7/1/16--Update since my last review: I am downgrading my rating of this restaurant, yet again. Went there on Friday before a long holiday weekend, and the experience was simply poor. Perhaps it was due the long holiday weekend, and they did not have their normal staff on duty. But, that is simply not acceptable. Arrived on Friday night at 6:30, and overall, the restaurant was very quiet. Usually, on a Friday night, the restaurant (and specifically, the bar) are very busy. Ordered martinis, and they were still being made without the use of the lids on the shakers-just the bartender's hand on top of the shaker. When I asked why they don't use lids, the bartender responded "because they keep getting lost..." I then told her I wanted to change my order to a different cocktail, and she said "I can go get a lid and make it with the lid on the shaker...". Question: if they have the lids available, why are they not using them?? After all, every other bar has the same issue with lids, and they don't seem to lose them! Martinis arrived, and they were poorly prepared, and were barely cold. Due to the bartender being very nice, decided to stay and ordered the crab cakes and the cold stuffed artichoke. The crab cakes were solid-not great, but solid. The artichoke was so undercooked that the leaves were still raw in the center. Brutal. Returned the artichoke. To the credit of the manager on duty, she came out and thanked us for bringing it to their attention and acknowledged/agreed that the artichoke was very undercooked. Nice touch from a service perspective. Overall, this was one of those drinking and dining experiences that can change your desire to return. BUT, the service was very good, and pleasant, even with the issues described, and I will give them another chance. I have been a semi-regular at Martell's for the last 6-12 months, and truly hope they fix these issues. Disappointed. Last thought: USE the lids on the martini shakers, when making martinis!!! Or, give the customer a choice: "would you prefer I shake your martini with a lid on the shaker, or would you prefer that I use my hand on the top of the lid, so that you can get all of the bacteria and lotion and whatever else is on my hand, in your martini?".......Ok. I'm done now.
1/20/16--Update since my first review: although the food, beer, and wine choices continue to range from good to excellent, I have downgraded my review based on some issues with the bar and specifically the cocktails. The bar must get lids for their martini shakers! Or, if they do have lids, then the bartender should use the lids, versus using the palm of her hand to hold the top of the shaker, while she is shaking a martini. Aside from the obvious issue of having whatever is on her hands, getting into your martini/cocktail, it limits her ability to thoroughly shake a martini to get it extremely cold. It makes the experience "less".
11/20/15--Although the restaurant is a bit dated in layout and design, the food is excellent and the bar offerings are very solid (i.e. beer, wine, and cocktail choices). The menus is varied and the daily specials are usually excellent. The setting and view from the dining area is very nice. read more
