We've taken our Shih Tzu here for training since summer 2025. He was very nervous around other dogs and people, however since training here, he has become much letter, less scared and gained confidence. These people lost my dog's paperwork...his veterinary records and his pedigree records. they were supposed to make copies but did not return the originals to me and then they couldn't find the copies or the originals so I don't even know why they asked me for that information in the first place if they don't keep it in a place where they can find it. Z Good thing I have more copies. They're supposed to be dog trainers, but it is a very uncomfortable situation because it is a small space and the effort to keep dogs apart from each other is completely stressful for the owners and the animals . I never had anybody follow up with me as far as the progress of the eight class package that I paid for. I only attended four sessions so I never got the last four sessions owed to me. They never called and said you have four sessions remaining. I was out of town for a month and a half dealing with a family emergency. Almost a year past and they never called to say hey you still have four sessions they just took the money. But the icing on the cake is that they actually charged my credit card five dollars for anytime my puppy urinated during training. Despite the fact that they do supply cleaning materials, they will still charge you every time your dog makes a mistake. they expect the dogs to be fully trained before they participate in any of the activities and training that they offer . Way too stressful for both the dog and the owner . There are plenty of training facilities on Long Island do your research. It is not worth giving these people your money and stressing you and your pet out. read more

I had to reschedule my first evaluation appointment for our dog and we confirmed with them for 2/4 at 11 AM. When we got there we were told it's for 2/11 and then I showed the representative the email where they confirmed for 2/4 at 11 AM. She then said we had to reschedule because they already had someone for 11 AM that was using the pool. I said I would call back because we travelled over a hour for this even though she said we could come back at 1:30 PM. We decided to just wait and after trying to get in contact with them multiple times, I finally got a call back that we could definitely come back at 1:30 PM. So we waited. A little bit before 1:30 pm, about 5 minutes before, I started to get out of the car so we could head inside. I was told by the owner (just found out he was the owner by our friend) that I had to wait a little while longer because there was a class in the front. After waiting some more, someone else went in and they didn't have a problem that they were there so I headed in to see how much longer we had to wait outside. I was then told to come inside with our dog by one employee. While waiting, the owner look annoyed that we were now inside. He told us to go to the back where the pool area was and to wait there. As we waited for a while in the back, a trainer told us to now wait in the service entrance until they were ready for us because she had a lesson going on back there and I guess we were bothering them. I told her how we have been waiting basically all day for this and she got the owner to come meet us in the service entrance. When he finally came to the back he told us that they were accommodating us so we had to be patient. No apologies for their error was ever offered, no sense of urgency to try to take care of us as potential new members. Nothing. He didn't even care to hear us out, he just walked away as if this were all our fault and he couldn't deal. TLDR; this place has HORRIBLE customer service. Don't bother coming here. read more

I signed up for a $500 agility training program and I feel like I have been cheated. While the trainers are very competent, there's a number of them and there is no continuity from one session to the next with my dog's training. It's like Groundhog Day-we keep repeating the same things over and over each session- things which I could easily do in my backyard by myself. This has been a disappointing experience. My suggestion for the trainers is to log what was done each session so that the next trainer has something to refer to and is not starting from square one again, asking the same questions and doing the same routine. read more

We live in brooklyn, so it's a hike, but we loooove Martial ARFS! We've never taken a group class, b/c we know our 2 year old rescue isn't up for that level of distraction, but the private lessons are amazing. They have a wide, wide range of exercise and training options, from agility to swimming and lurecourse, through which they help owners and pups build their bond and communication, as well as sport skill and stamina. The trainers are wonderful and truly knowledgeable, not just about obedience and canine cognition but about their anatomy & physiology-- they're so much more than obedience trainers. I think if I'd have to explain it in human specialist terms, they're what you'd get if you combined the most patient and creative teacher you've ever had, the funnest PE teacher or coach you ever had, the most helpful personal trainer you've ever had, and the most insightful physical therapist you've ever had- ...But for dogs. They're really great (so far, we've worked primarily with Michael, a few times with Yeman, and occasionally gone swimming w Harry-- all three = wonderful, patient, encouraging, while making our pup really stretch herself/work. She loves them so much.) We're so grateful for this team of dedicated, knowledgeable canine specialists, especially because our exercise options at home are so limited. The idea of a dog fitness center is awesome. I've been wanting to get my dog into some kind of dog sport to keep her body and mind active and stimulated. Plus, we absolutely avoid the dog park due to a past negative experience (basically attacked at the dog park) so I had hoped this was a better alternative. Well, I was wrong. I had high hopes for this place, but it's just not the right one. I should have listened to my dog because she has never been so nervous before. First off, I forgot my treats and I was asked to grab a bag off the wall. I almost did, but then I realized it wasn't free. A bit scummy to try to get someone to buy something without telling them. Of course I didn't, because I didn't want to pay for a bag of treats I didn't need and I did already pay 30 DOLLARS for an "evaluation". I had to walk back and forth to my car so I could retrieve ONE COOKIE I recall I had. Great customer service /s. I've been to obedience classes as well as behavioral training sessions and even though they asked me to bring treats, they still shared with me if I forgot. I understand some dogs do have food allergies, but it wouldn't hurt to not be so stingy and lend some treats if someone needed. Keep different flavors in separate glass jars if you have to. The "stress/bite test" was actually a guy putting on a unicorn mask on and approaching my dog which actually stressed her out really badly. She still ended up barking at the guy when he was not even wearing the mask. Because of this experience, my dog wasn't acting the same as usual the rest of the day and the next day. Unforgivable!!! I noticed she became more wary of strangers. And in the end, I was told about packages that started at about 400 dollars. I was honestly not sold enough and one reason I went in for the evaluation was because I thought you could get individual classes. Not everyone wants to drop that much money at once. Way too expensive for what it is, as well. read more

Yemin our trainer for private sessions did a very good job on our first dog. When we scheduled the following sessions for our second dog, the group sessions were weak. We were not able to use the app to schedule the sessions, it just didn't work. We were given an extension until March but was told after the fact that it only applied to one dog. It's absolutely ridiculous. Read up on these reviews. I am not the first to get stabbed by these people. It's unfortunate because the real losers here are the dogs. I'm sad I didn't like this place more, but unfortunately I feel like not all dogs are the right fit for this type of place. I see that I am not alone on this based on other reviews. My puppy is definitely more on the anxious side, and the format of both the classes and the layout of the facility just didn't really make sense to me after attending a few sessions. All that being said, that's not why I gave 3 stars. The good things - the staff all seem to be genuinely kind people. Other pet parents are as well. Was a great place to spark conversation about anything pup training related. For that alone I enjoyed going. The not-so-good things - martial ARFS uses an app that is faulty at best. I signed up for a class on a Saturday that apparently my puppy was over the age limit for, I didn't know this and nothing on the app indicated this. I showed up on that Saturday to attend the class only to be told that she could not participate, and that they had emailed me. No phone call/voicemail. While there happened to be an opening in a different time slot about an hour later, I would've appreciated a phone call, communication seems to be lacking and it was off putting to show up only to be told to leave. Bad business. - Classes are a bit hectic for newcomers, I feel like I could've used an intro session to get my puppy used to the equipment before throwing her into it. They give you a very limited amount of time to do this during consultations. - ventilation in this place is awful. I realize there is a pool, but the heat and humidity is unreal. Needs windows, fans. Overall, the place is a little gimmick-y and I feel like I personally wasted my money. We are now attending another training group and she is doing very well, so I think it just depends on your pup and the environment they thrive in. read more

Well thank you for taking the time explaining yourself but your reply shows exactly that your evaluation doesn't make sense and that your trainer was not professional. Your trainer wore a 1 METER WIDE (not exaggerating) panda head costume to 'stimulate' my dog, can I ask what situation is this trying to simulate? Are your trainers gonna wear that to train all the time? Or will other dog/owner wear that in your facility? Even that, your trainer declaimed that my dog PASSED his test, but ironically I've already TOLD him he bit before and we are not looking to social with anyone bc of that, how effective is your test? Can you still say you are not pretending to know things? You couldn't even manage two dogs passing the same space that you had to play this funny 'same time' enter and exit trick that I never seen any training facility needed to use. If you say you don't force dogs to socialize, what did it mean when your trainer asked me if I was comfortable for him to bring several other dogs and see what happens? That's when I already said we were not looking for any form of class we just want to reserve the facility for to use ourselves. If you don't provide private facility reservation just say you don't have that, or if you don't have the expertise to handle all dogs , say you can't, don't go over all the process to 'prove' and say it's the dog's problem and blame the dogs. read more

This place is for you if you have a high energy dog, with basic skills, and need to learn how to burn energy at home in a small place. I have experience with an older dog at a facility where I used to live. I decided to try Martial Arfs with my new puppy. This is a horrible place to do basic puppy training. They throw in all this balance equipment instead of focusing on basics. Its like telling someone " you have bad squat form, let me put you on a unstable surface and see if I can show you". It is basically personal training gimmic. They also put puppy's on dangerous agility equipment. I saw a 3 lb Yorker puppy 6 feet in air on a frame. Not good. All the classes are the same and just rapidly go through drills. The trainers give almost no individual attention and pointers. Just saw "good job spot" and keep walking or go look at format from boss on their computer/ check their phone. In the past I have signed up for an 8 class package at other facilities. You progress week to week on 2-3 skills. The instructor give individual attention and pointers to each dog. You see progress and have homework. Martial Arfs is the opposite. Basic package is $390 and now I am stuck for 12 sessions. Summary:owner tried a super gimmicky place to be different than other places. Overall I will not be returning. read more

GREAT PLACE FOR GROUP CLASSES, BUT LOOK ELSEWHERE FOR ONE ON ONE TRAINING. I love Martial Arfs. You won't find anything like it around and provides a multitude of exercise classes for your dog. But I recently adopted another pooch who needed some socializing skills and immediately thought of Martial Arfs group classes. However, after signing up for 12 group classes with a bit of upselling it was obvious that one on one training was necessary after he failed to make it through without being completely distracted and anxious with the other dogs. Although there is a strict no refund or transfer policy, Martial Arfs allowed me to transfer the funds only after a bit of convincing for their one on one training. So we are roughly around $450.00 at this point. I was frustrated and surprised to find that they revolve trainers. I was assigned a different trainer for each weekly session we scheduled. Each trainer had their own technique and we didn't build on training from the previous session to get him in a better place. Which I discussed again and again with each trainer how important consistency is to me because I am basing his response to these sessions on whether this dog is a good fit for city living or if he's too anxious and will need to be rehomed. Even after calling and requesting a specific trainer due to the reasons stated above, upon arriving they again switched it up. So unfortunately, I would seek one on one training for any dogs elsewhere. read more

First time fur-mom ever and was in dire need of some direction on how to train my 10 month old boxer-pit rescue. Martial Arfs individual classes and trainers have helped me and my dog tremendously. While he still has a long way to go.... I find their strategy of training much better than others I have researched. Their pricing IMO is very reasonable compared to individual trainers that cost $600 for 4 training sessions. What's great is after he is trained he can go to group classes with other dogs. This may not be the right strategy for everyone but it's great for me and my dog. The real kicker is that you have to constantly apply the techniques. It's not easy especially with the age and mixed breed of my dog but I am seeing success in a short period of time. We've been doing this for about a year and my pup is a completely different dog. We even took big breaks and she can remember what we worked on before. Before she wouldn't let us cuddle her. She'd nip us if we tried to hug her. Now, she snuggles and loves belly rubs. Today we started agility. We had tried a group class before and she kept barking at other dogs & was afraid if half the obstacles. So today we took a private class and the trainer got my dog over her fear of all of the obstacles. My terrier now listens to me! She understands my commands. Doesn't always follow them, but I know her better and I can keep her safe. The other day, her leash clasp suddenly came off of her collar. We live in an area with very fast drivers. Instead of running away, she sat when I gave her the command. I was able to get the leash back on without a problem. This isn't the same dog that entered Martial Arfs before!! read more

Look elsewhere, the focus is on upsell and pressure tactics. We signed up for a package for our 1 year old puppy. The classes were ok, the trainers were more interested with their phones checking their emails, instagrams,or whatever than teaching class. If you get a package you will most likely repeat the same classes twice. The facility is not very clean,smells musky which may explain the dehumidifier running 24 7. When it rains the ceiling leaks, I got drops on my head during class. Also notice they leave the big 8 foot window open in front which is a saftey issue. I had two classes remaning but decided not to go back. As mentioned on other post, the refund credit policy is a joke, they take your money and don't care. Martial Arfs was instrumental in Oliver recovering from his hind limb injury. He learned proper exercises and at the same time he also became better behaved. They tailored a program that was constantly changing to keep his mind stimulated. He is now 100% sound and is loving group classes and swimming to keep his fitness level top notch. read more

I was really split between 2 and 3 stars. Our rescue dog This place came highly recommended by my friend who also has a severely anxious dog. Our rescue dog was unable to stay alone for more than 10 mins without ripping chargers out of the walls, dragging his entire metal playpen across the living room trying to escape and then pooping and peeing when he escaped (we had set up a camera in the house to see how he was). We previously medicated him so much he was so drowsy! So we needed additional training to help him cope with his separation anxiety. So I called and left a message to sign up for a consultation. I was called back almost immediately and met with Cassie that weekend. We loved Cassie and my dog seemed to take an almost immediate liking, which is HUGE! When we rescued him from an owner who neglected him for days at a time in a crate, he wouldn't look us in the eyes for weeks! He didn't drink or eat for almost 3 days! It did not take me a second thought to sign up for more than 20 classes that day for 1 on 1 lessons! We had Cassie for the first few weeks then we noticed we had different trainers. We were just shocked and confused because we had assumed we would just have Cassie, we were never told differently. After receiving an explanation from another trainer, Tina on the importance of exposing our dog to different trainers, we completely understood. I just wish the communication was more clear up front. There is also a big sign on the door that says to walk your pet within 30 mins of entering the facility because they do charge $3 for each time your pet poops or pees. However, my dog is there for severe anxiety (was already on meds, calming collar and had a belly band) and still had accidents due to anxiety. I was told by one trainer that he better be careful because I would be charged for every time he had an accident, even though we walked him once when we left the house and another when we got to the facility before his sessions. To their defense, yes, it is in their rules they give you when you sign up. However, it just gave me more anxiety because paying for classes up front was not cheap! I happened to call twice (once about the different trainers and then again about being charged for the pooping) and spoke with Tina both times. Both calls started off with her sounding defensive and I regretted the calls almost immediately both times. The facility is split separating the front and back. Our classes were primarily in the back part where there is also a pool. The floors are not in the best condition to begin with and my dog was very distracted with the sounds from the other classes going on. It was very difficult to keep him focused. He wouldn't take treats and at one point, the trainer suggested we bring steak (because we mentioned he had it for dinner once), to the next class; when we discussed our dog was so distracted on his walks with other dogs, we were told to have him eat outside.... I can't say we walked away with any helpful advice to pass on to his new owner. Unfortunately, my rescue needed A LOT more attention that we could give him at home and he made very little progress with training sessions so I had to give him up to someone who was home more often and could provide him with the attention he needed. When I had told one of the trainers, she started crying, which made me feel like she really cared for the animals that she trains. Because of their "strict no refund or transfer policy", she said she will call me back in a few days to discuss my options because I still have 15 sessions left. I would have loved to donate them to a foster or someone else who could use them. Well, long story short. No call for 2 weeks and I called and left a message to see if they came to some kind of resolution. I NEVER asked for a refund, just an option to donate the classes. I am more upset I didn't even receive a call back. This part makes me feel like it was all a load of crap, the crying and the whole "I care" part. The trainers here clearly love their animals but seem to lack in the communication with the human part. The humans who are paying for the classes. I was silly not to read these previous reviews before I went into this place and gave up more than a thousand dollars all for the love of my rescue believing he would get the best training. At least my baby is with someone who will provide him with better training than I did. This was my biggest regret when I had him. read more

I love this place! We took our foster dog here who needed conditioning after being hit by a car and he was always so excited to see the staff! I've only had good experiences and will be taking my newly adopted dog here for training and obedience classes. We worked with most of the staff but had a lot of 1-on-1 time with Cassie. She is a dream to work with and clearly has a passion for dogs! She's incredible at connecting with not only the dogs but their owners as well. read more

Love this place! I was looking for the perfect place during April to get my Husky's energy out and train her to survive the NY summer and every step of the way the girls have been amazing! Tina, Sam and Yemen are the sweetest and so helpful! I only wish they had a setting where the dog could while waiting hang out together! It would be so much fun to socialize during waiting times. Highly recommend! The trainers are awesome and are passionate about dogs. We have two puppies enrolled in classes and since attending they have become more focused. Communication between us and the puppies have greatly improved. Attended the KravMuttGa (focus & self Control) and agility classes with one pup- which is training disguised as fun! and we have private one-on-one with our more high-spirited Australian Shepard. Cannot wait until both can be in group classes. Referred friends and they love the classes as well. read more

Came in looking for information was encouraged to do an evaluation which I was told was $30. I explained from the moment I walked in that my dog was fearful to others and dogs so he might bark or growl. Not once was I told that This "behavior" would bump the evaluation price to $75. The evaluation was about 20 minutes and it was basically just telling me what package I should buy. Once I said I had to think about it because I was not going to sign up then and there, they told me that I had to pay $75 for the evaluation. I find this very unprofessional, and when I asked them why the spike in price they explained that it's because he has behavioral problems. I ended up paying but I find it a big steal because it was information I already knew such as my dog is fearful and my dog did not do anything that I had not already explained to them. I would not recommend to anyone who is trying to find help for fearful dogs. Had I been told that the evaluation price was 75 I would have never done it. read more
