I did not use the services of Martes Refinishing, however I am writing this review because I wanted to share my appreciation for their professionalism, honesty and integrity. Our condo property had an old tub that I thought needed to be refinished, so I contacted Martes Refinishing. I immediately got a call back from Doug and we setup a date-time for him to come evaluate the tub and provide me with an estimate. Much to our surprise Doug enlightened me that tub was in great condition, did not need to be refinished and just needed to be cleaned up. He even provided me with detailed instructions on how to clean up the tub, which I ended up following and much to my delight I now have a nice clean looking tub. I will definitely be reaching out to Doug should I ever have a need for his services in the future. Thank you Doug!!!! read more

I found Martes Refinishing on Yelp and based on the reviews and the great pics I called him right away. Doug the owner was very responsive and got back to me right away which I really liked. We made an appointment and he came by to meticulously make sure my tub was perfect. He even came back the second day to put the shower doors back on and to make sure the job was completed professionally. I had attempted to do this a while back and I was so surprised at the companies that wouldn't do a re-glaze. There are so many out there uncertain on how to do this so don't waste your time looking. Take my advice and use Doug. He's amazing, sweet and professional! read more

I was referred to Martes Refinishing by a third party, who told me that their friend used "Doug" of Martes Refinishing to do a job. I called Martes and left a voicemail, asking for Doug to call me back. The next day, Doug called me back. I told him about a bathtub in a rental unit I manage and asked for a quote to refinish/re-glaze the tub. He was forthright and explained the ifs, ands and buts. He told me the more they had to sand, strip (etc.) the tub, the more it would cost, but no more than about $400.00. Doug sounded like a good guy and a real person. I didn't even shop it further. I just made an appointment for the next day. Doug showed up as promised. He and a helper dry sanded the tub (which I preferred and which is the proper way to do it, as opposed to using a stripping agent), cleaned up old caulk on the tub edges and abutments to the tile and then did their magic for the finish. He came back this AM and cleaned up the taped off areas, polished the tub and applied finish caulk lines as needed. Couldn't be happier with the high-end quality work. Doug is an exceptionally personable individual and is obviously as honest as the day is long. I recommend Doug and his company for tub re-finishing/re-glazing. read more

Our acrylic tub in Sunset Beach had two hairline cracks in it. Doug did a great job patching the cracks and then refinishing the tub. He came back the following day to check on his work and caulk the tub. Doug is super personable and great to work with. Highly recommended! read more

I was recommended to Martes Refinishing from another company in Huntington Beach. I called the number several times and left a message but nobody picks up nor returns my call. I even called the 866 number from accessbath website but that number was no longer in service. Such a shame since this company came highly recommended and all the stellar reviews. All the recent reviews are from year 2020. Maybe they are no longer in business?? read more

I have a 6 month old baby that was getting too big to bathe in the sink. Our bath tub was old, and not functional for bathing. I thought the tub needed to be replaced. I was referred to Doug and was shocked at what he could do. He removed the doors as we wanted, refinished the tub to look and feel brand new, and installed a new drain cover. We could not be happier and would refer him to anyone looking for an upgrade to their bathroom for a reasonable price. read more

Doug was absolutely fantastic. We had an old tub that was very dingy and just could not get clean no matter how hard we tried. It was a beautiful old tub that we did not want to get rid of. I called around and Doug quoted me $400 which was in line with most of the estimates I got. There was one place that offered to do it for $250 but the reviews were mixed and I did not want to have to do this job twice. Doug showed up on time and was friendly and kind. He explained the process to me, took a look at the tub and said that his estimate of $400 would not change and got to work. He laid down drop cloths and treated our place with care and respect. He also did everything he could to minimize the smell from the tub. The work took about four hours, it dried over night and he came back the next day to clean up and make sure it dried properly. In the end, the tub turned out beautifully, it's like we have a brand new tub. You might be able to find someone who can do the work a little cheaper, but you get what you pay for, and Doug is a real professional who does top quality work for a fair price. read more

Martes Refinishing - I wish I had taken a before shot. But the tub was almost the same color as the old tile on the floor. - Refinishing Services Near Me - El Segundo, California

Doug is the consummate professional, showed up on time, gave an honest estimate, then delivered 100% plus. I am so happy with my tub finish, looks brand new. He installed a grab bar, which is great. He did the job quickly, following all Covid protocols, using a ventilation system he designed. I felt very comfortable with him in my home, he wore a mask the entire time. So happy with his work, thank you Doug! Lois Thomas read more

Wow WOW!!! What an amazing tub restoration!!! WHAT? (I think Doug put in a brand new tub and just told me he fixed the old one) No way you'll find a better place, I mean, no one can do better, faster, cleaner, cheaper, nicer... And that's the name of that tune. read more

We had a fantastic experience working with Doug! My husband and I bought our first house last year--a 1964 ranch-style home. The previous owner never made updates to the house. The hall bathroom had the original pink tub. We couldn't stand the color and we always covered it with a shower curtain. We received bids for a complete remodel of the tub and tile from a few contractors. The bids ranged between $8,000 and $10,000--money we didn't want to commit to right now. So instead, we investigated re-glazing to make the tub look better, and to save money. We picked Martes Refinishing based on their good reviews on Yelp and another website. And we're glad we did! Doug and Mary were great to speak with. They quoted us a price over the phone and answered all questions we had. Doug did the re-glazing himself. He was professional, courteous, fun, and had a sense of humor about things. He was also very considerate of listening to our needs. He suggested adding a non-skid surface to the bottom of the tub to prevent slipping. Safety is important for us as we are expecting our first baby this Spring. But Doug went beyond that. We've had a couple plumbers look at the the original pitted drain cover in the bottom of the tub. No one wanted to attempt to change it for us suggesting it would break and cost hundreds to repair. But Doug went to a shop and found just the right drain cover we needed and installed it without any problems. He also changed the drain lever. All of this extra service for a very fair price. We expect that that the tub re-glazing won't last forever, but for now we are so incredibly happy with the results. We plan to update a few more things in the bathroom. Once we're done with our mini-remodel, we'll no long be embarrassed to have company over. We're proud to show off our "new" tub! read more

Doug refinished my 70s Santa Monica bathtub a year ago and it still looks like new! He really knows what he's doing, cares about the quality of his work, and pays close attention to detail. He and his wife run the business and both are very professional--a true pleasure to deal with. I can't recommend him highly enough! read more

Doug and Martes Refinishing not only did an amazing job but was on time and had a great attitude. They stripped my tub down, replaced the drain, re-glazed and final polish. I worked in the home remodeling business for a long time and this is great work. read more

We couldn't find a new sink that happily fit the space of our 1928 bathroom, so decided to take a chance on having the old one reglazed. We heard stories saying that it will look awful. Well, they evidently never saw the work of Doug Martes. Our sink is now beautiful. Looks brand new. He takes pride in his work and it shows. Friendly, helpful and easy to work with. Highly recommend. read more

Doug is easy going and does a terrific Job ! ! Flexible work schedule and has the tools for doing the job right.

Doug Martes did an outstanding job on our old tub that had been glazed 30 years ago and was in horrible condition. I wanted to keep it because it's deep and you just can't beat a cast iron tub for holding the heat of the bath water. The sink was pretty much in the same condition, with some rust areas that could've been irreparable, but Doug did it and it looks new. Great guy and a joy to have around! read more

We don't know how the work is because they flaked out on the job less than 24 hours before it was scheduled. The owner called the day before the job because he wasn't happy with what his employee quoted for the job. Instead of giving me a new quote, he said I asked the employee "too many questions", and simply cancelled the job. Was extremely unprofessional. read more

Problem? Really cute 1 bedroom/1 bath apt with an extensively damaged bathtub - don't ask me how the tenant did that! Additional problem? Upstairs apt. Total cost for removal (upstairs additional) of old porcelain-over-steel tub, purchase of comparable new tub, delivery of new tub (upstairs additional), & installation of new tub? High...sigh. Martes Refinishing did a fantastic job refinishing the existing tub...Doug Martes made an inspection/estimate appointment and was there when he said he would be. Mary Martes called me the next day to set the appointment to get the job done. The guys doing the work showed up on time, were clean and neat, cleaned up after themselves, and finished when they said they would - and left what looks like a sparkling brand new tub. Cost? Approximately 1/3 of the cost of a comparable new tub - delivered and installed. I couldn't be more satisfied. It was a great experience, I highly recommend Martes Refinishing. read more

If you are thinking about refinishing your tub, do it! Doug refinished our 1940s tub a year ago and it still looks brand new. I was worried - before we committed - that the refinish/re-glaze wouldn't last very long because I had read about that possibility "somewhere" on the internet. We were given a 5 year warrantee and I still couldn't be happier with the results. The price of refinishing sure beats what we would have paid to tear out the old tub and install a new one. The important thing is careful cleaning with something like 409 and perhaps once in a while a tub and tile cleaner such as the brand CLR. Nothing should be used to scratch the surface such as a product like Comet or Soft Scrub. I'm still amazed at how beautiful it looks. Thanks for your great service too. read more

Doug did a wonderful job on the tub and shower in our rental house, which were badly in need of a facelift. We also had him do the bathtub in our own home. Everything now looks like new! Doug is friendly, professional, prompt and does great quality work. I would recommend him to anyone looking to have this type of work done. read more

Doug knows what he's doing, he is thorough, and he takes pride in his work. Great experience.

Here is the thing, I got my bath refinished about 6 years ago by Martes Refinishing. They gave me a 7 year warranty on their work as long as I followed the guidelines they laid out. It is 6 years later and my tub began to peel, I called, they came out right away and finished the tub again. This is an excellent company that does excellent work and has EXCELLENT customer service. I won't hesitate to recommend Martes to friends, family or anyone who is looking for a good refinisher and I will definitely use them again! read more

Had a 50 year old sink that someone dropped a hand machine in and cracked and broke the porcelain. Doug came out and fixed the hole / crack and reglazed it to look like new. We had him glaze the other sink to match. If this sink could not be repaired we would have had to tear out the whole vanity. Great job, on time and communication was professional. I recommend them. read more

Martes Refinishing has done quite a few jobs for my family over the years. However, the refinishing of my two bathroom required fixing a year later and I was charged for it. He does great work, but get in writing all work and warranties so that you don't get an unexpected bill after a verbal agreement. read more

Doug did a great job refinishing our bathtub and countertop! Very nice guy. Fast and professional.

Doug, owner of Martes Refinishing, did a terrific job reglazing our tub. Martes was the 3rd company we tried; company #1 failed to show up at the appointment time three times in a row; company #2 did a shoddy job for slightly less money than Martes charges. Doug was prompt, efficient, and professional. His equipment and technique was far superior to the other company. He undid the shoddy work that company #2 did and the tub now looks terrific. Highly recommend him. read more
