I ate at Marston's for the first time yesterday, accompanied by my girlfriend and her cousin. Girlfriend ordered a turkey sandwich, saving half for me that I could have for dinner. She hadn't said anything about whether she liked it, so in the evening a bit into the sandwich to find PROCESSED turkey meat. Not only was it processed but it had a rubbery consistency and was the worst processed meat I've ever tasted...the texture so bad that it buried the taste! I called my girlfriend shortly afterward and she reported the same reaction as I had but hadn't wanted to bring it up at lunch as I was paying the bill ($80 for the three of us). I had the Chinese chicken salad, which was a two-star meal and not nearly as good as the Chinese chicken salad served at a restaurant located in the same shopping plaza. Girlfriend's cousin didn't mention whether she enjoyed her sandwich (a different sandwich) but Girlfriend said it looked like it was mostly lettuce. I am vacillating between one or two stars for this place. While the food was a zero, we had good service and a nice ambiance. read more

While the Pulled Pork Benedict is one of life's greatest pleasures and in the Top 5 of all dishes in Santa Clarita Valley, I went off plan and ordered The California Omelette this morning. Just the right combo of ingredients for what I wanted: Chicken cilantro sausage, spinach, tomato, cheddar cheese, avocado, and sour cream. I wanted to see how it was made as my own omelettes have become tired. Well I shouldn't have been surprised but I must say that this was the best omelette I have ever had. Why you ask? The first thing was the fluffy omelette itself. Not greasy or thin, but actually airy. In my mind, the whites were whipped separately and then the yolks were folded in, that is the only way I see it being done. The sausage with cilantro was in nice size cuts, plenty of spinach too. And the omelette was covered with a tangy cheddar that melted all over. Generous slices of avocado and a wallop of sour cream to top it all. This was a masterpiece and with sourdough toast and a superb cappuccino, breakfast today was pure joy and to make it even better my wife ordered the Pulled Pork Benedict so I got the double treat. A long delayed first time outing for Jackie and I. First impressions go a long way and we were pleased. Greeted by a friendly host and waited on by Matthew our server for the evening, we were well taken care of. After eating our complimentary bread, we were ready to order our entrees. My wife ordered the Smoked Chicken Macaroni & Cheese with veggies, while I had the Tri-Tip Sandwich and fries. Of course we shared with one another and enjoyed both choices. I wanted to take my sister out to a nice brunch place for her birthday and I'm so glad we ended up choosing here over other brunch eateries in the area. The only lament about this place is that the food takes FOREVERRRRR to come out. Still, the quality of the food is well-represented by the time it takes to wait so I'd much rather wait for quality than sacrifice that. The pulled pork benedict was everything I had hoped for. The hype was real and the taste was amazing. Unfortunately it didn't come with french toast but my friend offered me his and it was so good! I don't comprehend how they keep it crunchy and soft inside at the same time but I felt so guilty eating it since it was as good and sweet as dessert. The omelets were just okay in my opinion, but my sister and friend were happy so I was happy. Definitely a bit bland though so plan to use ketchup and/or hot sauce. They also offered to split our chicken tender kids menu order into two plates for the two kids, which was super sweet. The fruit that came with the dish were so fresh and I kept stealing the fruit from the kids' plates. The cheese popovers are nice and have a bit of a kick to them! The chicken and gorgonzala melt is surprisingly a burger style plate-I either didn't read it properly or it was misleading but it was good nonetheless! The food is really good but it was not very clean, which made it difficult to enjoy or trust entirely. For example, when I sat down, there was a glob of something sticky on the side of the table that I accidentally stuck my hand in, so you can tell it wasn't wiped very well. That happens sometimes though, understandable. Then when I unraveled my silverware, both the fork and knife had leftover food on it. The new set that they brought was better; also something that happens sometimes, so I looked past that too. But then when I put the cream in my coffee, milky flakes started floating in my cup. So the combination of all three of those things indicates that maybe this isn't the most sanitary place to dine. Like I said, the food was good & our service was good--but for how expensive it was, it didn't exactly meet the expectation. read more

Great breakfast spot. They efficiently seat you as you come in, regardless of the high demand they face. We came on a busy Saturday morning with a party of 7 and was able to be seated in 20 mins. Which in my books is really good, especially with the crowd lining up outside the restaurant. Service provided was accommodating and friendly. They answered all questions without having to 2nd guess and was knowledgeable of all their items. I asked for a recommended dish and it was "crunchy french toast" really good! Prices are very fair for what you're getting, and the restaurant itself is kept clean and appealing. Plenty of parking outside, which is a big Plaza in itself. Jim, the owner and head Chef knows exactly how to mix the right ingredients to stimulate your palette. Even the blackberry vodka lemonade was great!!! She rudely said order is not ready and will be ready when it's ready. I had 7 people waiting for their meal and it had already been paid for. 2 hours after Initially placing the order the meal was finally ready. We will not be ordering from here again, with the amount of time we wasted waiting for it makes more sense to drive to Pasadena's Marston instead. So disappointed. I understand that sometimes it's just not possible to take online orders and customers simultaneously, it's easy to turn off that feature on Yelp and not allow on-line orders. And not only did everyone get what they wanted, everything we chose was over the top delicious! I was not expecting a gourmet breakfast from a Yelp delivery. It was great! The ingredients were not only very fresh but also really good quality. On top of that, the food was made to perfection with all the right flavors. Now as always, I don't expect a lot when your ordering delivery. A lot can happen in the delivery transaction which is just part of the process. But even with delivery, the meal was excellent. I decided to drive all the way out to this restaurant (over 35 miles away) after I saw it listed as the "best brunch" in the Los Angeles Times. I went on a Wednesday because I've read that it's so crowded on weekends the wait is up to an hour. The good news: the food was good. Not great, but good. I've had foos just as good or better from restaurants a lot closer to me. I was going to order breakfast but I thought the "Rio Grande Tuna Melt" looked interesting. Although I didn't taste any chili in it (the menu says it has "ortega chili"), I liked it. The person I was with had the soup (don't remember the soup of the day) and half an egg salad sandwich which she said were both good. The bad news: I really didn't like the atmosphere. First, I was waiting for a car to pull out of a parking space when another car swooped in before I could park. It happened to me TWICE (although I know the restaurant has no control over that). Second, I didn't appreciate all the stares and dirty looks I got - including from one of the employees - because I'm still concerned about not getting COVID so I still wear a face mask when I entered the restaurant. I know someone that got COVID 2 days ago. Third, I didn't understand why there was a small line at the door (3 groups in line) when I counted at least 8 empty tables in the room. Overall, if it wasn't so far away I might go there again. Since it's over 35 miles away from me (one way) and since the food wasn't that good and since some other customers were rude, I won't ever return. read more

I was excited to get my favorite crab cakes and and an entree. Unfortunately that's where the excitement ended. The crab cakes looked good in their bed of greens but they were rubbery and not much crab taste, at $18 for 2 it was an expensive miss. Next on to the entrees. My ribeye was cooked right, medium rare but was covered in fat and rubbery as well. $33 miss. My guys salad was good but at $17 it could have been better. I did like the popovers.
