Horrible experience at Marshalls in San Bruno. My boyfriend found a beautiful ceramic Labrador retriever sculpture that is hard to find, but unfortunately it had no price tag. He politely asked an employee for help and even brought over a similar sculpture of a different dog breed that DID have a sticker so they could compare pricing. The employee took the Labrador sculpture to the front to get a price, then came back and specifically told us the item would be waiting for us up front to purchase. We then stood in line for nearly 20 minutes only to get to the register and discover the sculpture was nowhere to be found. The employee had disappeared, and when the other workers finally contacted her, she casually told them she "broke it trying to put the sticker on." No apology. No explanation. No effort to make it right. They didn't even let us see it to see how bad it was broken, we might have even still bought it if it was minimal. It honestly felt incredibly suspicious and unprofessional, especially after being told it would be held for us. If it truly broke, why did nobody bother to tell us while we were standing in line all that time? I think the employee wanted it herself. The entire situation was frustrating, disorganized, and handled terribly. Customer service here is clearly not a priority. Store is always a mess and line is always still so long when there's 5+ checkers !!!! read more

This store is really declining. Many racks full of moldy clothes. Staff said it wasn't their problem and left them. I took some down and told the manager. She told the staff to put it back on the rack after seeing all the mold! The staff just really needs to get themselves together. Whoever the manager is, they are doing a very poor job. The lines are always long any time of the day, any day of the week. Cashiers are slow and often standing around chatting. While I think they should be allowed that freedom since they are paid so low, they can't be expected to do much, standing around chatting while the lines are longer than 30 minute waits is ridiculous. Today, I tried on a few items, the lady at the fitting room cut off the garment tag and put 2 censors in the middle of the sleeve and leg on the clothes. Not in the seam, so now the clothes have holes. MANY of their clothes have censors in stupid places. Some skirts even have censors closing the opening of skirts so you're not allowed to try them on! So after waiting in line for about 47 minutes, the cashier made comments that she liked one of the items I brought up and that the price was so good. She was mesmerized. I just told her that I found all 4 of these items on the clearance rack and then she decided this tag isn't correct and it must be another price. She ripped off the 3 red tags and told me I have to pay the original price or leave it with her! She asked her friend and she told her to ask the manager, but she didn't. She just threw out the red tags from the merchandise and said it's not right. I said NO WAY. Your fitting room staff placed that on there TWICE. She literally cut it off and put it back on and put a censor on, then put ANOTHER censor on. This is the price because she didn't say it was a problem, and ALL THE OTHERS were priced the same. I know because I tried on 2 different sizes! There are more! Then I just said NO I don't need it. You can have it because that's obviously what she was causing a scene for. She was so upset and wanted to buy what I had. I told her to check the rack and she refused. She never called a manager. She was fake and claimed she will talk to people about it. The tag said women's active wear which it was so how did she think it was incorrect? I told her to scan it and it will show the correct item, she refused. I told her there were more and she refused to look. She just decided she wouldn't sell it to me and keep it for herself. She even took both censors off so I'm 100% positive she will steal it. I told her it's fine I don't need it. It probably has mold like everything else in this store. She rang up everything else without even looking at the tags because she didn't want to steal the other items. The dog items also had red tags and she didn't even check them either. She is an obvious thief. There really is no point in going to this store because they don't have any designer brands anymore. Everything is very generic, old and lower end. It looks like 90% of the clothes, shoes and bags for women are Steve Madden and Nanette Lepore. They haven't been popular since the 90s. Sure people still buy them, they're like an affordable staple like Target or Walmart. They had 1 very old Kate Spade bag from 3 years ago almost at full price, and 1 $349 dress that looked designer but was missing tags. It was also polyester! Wouldn't return. Haven't been here in months, that's why the store and sales are declining. Even though the store was pretty empty for a Friday, I was still in line over 30 minutes and the cashier was very rude and stopped to talk to her coworkers twice before scanning all my items. At least let me pay and leave. I felt like I was being held hostage and the store was a moldy hell. read more

This Marshall's is one of the most organized in the area with a great selection but it has the longest, slowest line ALWAYS. Several times I've given up and left my items because the wait was just not worth it! To clarify, the line is past the waiting aisles and wraps around it nearly every time I've been. You have to wait a minimum of 15-20 minutes and maximum of who knows how long. And I've been here at different hours of the day, between 11 am and closing time and it's the same long wait every time unfortunately. I avoid this Marshall's and go to the one in Colma or San Mateo. read more

The workers here are extremely rude. At the dressing room, there's a sign that says to hang garments, but in most stores that usually applies to clothes after you've tried them on, not before getting in line. Because I didn't realize their process was different, an employee called me over and then asked if I spoke and understood English while pointing at the sign. That was unnecessary, disrespectful, and completely inappropriate. That kind of behavior comes across completely unprofessional. Customers shouldn't be treated this way. read more

Bad experience. Came here to purchase and do a return and nothing went successful. The purchase didn't have a sticker so it took forever for the cashiers to create one. The worst part was the return. The Hispanic cashier didn't know what she was doing. She checked a machine and had to input a number to verify the item, and she typed in the wrong number blaming me the item I'm returning was different and I have to go back to the original store to return it. Nonsense! I bought the item in Texas and she's telling me to go return there while I live here ?! That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. The coordinator Isabella also wasn't helpful. She agreed with the cashier and just brushed me off. So unprofessional and made customers who shop there very inconvenient! I do not recommend this place ! Go somewhere else. I been here a few times yet this never happened to me before. My friends and i were buying things. We had this cashier. For once, you need to make sure everything has your store bar codes. Not everything is labeled. I had to buy lunch boxes that I didn't check if it had a bar code. We told this lady at the cashier how much was it $9.99. She gave us an attitude sparky remark of I need to get the ones with bar codes. She got it and showed it to us. We were right. No apologies nothing. My friend who bought the same lamp I did. She wanted to inflate the price. It was on clearance. She wanted to be snarky with my friend. I had the same lamp and she didn't questioned me at all. I looked at it. The price tag said $4 clearance yet she wanted to change it to $19.99. We spoke to the manager. That lady yesterday needs to learn costumer service. I felt like she was sizing us up and we would accept that inflated price. My other friend is like nope. Not buying anything here. This will be the last time I will be here. read more

Worst customer service. Store has severe theft issues. I had bought items which were obviously stolen out of the box and was left with an empty box after purchasing. I don't have a Marshalls in my new town but shop at TJ Maxx every couple months or so. I was pretty excited to see this store close to my hotel because I have always equated Marshalls with slightly better brands. I've bought Donald Pliner, Coach and other mid range luxury brands at other locations in the past. Well, sad to say, this was not the Marshalls I remember. Brands seemed fairly cheap, there was not a ton of selection (especially in bags and shoes) and the racks were kind of bare. I did find a pair of flip flops for my husband, some makeup remover that I wanted to try out and a bottle of Burt's Bees dog shampoo for a decent price. The line was long and took a while. The cashier was nice but all I could hear while I was paying were all the cashiers pushing the store credit card. I'd pass on this location. read more

Marshalls can be hit or miss, but today I ended up buying a bunch of random household items to my surprise. Location wise is not bad. It is right off El Camino in some small strip mall. There is plenty of parking from what I can tell. I was able to park quickly. The store is quite large and you could easily spend an hour here if you wanted to. I bought some bin organizers for the house, nose strips, and house slippers. The stuff here is generally affordable. House slipper sizing here is weird (based on the brands they carry) - one pair I tried a size 7 womens and it was way too small for my feet. The pair I bought (Laura Ashley) were actually labeled XL (9.5-10) but it fit my size 7 feet perfectly. I would definitely not get house slippers here for someone as a gift based on the size alone. The kitchens area was nice but lacking in some things that I thought they would stock, like measuring cups! read more

I feel like these types of stores are more like thrift stores. Sometimes you come in and sometimes you can find some good things, sometimes you can't. The service here is usually good, they have a good selection of things and they always have a deal here and there. I feel they had a good selection of candles when I came in earlier today. Mens Restrooms require a code which they will not give you. You have to push a button and no one comes. Women's was wide open. I suggest using the woman's . Ridiculous . Almost peed my pants waiting. I am so upset the cashiers tried to accuse me of removing a tag on some bottoms kids pj leggings! This lady told me she couldn't sell it when the price was on the clearance section for $4 and the lady that was on hangers accidentally removed it and I didn't notice until it was time to pay! They didn't want to sell me the legging because they thought I swapped them to match a grinch sweater so frustrating I'm a regular Marshall's shopper here and the way I felt treated especially with the young adult they need better customer service! read more

Huge assortment of stuff, usual very affordable prices. As mentioned in previous reviews, cranky staff but I get it, it's retail, nobody's thrilled to work in it (been there done that in the past). Pros: This is one of the better stocked Marshalls I've seen. Huge pet section, a LOT of clothes. Line wasn't horrible as with some discount stores on the Peninsula. Huge parking lot, you'll definitely get a spot. Cons: Cranky people working here. My toddler was throwing a tantrum running around with a shirt for her father. Woman working there added oil to the fire by lecturing me for getting the shirt dirty. Child's still tantrumming and fought me for the shirt as I tried to comply. Let's see, how did this help an obviously tired mother on Mother's Day trying to control a riled up child? (Yes, those of you who have never dealt with a spirited toddler would probably argue I should control my child or keep her away from stores until she's 4. The staff her is rude. my daughter and her cousin went to Marshall's today and this old woman was being very rude to them. My daughter and her cousin were filming their shopping day and when she was paying she put her phone in her pocket as she was still recording. My daughter gave the woman $4 and she rudely said "this isn't enough". My daughter goes to pay the rest with card but there still isn't enough money. the woman then claims that she "can't cancel the transaction or take anything off". This whole issue came up because the woman started saying stuff like "Jesus Christ" and bad words and rude comments in Spanish. she was looking at the kids in a rude manner. 3 stars because of this woman read more

I am convinced that they higher robots to work here. Seriously, I came here today to this particular location because I happen to be in the area. I scoped out the place to see what items they had in stock. Apparently short sleeve collared shirts are no longer in stock in any retail stores, that just suck for me I guess! As I continued looking around I heard an announce on the intercom requesting that another register be opened. A few minutes later I heard the same lady make the same announcement. After 10 minutes she made the same announcement. SERIOUSLY, can someone help her. It is CLEAR that she NEEDS another employee to come and RING. I felt bad for her because I know she was not going to be get aggressive in tone but I wanted to yell on her behalf. The concept of TEAM is clearly misunderstood among the employees here. I did not find anything that really stood out. I did see a few college hoodies but they were only for Stanford and Cal, GO FIGURE!! The clearance section is pretty good but I think Ross has Marhsalls beat in that area. The clearance prices were good but the selection was so small. That strategy never works too well. Absolutely amazing customer service even during the holiday rush! I came here a couple of times, and there's always parking. The store is pretty big and easy to find what you are looking for. They have a holiday section set up, spa sets are in a reasonable location, and they definitely put out all the gifting in the aisles. I absolutely adore this store as the associates are super friendly. The cashier on a weekday last week had a great conversation with me, and yesterday when I stopped by a lady tried to help me find what I was looking for and was so excited that I found it. All in all, great service. It is a little messy, but which place isn't the last 10 days before Christmas? Absolutely love the selection they have on hand as well! I'm a fan! read more

I enjoy coming to this Marshall's in San Bruno because of their affordable selection of items. I prefer going to the Colma location, but if I'm in the area I don't mind coming here! I never know what I'll find here so I always like to look around to see what new things they have. The only problem with this location is that the line is way too long and doesn't move that fast because they only have a few cashiers. I actually love the selection at this location. But the customer service from Marta was pretty bad. My 2 year old girl saw grandma try on shoes, so she naturally wanted to as well like a big girl. Marta rudely asked my mom "are you going to buy those?" The answer was obviously no, since my daughter was trying on shoes for boys that were too big for her. Marta then replied that "she needs to take them off or they'll get dirty." I was surprised and replied "would you like to try to take them off her? Because she'll throw a fit." She was silent after that. I don't see what we did wrong for her to attack us like that, especially when we had a cart of other items we were going to buy. There was no reason for her to behave like that towards us to make us feel like unwelcome patrons. read more

Cannot believe I've never given a shout out to this place, especially given I'm such a sucker for stores of this ilk. I adore it--loads of everything you'd want to browse through: not just women's and men's clothing, and I do mean racks and racks of the stuff, but also accessories and shoes, plus home goods. I especially love their bathroom toiletries, makeup, soaps. Their kitchen section is surprisingly varied, everything from glassware to decorative items and functional things, e.g. tea kettles and cookware. Their Moroccan themed things are gorgeous, which they always seem to have in stock. The service is always fast and efficient, the return policy fair. Went to this Marshall's today and they sold me a broken mirror, noticed once I got out of the place that it had a huge crack, went back in not even 5 mins after paying for the mirror, which they never took out of the cart to examine btw, and the manager called me a liar and that I was making it all up for a mirror, like WHAT? Why would I make something like that up and in less than 5 mins. Needless to say the manager Mona was calling me names and told me to call corporate if I wanted to, she was also being rude to her staff like I'm sorry if you have to work with someone like that. Like the boldness... anyway I took my broken mirror home which I paid 60$ for please know better and check if your stuff are broken cause they will call you liar and other million names if you even try to return it, even if it has been less than 5 mins after you bought it. I am sorry to the Marshall's staff with good customer service. One of your staffs just spoiled all of your efforts today! I visited San Bruno Marshalls store #100492 on 7/16/2023 around 1:30pm. I am returning 2 items and help by cashier #1077. I hand her my phone for e-receipt showing the return barcode and the items. She starts to complain that she can't see my phone because it was upside down. I have my phone laid on the table so she can see. Then, she took a long time to examine the receipt and items like a detective going over the evidences in a crime scene, she told me that you cannot return one of the items because you have modified the pant. I told her that I just bought the pants on Friday and they were in the same condition when I purchased them. My son tried on both of them and not fit him so I am returning them. She continues to accuse me of modifying the pant multiple times in a rude way. I don't think I should take anymore of her nonsense as a customer and asked to speak with the manager in store. She told me that she is the manager for this location. She also states that this is how she handles the case with customer which is ignoring the customer and calls customer names. When I start voice recording what she accuses and calls me then she just keeps her mouth shut and not say anything. This is very hard to believe as I have been shopping with Marshalls for many years. My shopping experiences have been pleasant until today. Cashier #1077 with name Cecelia in Coordinate was very rude to customer with negative customer service. She didn't greet customer, called customer names, accused customer of doing things and ignored customer complaints. Marshall's, if you don't want to lose your customers, please take this complaint seriously and review your staffs customer service level. read more

So, before I begin my real rant, I want to say that the prices here are AWESOME. No joke. I filled a whole basket full of stuff for the boyfriend for Christmas, birthday and even things for the mom and the in-laws. For like not even $200. WOW. I always go here to bring little things for my mom and brother back in Escondido (southern California), because apparently the Marshalls near them, sucks pretty bad. I actually have come to this location many times and have been pleased. I've bough towels, clothing, socks, under-wear, shampoo, coffee and basically life here and have no complaints. It's not Nordstrom so I don't expect them to wipe my ass for me or follow me around trying to help. I'm perfectly capable of finding the pots on my own thank you very much. So why the one star? Easy I used to work retail and I hated it. Corporate doesn't appreciate it's employees and nor do the store managers. Period. I had to witness today, what I am willing to call the most horrible example of how NOT to be a manager. The cashier I was with was a really sweet Indian girl who clearly was nervous because it was her first time either in retail or at Marshalls. Either way she was shaking and dropping everything and I really felt bad for her. Trying to learn all that stuff during holiday season is hard. Been there, done that. After she scanned a few items, some woman who looked like Suzy Orman (with the title COORDINATOR on her name tag) came over and began literally harassing the girl asking if she asked me if I wanted to save 10% off my purchase today. When the cashier admitted she didn't the following was said IN FRONT OF ME. "If you don't start asking customers if they want 10% off their purchase, you see that man over there? He is the store manager and he will FIRE you if you don't start." WTF. She then sweetly started talking to me about my purchases and I stood there a little shell shocked. Within a few minutes, she turned her attention back to the cashier and thrashed her to bits about packing the bags correctly, and not dropping things. I mean for effs sake it's Marshalls. Not Burberry. Or Nordstrom. Or Chanel. At this point, Im trying to help the poor cashier out by handing her things and telling 'Suzy Orman' it's ok, things don't need to be packed perfectly because I used to work retail and know how hard it is to learn. After leaving the store, I met the boyfriend and told him what I just experienced, he almost went back IN the store to tell the STORE manager (apparently the one who is going to fire to cashier for not asking me if I want to 10% off my purchase) how shitty of a manger his "COORDINATOR" is. He told me if that ever happens again, we put the stuff back and leave. I really hope someone higher up reads this reviews and does something about how to better train it's employees. Having a dragon breathe down your back does nothing to better your abilities to be a better employee. If anything. it tarnishes your ability to showcase anything worth while. read more
