After clearing out a garage it was late at night and the only place around I could think of to order a take away from was Marrakech. I had never eaten there before but knew they were open late. So I took a brilliant chance & ordered the Moroccan lamb. The best food I have ever tasted in my life! My Mother has a swallowing disorder which makes it hard for us to go out especially in the summer when restaurants don't serve soup. Mohamed cooked my mum a wonderful smooth spinach and vegetable soup, she really enjoyed it. So now I am taking 8 of my friends there tomorrow night. Another year goes by, and I get another 12 months older, and thus my family feel the need to take me to dinner... Let it be clear I'm not complaining! "Where do you wanna go?" Says my girlfriend, "I don't know, somewhere different, Asian or something." I replied. "Right we're going to a Moroccan place in North Adelaide"... "Beauty"... Marrakech sits on one of the most hotly contested restaurant strips in Adelaide - O'Connell St in North Adelaide, with a small shop front and dimmed lighting it doesn't look the grand spectacle from the outside - however this place really is the bees knees of "I dunno, something different" of restaurants. Its wonderfully vibrant blue wallpaper is broken up nicely with tributes to Morrocan culture: large rugs and mirrors line the walls with a beautiful ceiling of star shaped lanterns. Our merry group of 7 were spread across a large table with half our seating taken up by a beautiful bay window couch covered in brightly covered cushions and throws (nothing in this place is done by half measures. The staff at Marrakech maintain a certain level of professionalism whilst keeping a lovely air of joviality and friendliness. We chose to order 5 dishes as well as sides and share them banquet style. An eclectic mix of lamb, chicken, beef and Vegetable dishes were brought out promptly in traditional clay hot pots. All the dishes were incredibly moorish - with rich flavours and tender meat or vegetables, lots of sauce with large chunks of meat. After dinner we were offered traditional mint tea brewed specially on request. Our waiter was taking a conspicuously long time and we were wondering what was happening to our tea? After an age the tea finally came out as did COMPLIMENTARY BIRTHDAY PANCAKES! With the lights turned off and a sparkler poked into the top of the pancakes, I was sung a rousing rendition of "happy birthday to you" by the entire restaurant! It's the little things usually that make a 5 star review - Marrakech turn the little things into big things, their generosity and attention to detail is impossible to ignore BRAVO! read more

Food was great however had to order extra couscous multiple times and finally arrived over half an hour later. Ordered a cup of tea multiple times . It didn't turn up. Waited a very long time for the bill .....still waiting while I write this review. Lovely food and excellent service. This is definitely a return venue for me. Our party of six started with the dips and Melwi. Good start. It only got better with the mains. The beef tag one being a particular standout. The Turkish coffee is some of the best I have ever had. Strong but never bitter, lightly spiced without bing overpowering. Yum. read more

Great food and a welcoming polite host. Plenty of food with large portion size. Limited choice but great dishes. Thoroughly enjoyed a busy evening with a steady turnover of diners. Owner in national dress is a nice touch. Complementary ice cream with the funny dog hair fairy floss type topping (Pariya Pashmak) which is lovely. This restaurant was a real treat! Amazingly good food, beautifully presented, and in a beautifully decorated restaurant that took you to Marrakech. The host ws very welcoming, too. It was very popular this Friday night, and as we needed to eat late, we followed the restaurant's recommendation of an 8pm table. We were 5 in number, and greatly enjoyed the banquet menu that presented excellent value. Thre were lovely flourishes in all courses, also afterwards in the form of the mint tea and rose water hand sprinkle. Thoroughly recommended for a different and very special night out. read more

Truly sensational food, so much to choose from and so plentiful. the taste sensations were broad and deep and the two tajines we had could have easily served four. Tasty, like an orchestra on the tongue that played solos and arias all at once. The owner Mohammed was wonderfully welcoming and also helpful. Terrific food and a great time. Ambience: A small space that is regularly packed. Well appointed and a good place for a date night having a somewhat up-scale feel to it. Good for a special night out. Service: Very attentive staff. Features BYO option which is good. The owners and chef can also often be found mingling with the customers to make sure they feel welcome. Nice touches such as hand washing at the end of the meal. Food: Wonderful. Dishes of powerful flavor combined with others of delicate and subtle intricacy. We tried a whole range that were on-point. A combination dip plate featured 4 tasting that were all delicious (carrot, beets, babaganoush and spinach). The accompanying bread was also freshly made and could have served as a meal on its own. Next was a chicken estella (ground chicken + spices fried in a film dough and dusted with icing sugar) which sounds odd but although it wasn't to my taste got raves from everyone else at my table. For mains we tried three dishes of lamb, saffron chicken and beef which were all memorable. The meslala dessert was probably the only miss but again, that might just have been me as the others liked it. Price: Worth the price for a special night out. Worth saving up for, that is for sure. In short, I'll be sure to make this a regular stop every time I'm in Adelaide. read more

I was impressed by Marrakech. The food is fragrant, tasty, and there is lots of it. There is good ambience, great service and it is a lovely change of pace from all the American diner food that is around. The menu isn't huge but has a good range including three vegetarian options and two fish. The serves are large so I'd either share two mains between three or skip entrees. We had the dips and bread which were nice but not nearly as exciting as the mains so in hindsight I wish I had not had them so I could have eaten more of the really great stuff. We had a pea and artichoke, baramundi fish, and lamb and prune tajines. They were all stunning and came to the table bubbling hot. The food is not spicy - great if it doesn't agree with you. But I love spice so was glad I ordered a side of harissa. It added a lot to the meals. The bread is warm, thick and salty and good for mopping up juices. We had a serve of bread and one of couscous for four of us and that was plenty. The waitress advised us not to get more and she was right. The service was unobtrusive, friendly, very helpful. I loved that we didn't get rushed off after we had finished our mains. And that we were given advice that avoided lots of food waste and unnecessary expense. Sadly, I was to stuffed to eat anything else after the main, but the sweet mint tea is a good palate cleanser and is served in a very theatrical way. We also were sprayed with rose water upon leaving which had the memories of a great dinner wafting home with us. See if you can get the table in the window - the soft cushions on the couch so nice to melt into with post dinner bloat! read more

My son asked for something different to celebrate his last high school exam. We searched Yelp and found Marrakech as he liked the idea of Moroccan food. Off we trudged with my 4 kids ranging from 17 to 11 with the 11 year the least adventurous. For most of us the food was exciting and amazing with us all sharing from each others selections - the 11 year old is always a challenge especially with strong flavours. The service was excellent with the waitress a star giving great service and advice. Go the Mezze plate to start if you are a large group and then order your mains to share and 1 less than the number of adults as it leaves room for desert. The highlight for us was the 17yo taking the kids home for icecreams and my wife and I staying back for adult deserts, coffee and peppermint tea lounging on the front sofa area/table feeling like we were 25 again with no kids and no cares in the world - it even felt kind of romantic!
