Fortunately I don't have many plumbing issues, but my first call was always to Martin Masters. So, when I called them about a very slightly leaky tank toilet and a frozen cutoff valve on same (meaning that I'd have to cut off water to the whole house to shut off the toilet), and got a response that they wouldn't be able to make it until mid-January, I found another plumber (Absolute Precision in Saddle Brook and I can't say enough nice things about their work and professionalism). If that's their attitude to a long time customer, well, let's just say that, though I should be happy that they're busy enough to where they're backed up for a month, they'll never be hearing from me again. Tried to charge me twice as much for a simple boiler cleaning as last year's price and then had some line about busy season despite having an non-emergency appointment 2 weeks in advance. Complete hog wash, and it's clear he makes up his prices as he goes and gouges customers as he can depending on your need...even worse huh, the type who will kick you when you are down. Read the other reviews, this is his business practice. I would be wary of doing any business with this firm as even if the up front price is competitive, if it leads to more you'll get the old switch then. Personally, I'm embarrassed as a local to Midland Park that this is part of our community and feel he should be ashamed of the business that bears his name. Made an appointment for an estimate which I stayed home from work for, they cancelled an hour before they were supposed to come, saying the technician got sick. It was not an overly hot day like it has been lately so I can't see it being because they were too overloaded. Being I previously worked for an ac company, Techs didnt do a new install estimate, it was a particular sales guy, and there were back up people. I understand people get sick and things happen, but they made it seem like no big deal, and to not call back a few days later seeing if I was still interested seems odd. Where I used to work always followed up, especially new customers, let alone the fact the company cancelled and not the customer. Shower basin drain and utility sink needed snaking to open drains (both easy access). Martin Masters plumbers came in, quickly looked at drains, then went to truck to prepare estimate. Returned after 5 minutes with a near $600 estimate for the simple task of snaking two easy drains. Consumers need to be aware of such exploitive pricing. We sent them away, and called an alternative. Will never use Martin Masters. read more

In 2015 we used Martin Masters to install a spacepak system. Already after the work was done two of the vents didn't blow air upstairs And they did nothing to try and resolve that. 2018 only 3 years after the system was installed we needed a new compressor. 2020 the person who came to start system did absolutely nothing but the bare minimum and a few weeks layer I needed some outside company to come get my compressor to work properly and the person was stunned that no one had cleaned the system or anything else. now 2021 seems like the same thing is about to happen with needing a new compressor. I am disgusted and feel I will be bringing my business elsewhere. read more

Wasted my entire Friday afternoon before Christmas waiting for these clowns and they don't show up. I had a pile of things to do, but I just sat around waiting for this terrible company. I called a few moments ago to ask what happened and the woman who took my call said she called me at 11:30 am to reschedule and left a message. 1st of all, that is a lie. I had my phone with me the entire day and there was no message then or even checked a moment ago. 2nd, I have to wait a week to get this appointment and you have the nerve to reschedule???? A UPDATE: Later the same day I left this review MARTIN MASTERS CAME TO MY HOME TO CONFRONT ME!!!!!! I was not home, but he did wake up my pregnant wife after she put our 2 year old down for a nap. My wife told me at 1st the conversation was polite, but after a few moments he was demanding that I take my review down, she said to him that she had no idea what I wrote and to contact me and it could be worked out. That is when he started raising his voice and acting erratic. She had to slam the door in his face and that is when she called me. What kind of psycho are you Martin? Did you come to my home to fight me?? Inimidate me??? Are you off your meds????!!!!! I wonder if you did this to all the many people who left you poor reviews. All I wanted when I called to complain was someone to show some concern and appologize for me losing a 1/2 day waiting. If you left a message or not (you didn't) a simple demenor change of the woman answering my call would have made everything right. Instead you treat me with indifference and blaming me for not getting a message that was never left. Then you had a 2nd chance to make things right, a simple polite phone call could have sorted this out and I would have taken my review down immediately, I've done it before when company reaches out, but that was too tough for you. Polite customer service is too tough for you. Instead you come to my home to confront me and in my absence, harrass my pregant wife. Kind customer service could have sorted this out at any point before you came to my home, but that ship has sailed and this record of your erratic behavior will stand. THIEVES!!! Anyone who calls or uses these clowns has a better chance of fixing their plumbing issue by throwing out $50 bills on the Turnpike then having these guys actually fix your issue. Their scheme is to do a 1 stop 'Grab & Go'. You get told it will be $28 for an 'eval'. Nice try Martin. I had a clogged drain & asked for a pro to show up with a 50ft snake as I have a 25 ft snake and am more than capable of fixing a 'clogged drain'. As I was not hOme but my 20 year old son was, we got suckered into the old 'shake&bake'. Aka, let me look and try to fix it (just like any neighbor could) but when I FAIL to fix the issue even thoughI didn't bring the right equipment, ...sorry but you owe me $439. The owner said he would be at install, he wasn't. The work that was done wasn't where we had agreed. Then his incompetent workers got their equipment stuck in my chimney, wanted to open the chimney walls, created a huge soot pile, and then used my box fan to "clear the air" which blew greesy soot throughout my basement and first floor, covering all of my children's toys in their play room. Soot can cause cancer. The owner was too busy that day to deal with us. We were told he was on a sales call. It was such a mess. Everything you touched in my house would turn your hands black! I sent pictures and videos. The owner offered to clean part of my carpet, that's it! Then he harrassed me to try to not go through insurance. My insurance company was fantastic! They took over. Everything was either replaced, repainted or washed. They even got me a check from Martin Masters insurance. I don't know how Martin Masters ever got good reviews or are still in business. read more

I used to be a fan of this company but they are WAY too expensive for the same work that an equally qualified & licensed plumber could perform. Martin Masters Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning has way too much overhead with way too many trucks and employees. Martin, the owner, doesn't do the real work anymore so he has to drastically mark everything up so he can pay his own bills at home. He uses flat-rate pricing which might seem like a good thing to the customer because there are no surprises or added costs if the job runs long, but the pricing is really a wolf in sheep's clothing. One time I had four stop valves installed and because the flat rate to have one stop valve installed was $121, guess what his guy charged me? $484. That's absurd. The truck was already there. The tools were already laid out. They didn't have to come to the house four times. I was in a jam and paid it but I'll never do it again. Everybody deserves to make a living but when you can literally get the same service for hundreds, or even thousands less there is simply no need to call Martin Masters. read more

Our experience: We needed to replace bathroom sink drain pipe & drain stopper. Martin Masters estimator came & to our dismay, provided written $465 to replace sink, vanity, etc. My wife followed this up with a call to Martin Masters who then reduced the estimate to $266 to install new pop up drain. I just went to plumbing supply store, bought new pop up for $35 & installed in 10 minutes. Disgraceful is the only word I have for Martin Masters! read more

Called Martin Masters Plumbing about a small gas leak which occurred in my home. They agreed to send a technician the next day to evaluate the issue. The technician showed up 30 mins after the 2 hour window they provided. When the technician showed up he clearly wasn't in the correct state of mind and seemed "out of it." After speaking with him for 15 minutes I realized something was not right with him. We declined the service and decided to use another company as I did not find their technician to be professional or knowledgable. read more

I drive past Martin Master's daily and thought of them when our AC went down on a hot July day. Called at 8am and was told a tech would notify me when they were available. Called again at 4 to check on our chances for the next day...same response. Called two other firms and at least they had the courtesy to say it would be a few days and maybe into the next week. Fortunately a friend hooked us up and repaired a loose wire. Done in 15 minutes and a nice tip. I completely understand that it's very hot and they're swamped with calls. Just need to communicate the facts. Thought of them today as I drove past the business was headed to a nice cool house and realized that a week later there was still no call. Stay away! They just gave me an estimate for over $1000 to repair two leaks and install one frost free spigot. The tech said is would take him about 2 hours. When I questioned the price, the tech called me an a**hole. In my opinion, this company preys upon unsuspecting people. read more

I'm nothing rating on the work, I'm rating on the estimate. I needed 10 ft of pvc pipe and a check valve on my sump pump and they quoted me $900, 2 other plumbers quoted me $250-$300. Also needed a new diverter valve on my shower and they quoted me $1,900, plus a asterick stating whatever they break they would not be responsible for. 2 other charged $500-$700. I advised the prices were pretty high, and their response was "Plumbing is very expensive". I did not use them. read more

STAY AWAY!!!!!!!! My air conditioning was running fine, I called for repair of a small problem that inspector found and needed to repair before closing. They came out and handed me an estimate for $6,800, telling me "we don't just fix systems". I later called another well-known place and they repaired the part that needed fixing and charged me $125.00 plus tax. When I called Martin Masters, mistakingly thinking they'd want to know what their rep said they left me a voicemail telling me that they didn't say I "had to" replace my system...really? I must have gotten that idea from the $6,800 estimate! read more

Martin Master Plumbing is a poor choice. They are unreliable, and that is a clue, to homeowner BEWARE. I scheduled my appointment to replace a leaky , cracked sewage pipe , and was told they come , do the estimate and complete the work , if desired. I scheduled for 10AM to 12 noon on Friday October 24th. I called the night before to let the co. know I could not be available till 10:15. They apparently called my home when I was not there , at 8:30 AM , to tell me they can come NOW, at 8:30AM . I called back to remind them of my phone call , and they said that Dan was on another job already( boy that was fast) but I was next. At 12 PM I called again and was told he would be at my home between 1 and 2 PM. At 2:45 I called again, and was asked to reschedule. I did what I should have done in the first place; I promptly hung up. read more

I hired Martin Masters to replace a leaking water heater. The good news is they were able to come same day and replace the water heater. The bad news is that the workers did a terribly sloppy job, leaving cut pipe, solder and all sorts of other debris all around the worksite after leaving. They also failed to clean the floor before installing the water heater which was covered with slimy rust from the days of the old Heather leaking. They just installed the new water Heather right on top of that mess. They also damaged the doorway molding while bringing in the water heater. The pricing was higher than average but that's not the plumbers fault. I could have comparison shopped for a better price. The worst part of all this was the failure of the owner to call me and discuss the problems after I asked the office manager for a call on three separate occasions. Had the owner taken the time to call a disappointed customer to talk through the issues, I wouldn't have to waste my time writing a review. I'd be very careful hiring Martin Masters plumbing and heating. Performclean, professional job with good customer service is not a strength of this company. Martin has written a very self serving response to my post. He never cared enough to investigate personally. You can ask YOUR technician whatever you want but I can assure you that the tech is more concerned about pleasing you and telling you what YOU to hear to preserve their job. Regardless, Martin never returned my calls (3) to discuss the issues. There's no excuse for that. If you actually cared about your reputation and the work performed by your team, you make that call, no questions asked. But when you want to avoid a difficult conversation, you don't call people back. That's Martin Masters plumbing. Inconsistent work and Martin spending more time writing responses to bad reviews than spending 5 minutes on the phone with a customer that paid $3k for a water heater replacement. read more

DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE!!! They were good around 10 years ago - we had a hot water heater installed and also a gas burner. Not the best customer service but they did a solid job. Then around 5 years ago, we needed to have 2 SpacePak systems put in and they were the only ones that we knew who could do this as we have an old house. They constantly were nickel and diming us for service and everything - estimates were 3-4X higher for basic plumbing and heating requests. Last year (after 3-4 years with one SpacePak system) they told us we had a leak and a major part needed to be replaced. We were skeptical and called SpacePak who said they never heard of this happening and recommended another vendor. It turned out that Martin's team likely purposely put dye on our system to show a broken part, which another vendor later showed us was a $1 part that needed to be replaced. The system worked and works great now but we were shocked at what happened. There are a few other things that happened with their service and being very defensive or argumentative on things that later turned out to be their fault (they had an employee named Manny who I banned from our house due to his work and attitude.) More recently, the other system that they installed in our basement had the trunk held up to the ceiling with netting - and it came down in 2 places. Hardware store gave us iron fasteners and said they never heard of a system trunk being held up by something this shoddy. They cut corners on service, are antagonistic and overcharge. I would have recommended them 10 years ago but if you need to use someone, there are many others who are better, nicer, cheaper and more responsive. FWIW, I've heard similar stories from others lately about their experiences as I was sharing ours. read more

We had the good luck to call Martin Masters for an emergency situation---a toilet that would not stop running. It was a pleasant surprise to reach a LIVE person on the telephone. This lady took our call and sent a technician to our home within 30 minutes. The Martin Masters representative, Christian, handled the job very well. This is another negative review about price gouging by Martin Masters. Our A/C died over a Weekend during a heat wave. As a result, I scrambled to find someone to help us out on an emergency basis. The Martin Masters technician told us that both the circuit board and the compressor had died and that we would need a new system (estimated cost $4,500). I called the installer of the system for a second opinion. He told us that the compressor was just fine and all we needed was a new circuit board (a $250 part). When I complained to Martin Masters about the poor diagnosis, I was told that we were never told we needed a new system (even though that is what their written estimate says). read more

Never got past the estimate...quoted $1,800 to install a recirculating pump (on top of the $1,700 for installing a new water heater) that did not require a return line although they claimed it did...when I called them on it, the guy then tells me that if I install the bypass valve myself (a five minute job) he will do it for $865. Long story short, I had the pump and valve installed for $200. Go figure...with that said, they were very friendly but their prices are brutal. read more

Any one have a fair plumber to recommend? 6 years ago we had Martin Masters replace a $4,200 boiler and he used old parts where it connects now when I called him back to fix the leak his worker quotes me just over a thousand dollars (w/tax) for the 5 little pieces of pipe total 15". I asked him to have the boss call me to discuss a fair price and a week later crickets. I checked the plumbing supply store and the black pipe parts are $66 retail. This was my first time ever calling this company for service and I must say the service was excellent from the dispatcher (Dawn) to the service technician (Martin), who turned out to be the owner of the company. He arrived within the scheduled time which was refreshing. I've spent too many occasions waiting for service calls that either don't show up or come hours later. He was extremely courteous and knowledgeable. He resolved my issue in a timely manner and took the time to attach tags on the furnace to identify various cutoff valves. We hired Martin Masters to replace our furnace and hot water heater. They did the work but failed the towns pluming inspection with a list! They returned and repaired most of the list except they did not replace the condensation over flow pump on the furnace with the type the inspector requested. It came time to sell our house and get a CO only to find out this repair had to be done to comply with the towns inspector.We called Martin Masters back to make good on his install and the only way they would do it was to charge us $318.00 for work they should have done for free.
