I had a coupon for Marstons that I kept for years, my friend from San Francisco came by to visit in Southern California and we came and chose this place. The outside looked quaint, it had an outside patio and a beautiful interior. The waitress at the front was pleasant to talk to and I had a great time asking about the menu and what was popular. I ordered the ravioli pasta with butternut squash filling, it was about $20 and to be honest, I did not enjoy it personally. However my friend ordered the linguini pasta for $26 and it had chicken and shrimp in it with a creamy Parmesan sauce. It not only had a better taste, but quality and quantity were higher. I gave that dish a perfect score, I bought it again later the following week myself so I didn't have to share it this time around and my goodness, best pasta dish I ever had in my life although I shouldn't be eating it. Overall, the service was spectacular, food was delicious except the ravioli, and the selection of other things I'm willing to take a shot at in the future. You can really tell the chef and team take pride in their work. They also made me a special birthday flan that was absolutely incredible. I savored every bite. I've been coming to Marston's both in Pasadena and Valencia for many years now. Most of their menu items are really outstanding, some are just ok and some are not so great. I have to say they make phenomenal blueberry pancakes! Probably the best you'll ever taste. You don't even need syrup that's how tasty they are. Today I had the Grandma's Oatmeal with all the fixins on the side and side of egg whites. Loved their oatmeal. I personally don't care for their breakfast potatoes. Everyone has their own taste for what breakfast potatoes should be and these aren't it for me. Service has always been great. Our server Tricia was amazing and made sure to circle back to make sure everything was ok. The restaurant itself is quaint inside and has outdoor seating. Plenty of parking. It does get very busy mid-morning. The one major negative that I noticed today is that when paying the bill and the machine asks you for a tip - the tip is calculated with the tax included which I think is a bit sneaky. The tip amount should be calculated on the subtotal of the bill without the taxes. I'm a big tipper especially when service is outstanding. This really should be changed. read more

Marston's had me at the stack of warm rolls they served our table before the main meal. Soft, fluffy, savory and melt in your mouth; we couldn't stop stuffing these muffin-shaped puffs into our mouths. I think they're called poppers, and they're the bomb. On to the entrees -- my fish tacos came perfectly grilled with a bit of char on the outside and a nice side of black beans. Filling and super tasty. My partner's spinach salad brought together a great combo of cheese pears and greens, with a lovely dressing. Our drinks -- G&T and an Old Fashioned -- were balanced and well mixed, not too weak, not too strong. Awesome This location isn't huge but it has a warm and cozy -- and maybe a bit upper-scale -- ambiance, with a couple of semi-separate dining areas and a bar. There's outdoor seating too. I rarely write reviews like this, but I feel genuinely obligated to WARN others with FOOD ALLERGIES. I have a severe nut allergy and have now had multiple unsafe experiences at this restaurant. On two separate occasions, I found nuts in my salad after clearly informing the server of my allergy. Most recently, I tried to play it as safe as possible by ordering a simple, made-to-order egg salad sandwich. I again emphasized my allergy and asked that the kitchen be notified. While eating my sandwich, I found a piece of pecan mixed in. To be clear, the servers have always been kind and attentive, and I don't place blame on them. The issue is with the kitchen's handling of allergens and lack of proper precautions. It is a serious health risk. If you have a nut allergy, I strongly recommend AVOIDING this restaurant. It's a big disappointment as I think they have decent food but cross-contamination or careless preparation here could have severe consequences for those with allergies read more

My wife and I have been going to Marston's for many years. All of their food is good, but their breakfast and lunch menu outshine the dinner menu. They have a pleasant build-out and an attentive staff. They are often busy for breakfast, so you may have to wait a bit, but it's worth it. In addition to their inside dining, they have a good sized patio with shade cover, heaters and a fire pit. Our go-to for breakfast is the Old Town Omelette. It's a large omelette, filled with cheese and topped with pico de gallo and a mild chili. It's served with home style potatoes and choice of toast or English muffin. It has been a long time since I paid Marstons a visit. Let me start with the patio. It is much larger than I remember. The seating is comfortable, the tables are not on top of eachother, it is covered and enclosed from the parking lot, it is definitely quieter than inside and they have table fly spinners, which were needed. The menu is extensive for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and cocktails. The bar area and dining room together provides a lot of seating options, but also gets very loud when filled. We sat outside; didn't need them but there were outdoor heaters throughout. Our server was attentive and nice. She was hustling the entire time as I think they were short staff, but we never felt neglected. We ordered the ricotta scramble and 7 grain pancakes to split . The scramble arrived on a large plate atop two pieces of sourdough toast. The eggs were lightly scrambled with ricotta cheese, avocado and herbs on top - so creamy and tasty. We ordered a half order of pancakes which was more than enough to split. We enjoyed the heck out of them and the strawberries, blackberries and bananas on top. We had told our server we were going to split both orders and she brought us 2 empty plates in advance which was very considerate. The prices reflect the quality of food and doing business in SVC. We came here after many years for a Saturday before Easter Brunch. My son had the Chicken Chilaquiles- the tortilla needed to be a little more crispier. The flavor was great tho ! My daughter in law had a salmon wrap...very yummy! ! The other food besides what I had was just regular breakfast food. (I may have made up that fact) but the fact that this place is so delicious you could have my made up malarkey be a certified accreditation. Fun little space with plenty of interesting decor and a board with specials and specialty drinks. This place is awesome, not to be confused with other restaurants around town this is THE Chef McC we're talking about and his establishment is quite top notch. The health food taste healthy and drinks are usually VERY tasty. Think my server was a bit preoccupied between serving us and taking phone orders. But she managed to pull it off. I completely and wholeheartedly endorse the pulled pork Benedict. It's the signature dish here. Simply you cannot go wrong with it. We made a reservation for May 4 for 11 people at 10:30am. We checked in at 10:20. We were not seated until. We were not seated until after 11:00. Everyone else that were just walking up with no reservations were seated. Good and service was fine after we were seated, but last year we ran in to the same situation. If a reservation is made at any restaurant, a table should be ready. We had a large group which is the reason we made the reservation a week in advance. I've passed by this little breakfast and lunch spot for years and finally decided to give it a try. I walked inside and it was packed , everyone seemed to be enjoying their meals as well as each other's company. The decor was straight to the point, dine in seating. Even though it was almost lunchtime, I was really in the mood for breakfast. I ordered the two eggs and sausage breakfast with a blueberry pancake on the side. The eggs were cooked just right, and the sausage had great flavor, really tasty! The blueberry pancake wasn't my favorite, it was a little flat and dry, but still edible. Marston's is a regular go to for us. It's Always first rate. The menu selection is excellent and their lunch pretty much beats the quality and flavor of most other restaurants in the Valencia area. And service is excellent! We've often had a fun and smart server named Celastina . She brings talent and joy to her job and her clientele. Came to Marston's for Sunday brunch and it was quite packed, inside and outside! We waited for our table and were seated pretty quickly indoors. Most of us ordered breakfast items, I went with the San Pasqual omelete (bacon, cheddar and avocado) with a slice of rye toast and their potatoes. We also ordered their french toast for the table. Food came out very quickly, service was really attentive, even the owner was working around the restaurant. Omelets were pretty good, decent amount of ingredients, but a little lacking in the meat. The potatoes are okay, I do like how they add onions and peppers to it. The French toast was phenomenal, had a crunchy corn flake layer on the outside giving it great texture and flavor. The decor reminded me of the 90s a little bit. It has a typical breakfast place feel to it. The food came out at a normal speed. I ordered the powerhouse omelet and my fiancé got the huevos rancheros. We also split the French toast with corn flakes. I thought the omelet was lacking flavor and very bland. This was my first time eating there so I asked the nice lady who escorted us to our seats what would she recommend from the menu. The hostess recommend The Works French toast. Well I ordered the Denver omlett with chicken maple sausage, potatoes and a side order of The Works French toast. THE FOOD WAA ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! MARSTON'S IS A TRUE HIDDEN GEM! Income to this place often due to work and it's really not my favorite by any means. For one, why block off two parking spaces with plants right in front? The parking is already shit and then you fee like putting my trees in two from spots? ....welcoming... Anyways, today when we went of course we walk in and stand there for a few kind waiting for someone to acknowledge us. We get seated...we're waiting maybe 5 mins or so, a waitress walks by "we'll be right with you", another 5-10mins goes by and the same waitress walks by again "we'll be right with you". Staff then disappears for at least 15 mins. I see one or two waitresses going to the outside area but everyone else is no staff. Finally they start showing up again. Again the lady walks by "we'll be right with you" and the a guy walks by "we'll be right with you". A few minutes later the lady and the guy both come to our table because apparently he's on training so she needs to stand there.... I ordered a side of soup and was asked with my meal or before, I said with. As soon as they put the order in my soup comes out by itself.... The lady notices and come by and says "I guess he didn't hear you say with your meal" as she touches my arm. ....don't freaking touch me.... And what's the point of standing there if he's still going to get things incorrect, shouldn't you be going over the order or something with him to make sure things are correct if you have to use this weird buddy system. Annoying to say the least. I will definitely be suggesting other places when it's lunch time for us. When I lived in the SCV, this was one of my spots. In many ways, this was a "kitchen" long before any others claimed to be. Jim is the owner and chef. He works there lol. On one of my very first visits, he made me an old fashioned with Templeton Rye. I told him I didn't care for rye, but he said trust me and I did give it a try and it was excellent. Over the years I would show up for breakfast lunch or dinner and the food and service never disappoint! Several years ago, I asked Marston's to help provide lunch for 50 or so clients on location for a solid week. I told him I needed something sweet too. He recommended the bread pudding. Yuk. I don't like bread pudding. He said trust me. I did and it was a huge hit. I loved it too! I moved from the SCV 5 years ago but made my way back today. I decided to stop by Marston's. We visited Marston's late one Sunday morning after a memory of a great experience years ago at their Pasadena location. Our diets and preferences have changed a little bit (ie my gluten-free wife was no longer going to order the blueberry pancakes which she remembers as being phenomenal) but we found an extensive menu with lots to choose from, and of course since it's a breakfast menu, we vegetarians had lots of options. Minor initial disappointment in that the coffee was just okay. A little bit weak for my tastes. I like a super strong coffee and find that many breakfast places which, of course, have coffee, often don't prepare it right and it comes ot you as slightly flavored browned water. This was a little bit better than that, but, again, not as strong as I wanted it to be. My wife and I both got egg dishes. I had the Just eggs with potatoes and an english muffin. These did the job and gave me the descent diner experience I was looking for. My wife thought the same for her florentine which she got without the English muffin as she is gluten-free. It would be nice if they offered a gluten-free bread option of any kind. Our kid had the soyrizo burrito which, even for his teenage metabolism, was generous enough in size that it lasted for 2 meals. Marston's has a slightly more nicer/upscale vibe than your average diner in town and you can get just about anything you want for breakfast. Usually we come here and it's amazing but unfortunately that was not the case. We made reservations at 10:40. We got there at about that time. They said we can't sit and eat yet because our reservations are at 10:50 but we knew that wasn't true. We waited until we asked how much longer and they said you can't sit your reservations are at 11:00 which is not fair. We finally got seated and our service sucked.
