We've been coming to Marston's since it opened in Valencia. It's my daughter's favorite place for French Toast. I typically order either the Pulled Pork Benedict or the Huevos Rancheros with Chili. Both are really good. Food is consistently well-prepared and the service always friendly. We've been seated inside and outside. Although we prefer the outside, at this visit there were just too many tables crowded together. We've also tried having dinner here a couple times and prefer the breakfast menu more. read more

It's true love! Let me explain. If you follow me, you know I consider Santa Clarita a remote alient outpost when it comes to culinary excellence. But! Every so often I am surprised and Marston's is a revelation. Now, in full disclosure, I had frequented the original Pasadena Martson's some twenty years ago, mostly for breakfast. It was charming, rustic, cottage-cozy and all that good stuff. I don't remember the food other than, well, good. Then for some celestial reason, Chef McCardy decided to put one in Valencia and I sort of ignored it for years, for some unknown reason. We had a group this weekend and wanted a mid-day place to celebrate a birthday and get a warm, hearty breakfast to dispel the clouds and cold that has hung over Los Angeles for the past month. Marston's was getting some positive attention. I could kvell endlessly but let's sum it up: great location, excellent quality, immaculate, homey in an upscale way (the entire ceiling was bejeweled in Tiffany style light fixtures -- see in photo), and a deep, broad, sophisticated, elegant menu, all of which was available. Like what? Florentine Benedict, Soy Chorizo Burrito, French Toast festooned with toasted flakes, Butterscotch Pudding with real scotch liquor, Key Lime Pie, Bread Pudding with a zabaglione-like Grand Marnier sauce, Grilled Artichoke with dipping sauce, Giant Tuna Melt on home-made bread, with what must have been fresh Ahi -- I failed to take a couple of the pictures because we dove into our brunch like a pack of ravenous wolves. Chef McCardy was there overseeing the cheerful efficient staff. Our server Steven was so attentive, covered in smiles. There is amazing, abundant parking, a lovely outdoor heated dining area, the setting is against a beautifully landscaped hillside giving the dining experience a garden-like vibe through giant, spotless windows. Went to brunch, 11:00am reservation, highly recommend making a reservation because the place was packed and we found out later, for good reason. The restaurant is smaller than it appears from outside but they have big time smiles and friendly service, had the hometown diner feel to it. I always enjoy my vists here. Wait staff are always great! Food was delicious minus the country potatoes. They were bland and needed flavor. They are a bit mushy. Potatoes need to be soaked in water prior to cooking in order to make them nice and crispy. Before toast was served on a separate plate and now they're on my breakfast plate making it soft and not keeping it toasty. We rented the patio for our wedding ceremony and reception. Jim worked with us and came up with a menu that our guests thoroughly enjoyed. The servers, Hannah and Steve were exceptional! So we came here several years ago for breakfast with the kids and was not impressed. I finally decided to give it another shot over the Summer and came for dinner with the wife. It was a complete 180. We sat outside on the covered patio. There was a nice little breeze and it was a beautiful night. They had great, friendly service with a smile. I had the rigatoni with sausage: fantastic. My wife enjoyed her meal too. Great tasting drinks, wine, and yes, they have block ice cubes. The only down part was that I tried calling for days before to make a reservation but no one answers their phone. Ever. Luckily we didn't have to wait for a table. Great experience. I was there for lunch, and yes, the restaurant was busy, but it was not full, and the sound level was so high, that we had to raise our voices to just talk to each other across the table. The house potatoes were cooked well - I like the yummy caramelized onion bits. The potatoes were a little salty, but like most veggie omelets - the omelet was not salty, so they balance together perfectly. My omelet came with a choice of bread, but I ended up enjoying (several) of my friend's cheese popovers that came with her meal. These were quite lovely - cheese, herby, and a little spicy heat. One word... POPOVERS. The complimentary cheese popovers with dinner are divine. They have the perfect taste and consistency, plus they're free. I also highly recommend ordering the goat cheese beignets, as they are full of flavor and have the perfect crunch with a smooth, melt-in-your-mouth filling. The California orange salad was refreshing and the photo in my review is only a half portion, which was plenty when paired with a couple appetizers. Onto the breakfast portion, the house potatoes are delicious! They're filled with grilled vegetables and the potatoes were hot, perfectly cooked, and well-seasoned. I ordered The Works French toast and was very impressed with the presentation and execution. Every single element was fresh and full of flavor along with being cooked to perfection. Finally, my dad ordered the pulled pork sandwich and WOW that pork was so freaking good. The meat was cooked to perfection, covered in just the right amount of sauce, and paired with delicious caramelized onions. My family and I took a staycation and went for breakfast on Saturday around 10 AM and were told that the wait for first available would be 30 minutes, but then in 10 minutes our table was ready. Good, I don't like waiting for breakfast. The host said he has a table on the patio and I told him fine as long as it isn't in direct sun, he said it wasn't and we went out to the table where half was in full sun. I told him that was not going to work and two bus boys and several other staff debated about seating for several minutes as we stood and waited while they cleaned two tables NOT in the sun. Our server though was very nice bringing this up from the one star I would have given it to the two. My wife and I decided to split an omelet and a 1/2 order of blueberry pancakes (which turned out to be one pancake each @ $8.95). The omelet was split as well and served with a side of potatoes. The omelet itself was extremely overcooked and the cheese was congealed making it a very bland and hard dish. The potatoes were saved only by a generous helping of hot sauce for flavor. I haven't been here before even though my wife and son had on previous occasions but I won't be back again. Not worth the money for breakfast. read more

This review is long overdue, this incident happened at the end of December 2024 . Food is great! Service is a disgrace. I took my friends out for brunch for their 38 year anniversary. First issue, I ordered the potatoes in particular way, they arrived incorrectly. The waitress, Marie chose to challenge me versus offering to switch them out. At the end of the meal, we ordered a dessert for the table in celebration of their anniversary, we ordered the strawberry cheesecake, the sauce that arrived was blue. It tasted like blueberry or something at the like. yet again the server chose to argue and insist that it was strawberry it simply looked blue, seriously?? Had it not been for the celebration of my dear friends I would've followed up with the manager, but as to not make a scene I sucked it up. No one spoke or even acknowledged me when I entered the restaurant. My friend had made a reservation for our lunch. When she arrived a hostess has come to answer the phone without glancing our way. My friend was finally acknowledged when she pointed to her name on the reservation list. Dishes going by looked good. I ordered the grilled chicken pesto sandwich from the lunch menu. Our server wasn't familiar with it, but the ingredients looked promising. It turned out to be chicken sausage, I double checked the description to be sure it wasn't an oversight on my part, but it clearly stated "grilled chicken" without the word sausage anywhere...I don't love sausage. The server kindly replaced it with a delicious chicken club sandwich. The truffle fries lack truffle flavor at all. I will give it another try.
