La'Fig Cucina - Freshly cooked Nutella donuts!! Can't say no to that !!

A few friends and I were looking for a place to catch up over lunch, and La'Fig Cucina was…read moresuggested. I didn't mind where we went so we all agreed to give La'Fig a try. It's supposedly a fusion of Italian, Bosnian and Middle Eastern cuisines which piqued my interest. The interior is interesting there's a section with floor seating (where you remove your shoes) as well as the usual table and booth seating. I ordered the Angus Beef Burger with smoked mozarella, gherkins, beetroot & aioli. What really set this burger apart is the smoked mozarella... oh my lord it's AMAZING. I need to find out if there's any places that sell smoked cheeses, I feel like it's something I now need in my life! The beef was quite juicy and along with the pickles and the beetroot and sauce, it ended up quite messy as many burgers do. I'm assuming La'Fig ran out of brioche because there was a foccacia type bread in its place which was not bad, but a little dry. The burger came with a pretty generous side of sweet potato fries (ran out of regular fries) which were cooked pretty well, crispy exterior with a soft and fluffy sweet potato inside and most importantly, it wasn't soggy! It just needed some salt which was on the table, so no troubles there. I also had a slice of my friend's La'Fig Pizza with bresaola (a cured Italian beef), feta, rocket and fig. It was alright, The fig works with the cured meat and cheese and while the base wasn't particularly soggy, I found it somewhat greasy. I definitely preferred the burger. Everyone there seemed to enjoy the food which is a good sign. Last but not least I bought a couple of nutella filled donuts to takeaway since the staff said they were freshly made. They were tasty because how can anything go wrong with nutella right? That being said I ended up eating them a few hours later but they were still good. The staff are warm, friendly and happy to run through the menu and answer any questions. I was pretty happy paying $17.50 for the burger as the portion was generous and there was that smoked mozzarella, not to mention the sweet potato fries. The donuts were around $3.50 which is alright. It's interesting that they use camel in some of the dishes and it's something I may come back to try.

The menu is based mainly on Malaysian street food styles... Delicious Roti with your choices of curries, many styles of Nasi Lemak, Rendang, plus Noodle and Rice dishes galore. Their drink selection is very Malay.. Coffee and Tea (either separate or together). The Staff were very pleasant and the décor, nothing special but certainly comfortable and appropriate.

A saving grace for Malaysians and Singaporeans away from home!…read more In the 17 years I've lived in Adelaide, the only way I could have REAL satay was to make it myself. Thankfully, there is now Papparich. Whilst many Malaysians and Singaporeans from states like NSW and Vic say that it's "not the best", I say, beggars can't be choosers and when you really have a hankering for proper roti and satay, this is it. 1) The menu is all authentic. It's not been diluted or modified to cater to the western palate like many Asian restaurants. 2) I can sit in there, close my eyes and the accents I hear, I am brought back to any eatery in Malaysia or Singapore, except that it's not hot and humid. 3) I haven't given it 5-stars because ... I wish there was the Nonya style of laksa and the Singapore-style of Char Kuay Teow. Every other dish, Singapore has a version of, and I'm quite happy with what is there. 4) The prices whilst not the prices one would get in Malaysia and Singapore, won't break your pocket either. For me, the must-try is the Satay. If you've never had Satay in Malaysia and Singapore, you have to try it here. You will never order "chicken satay" as an entree elsewhere again. So far, I have tried the Nasi Lemak. Though I would like for the rice to be more lemak, it's probably better for the waistline that it's not as fragrant with coconut as it should be. The Nasi Lemak comes with different types of meat but the condiments are all the same. I wish there was one with fried fish ... perhaps like a Tommy Ruff which is closest to the herring or mackerel that is included in most packed Nasi Lemaks you'd find on the street or in hawker centres. I usually order the Nasi Lemak with an extra serve of the Sambal Ikan Bilis as I prefer that. The steamed chicken with various styles of noodles is a great meal. I had the Dry Hor Fun (flat rice noodles served with a gravy and not in a soup). It comes with a good serve of blanched bean sprouts and the steamed Hainanese-style Chicken is clean and tender. Really, I think the chicken is poached. There is a dish on the menu that is Deep Fried Chicken Skin ... I want to try it ... but I'm thinking I might go into cholesterol-arrest! They do not take reservations and the minimum for EFTPOS is $20.

Do you have the tendency to face Mecca five times a day?…read moreThen you would appreciate Roshan's. It is one of the only Halal friendly food outlets in the Mall. I like a good curry, in turn I like Roshan's. Which if you didn't gather, makes a good curry. I don't remember the names of what I have tried, it is not because of lack of sensitivity, but more so because I sadly have not eaten there for some time. It makes me sad and I shall now endeavour to eat there again. It's the first to your left when entering the food court from the mall entrance.

So of course, I headed straight to the David Jones Food Court! While this initially sounds exciting, you have to lower all high expectations...because this place ain't all that great. At least Roshans cut the time of my hunt for Indian food. I have been here so many times, going all the way back to senior high school when I was just 17, so I can definitely say that my taste has significantly changed since then. I must say - today I wasn't very impressed. Roshans does serve other Asian food, as well as traditional Indian food, but something has definitely changed about their 'Butter Chicken', which used to be my lunchtime favourite. Today, it tasted more like a really badly done Satay chicken, rather than that buttery taste I used to love. I was literally spitting out parts back onto my plate, it was that bad. What's happened here? Did they change their chef or ingredients for the worse? Did some customers complain about the awesome taste, that they had to water it down? I dunno, but I was so disappointed today. Luckily i had their teriyaki chicken as a second choice, to rescue me from my hunger pangs. Maybe next time it's actually half decent. For now, I am not content after this bad Indian food experience and now I have to find another place I can go to enjoy better Indian food that my stomach craves for! Overall: If you got nowhere else to go for lunch - this is rock bottom of my list of lunch spots! Why oh why, you used to be so good. I would like an explanation and hope for future improvement.

But, I guess the outside of the store never really tickled my fancy. It is definitely not flash looking inside or out. There are no fancy tables, crockery or cultery. This is just good food served straight up! Lawash Bakery is serving up some really decent Lebanese food. If you love grilled meats, bread and flavour, well you have come to the right place. There are a few vego items to choose from, but I think this is more of a meat eating destination. There are a lot of options for you to choose from. Many different styles of grill, bread and accompaniments. You can order large platters for the table to share as well. I went for the mixed grill, that way I get to try a couple of different styles. It was great! Full of flavour, spices, slightly salty and smoky. Everything you want in a kebab. It was served on some really fresh pita and a side of lettuce, tomato and onion. That way you can wrap it up if you like. There was a whole lot of garlic in that meat and sauce too. So, maybe bring some mints to freshen up afterwards. I really liked the service and value here. I might have liked a few choices of sauces to go with my meat. But, it was cooked well and tasted brilliant. This is the type of place you want to go to fill up before a night on the town. Note, if you need to go to the loo, the bathroom around the back of the shop. But, be warned, it is really ewwww...
