoothing the front rotors. Came out with half an alignment, an exhaust quote, new brake fluid, and other brake work to save up for. The Good: Very friendly, approachable sales and mechanical staff. Lots of show cars and happy customers on display. Reasonable with cost of work and parts. Called me back like they said they would. Clean shop, looks comforting. They did find a brake fluid leak I missed, and didn't give me a hard time about doing that work myself. The Meh: I paid for 4w alignment only to find they just adjusted the front/rear toe. No other shop had trouble with front camber, but this one said it "can't be adjusted on this car". No call to say that, and evasive about whether they tried and lost to rust -- or if they just didn't know it was adjustable. But that's what I paid them for... I guess they also inspected my air filter, because I found it wasn't closed all the way. A sudden extra roaring sound when I left should have been hard to miss. Verdict: My car is 18 years old, and though it looks its age I love it. But I hoped for more than I got from this shop.

They contacted Toyota for an estimate on parts after determining the issue was not fixable but rather several things would need to be replaced, and quoted me over $1,000 in parts alone -- and proceeded to tell me it wasn't a necessary/worthwhile fix at this time, especially at that cost. It doesn't get much more honest than that. A lot of other places would gladly take your money in that situation -- this is a small, father and son owned/operated business and it's very evident that they aren't out to pull the wool over anyone's eyes. I was previously taking my car to a chain business for things like oil changes/inspections, and after being quoted over $700 for brakes and having them done for around $300 at another local, small mechanic shop that has since closed, I'll never trust a place like that again. When I went to pick up my car at the end of the day, I expected to at least have to pay something for the time they took to look at the car and assess the situation -- instead, I was told that because they couldn't/didn't fix anything, they weren't charging me anything. It had already been a rough week financially with some unexpected expenses coming up, so by this point I was ready to hug them! I can't recommend Lowell Street Automotive highly enough.
