I visited the Marq-E recently to attend an IMAX screening of director Ryan Coogler's movie "Sinners," which was shot primarily for presentation on IMAX 70mm screens. Initially, only 8 U.S. theaters were showing it in 70mm format. And the only such IMAX screen available in Texas is located in Dallas, Texas - at the Webb Chapel theater. To make the film, Coogler utilized two different aspect ratios - the ultra wide 2.76: 1 (Ultra Panavision) and 1:43:1 (IMAX). I think the former is the more rare of the two, and the latter is more standard. Marq-E just has basic IMAX, and I think it is kind of perplexing as to why there are no 70mm screens in Houston or Austin. Even so, I really enjoyed watching the film at Marq-E. The acoustics, seating, atmosphere, vibes and visual presentation were all top notch. I also thought the theater was really clean. The only down side, for me, is I wanted a hot pretzel and none were available. (Haha!) Overall, though, this is a theater I would definitely recommend. read more

Screen x is not worth the money. The screen x viewing is supposed to be a 180 picture but it's only during certain parts of the movie. The 180 degree screen is nice but because it doesn't show throughout the entirety of the movie. It's not worth it 4dx would be better read more

Very well maintained, with ample parking space, its a great way to spend an unplanned day. The Van Gogh Experience was really good! I learned allot & you felt like you were literally walking through his works. The VR part in the end was really cool & immersive also- it's a must for add ons. I always have a good time at the MQ- I really like the imax theater there and there's several eateries. There's also a cool candy shop - I think it's called Rocket Candy (maybe ‍) The only reason I gave 4 stars is bc maybe there could be more things to do. read more

Wake up in the morning, can't find your CAR KEY What to wear today? Anything but KHAKI Gonna go and enjoy the Liverpool MALARKEY At Hugh O Connors that's located at MARQ-E! WHAT This could be a Marq-E moment in my reviews. In that I'm reviewing the Marq-E. A large, modern, shiny shopping centre which has a bit of everything, and most importantly for us, it has a lot of the Liverpool fans of Houston, who congregate here on match days at the raucous and awesome Hugh O Connors LFC Pub. This is the massive entertainment palace that has all kinds of shops and bars restaurants and fun stuff for kids, including a massive movie theatre too. As I said, the reason we come here is because the Liverpool Pub for all of the Houston area is here, although there's the odd rival one here or there, but this is the one, as far as we're concerned, and it's where we saw Liverpool beat Barca 4-0 to make it to the final, and beat Spurs 2-0 in the final as well. So that makes it a real destination for us, but I think it would be a destination for anybody really, for one reason or another. It's just a great place and they do a great job of it on all levels. Except it's a little hot in this treeless asphalt parking lot for most of the year. Definitely they could use some shade in the parking lot but then there's plenty of shade on the internet to go round. read more

I came to the Van Gogh Immersive Experience a few weeks ago and I thought it was pretty cool! There were a lot of things to see and all of the work that Van Gogh has done with descriptions of his paintings as well. One of the last things to see is this huge room with rugs, pillows, and chairs spread out and a projector on the walls and floor with music and a narrator telling a story. It was really relaxing and peaceful. The show lasts for 30 minutes (until you get to the scene you saw first) but you are welcome to stay longer if you would like! After this part of the experience, there was a coloring station with pages you can color and scan to be projected onto the wall! This would be really fun for kids (: There is also a VR experience you can pay for that allows you to walk around in a forest I think. There was also a gift shop at the very end that sold all kinds of things! From posters of famous paintings, mugs, even flip flops lol Definitely visit while you can! read more

Since the last two times, I went to the movies here, I had not been in this area, since a place called drink Houston was there. I believe that was even before the pandemic, so it had been some years that I had been in this area. It's very quiet and low-key. I don't think there's anything really bad to say about it. But you have everything you need, food, entertainment, and lifestyle; i.e. LA fitness. read more

This place has a ton of potential, and I think it's going through a little bit of a revamp so I am excited to see what comes next. Having the movie theater around many restaurants is very convenient, they just need to be better restaurant offerings. There is also a Dave & Busters and Improv Comedy here if that's your sort of thing. I think the MarqE has the ability to be a place where you come spend the day, but for me in its current state, it's just good for a convenient movie theater. Here's hoping the impending facelift and influx of new eateries will kick it up a notch! read more

The 4DX experience is awesome. The place is cleaner than it used to be, but the popcorn was stale.

Ok, this is what you need to know: 1. It is a movie theatre 2. It looks like a movie Theatre 3. They sell "theatre" food (e.g popcorn etc) 4. It costs $9.75 on weeknights 5. They have Matinee (I think it's $5.75?) 6. Service was good. 7. Parking was horrible (even on a Wednesday night!) 8. The projector must have been old ( it was loud) 9. The movie sucked (but that's not their fault) 10. Seats are comfortable and leg room was A-OK. 11. It was very clean. Now that you have this information... use it wisely. Once again I find myself reviewing a collaboration location. However unlike bayou place, this "entertainment center" has basically a lot of junk. The theater is OK, but they lost Jillian's and now it has turned into a Dave & Buster's. Not much has changed inside but ever since it has switched name it just isn't the same. They have a comedy club and a gym? Yes! La Fitness is part of this center. As far as restaurants they have Todai and Cafe Adobe. There is also a dance club here: Drink Houston. Overall lots of boring and lame stuff to do, so in reality not much to do and might as well skip this unless you are just coming for a movie. read more

This Regal theatre has IMAX screens in addition to showing the latest release films in stadium seating. Usually screenings get packed here so I would suggest showing up early. There is a fun water feature in the plaza and a small sampling of restaurants. There are also some stores a workout facility and the Jillian's Entertainment Center. It is a pretty good way to spend the day in one place if you're looking to stay out of the heat and love neon and flashy lights. I would suggest it for a good meet up for groups of all ages. read more

I always have fun when coming here. Although I came here on a thursday night to bowl and there are surprisingly a lot of ppl who came here at all times of the week. We went upstairs to the bowling alley and we were waiting to be helped at the desk. A young lady at the desk saw us and did not let us know that we needed to go onto another line to be helped BY HER. So we ended up going to the other line and we waited about 15 minutes behind a small group before we decided to just leave. There needs to either be more help or faster service. read more

CAREFUL WHERE YOU PARK! This place is not safe. Be careful where you park because apparently the rate of break-ins are extremely high. The security guards who patrol do not seem to care very much and tried to make light of their inability to patrol effectively. I don't find it very humors to have my brand new car broken into and having to pay 500 dollars in repairs. Security knows they have blind spots in their cameras.. I don't understand why they don't take extra precautions in those blind spots. I recommend only parking in lines sight of a security camera if you ever go here. read more

Pretty cool little "Entertainment" center. I started to say shopping center but it really is an entertainment center. Everything from an Imax movie theater, Dave and Busters, an Improve comedy clue and a night club. Theres for sure something here for everyone. Tonight was "Meet Your Blind Date at the Movies". You want the dirt on the theater, movie, or the date? Ah, I see - your "Gossip Girl" self makes you pull up your chair. You'll have to wait on the date "review" until the end - no skipping to the end! The theater is the usual staid suburban color kitsch you'll see everywhere. But, it does have comfy, clean seating and great sound. Bathrooms were clean though some of the urinals were out of service. I was okay since I only needed 1 of them. The staff were polite and doing their assigned jobs. The movie was "Yes Man" with Jim Carrey. See? You get a review-within-a-review here. Don't say I don't treat you right. Movie was pretty funny in lots of spots and had a feel good message about positive thinking but not worth $9.50 on a Sunday night. Save it for Netflix or cable. Okay, you get what you really wanted: the date was awkward at the beginning, movie helped us bond, and we were kidding and elbowing each other as the credits rolled. In a perverse sort of way, I've been looking forward to reviewing Marq-E because it is my first honest-to-goodness one-star review. I did consult the opinion of the experts, however, before rendering my verdict. Both my teenage daughters concur: "It's SOOO 8th grade, Dad!" This place has been in a continuous downward death spiral for the past five years. The parent contingent in this neck of the woods is grateful that the kids think it's a dump because we've watched the crowds of the "undesirable element" grow. At this point in time, there is little to get into at Marq-E except trouble. There is no incentive to go to the movies here anymore either. With the newer theaters at Katy Cinemark and Memorial City both offering a better environment, the death spiral should continue. Then there is the traffic congestion. The mess that the Katy Freeway construction brings might make the Marq-E the biggest casualty on the West Side since the Town and Country Shopping Center went under. I won't be shedding a tear if this happens... When it comes to the Marq-E, just say no! read more

My husband, daughter and I went to the Dino Alive event tonight and it was an amazing experience. My daughter is 2 years old and loves dinosaurs so I knew it would be a hit. Upon arriving, there was an amazing dinosaur graphic that covered the wall to the building. Our only complaint would be, as soon as we walked in, the climate was very hot and humid. i immediately worried about my daughter because she had a thick dinosaur costume on. There is about 6 or 7 different rooms to interact with and they all were different temperatures. The animatronic dinosaurs were great quality and were so huge they almost looked real. There was a room full of projectors that projected different underwater dinosaurs. The room had inflated balls you could throw at the wall that would make the dinosaurs disburse. The last interactive area had a sand box where you could excavate for fossils, color a coloring page, animatronic dinosaur rides, a video game, and VR headsets that gave you the POV of riding a dinosaur. There was also a scanner where you could scan your dinosaur coloring page and it would come alive. Lastly, there was a projector where you could race a T-Rex. I guess to simulate if you would survive or not if you had ever been chased by one. The bathrooms were very clean even though I could not find a changing table to change my daughters diaper. There was a ledge that had a mirror however where I was able to change my daughter out of her dinosaur costume because she had gotten so hot from running around. There is a gift shop that is a little overpriced, but sells cute stuff like plush dinosaurs, magnets, posters, and even phone charging banks. We bought my daughter a plush dinosaur for twenty five dollars, three enamel pins for seven dollars each, and a refrigerator magnet. When you purchase your ticket, you get a two hour window to explore front to back, and even back to front again if you'd like. We played in the sand box for a long time and then went back to the projector room a few times. We are glad that we went back to the front though because there was a baby triceratops that was a hand puppet, and if we had not went back my daughter would have missed it. The baby was moving and looked so real, her name was Sarah after "The Land Before Time". My daughter got to pet it and I'm positive she had no idea that it was a hand puppet. The two hour time frame is not strictly enforced. We arrived around 5:30pm and left around 7:30pm, even though our tickets said 5pm to 7pm. The facility closed at 8pm. This is the second time for my family visiting. Previously, we attended the Van Gogh Immersive Experience. The Van Gogh was more of an art exhibit but had a projector room similar to the dinosaur one. I do not know if the Van Gogh projectors were interactive though. read more

The website for this place says, "The Marq*E Entertainment Center is Houston's premier dining and entertainment venue." No, it is not. The games center is just a Dave and Buster's with a different name. Going bowling there is the worst experience ever. The few times I've tried to bowl there, the staff is rude and inattentive, and it takes for-ev-er to get a lane. There's also shuffleboard and billiards, which are a lot less long of a wait. Just like D&B, drinks and food are sugary, bland, and overpriced. The movie theater is fine. Just what you'd expect out of a movie theater. The dance club is skippable and certainly not worth a drive otuside the Loop. I haven't eaten at this location of Adobe, but Adobe's a good restaurant, so I'm sure this location has solid Mexican food. If you go any weekend night, it's going to be a mad house. the parking lot is vast, and there will be lots of 17 year olds on dates and junior high schoolers prowling in packs. I really want to give this place one star. But I'll throw on an additional star for the Hot Topic and other semi-cute women's clothes stores there. read more

This place is like a ghost town! We used to call it "Disneyland Lite" because of the all-encompassing entertainment vibe they tried to affect, but lately everything's been closing down and getting grungy. Everything that's left is overpriced and of variable (and slipping) quality. The last time I tried to go to the Putting Edge, it was closed and had a sign posted by the management about no entry due to late rent. Teenagers "loitering" is an understatement...huge, roaming groups with nothing to do populate the sidewalks until the old-enough-to-drink crowd shows up. I know that a popular radio station holds events at Drink Houston, but the only fun I've ever had there was checking out the atrocious karaoke. I think this place has become more of a must-miss than a must-see. Ikea's right down the road - try there first. read more

The pros to this place greatly outweigh the cons, so I settled on a four star review. Besides, I'm fully aware that my grumpiness is caused by my premature grumpiness towards "young-ins". If you want an easy place to bring kids and have something for everyone, this is actually a pretty great place. The only problem is that it is really large, so if you're a parent that worries, you may want to get one of those kiddie leashes (yes, especially for your teenagers). I'm not sure when Liz S. went, but each time I've gone it has been packed. Again, it tends to be full of teens with way too much make-up on, but that's life. The pros lie in the pizza and maybe solely the pizza. I haven't been to Star Pizza yet, but this has been the best pizza experience in Texas so far. Perfection on dough. Fast service. Clean building. Proper carbonation to syrup mixture for the sodas. Plus, it is so much more reasonably priced than the food at say, Jillian's. I haven't been to the Comedy Club, though I've heard it is great. Other cons include the awful parking (seriously, I got lost for about 45 minutes at 2 a.m. last time. . . .and I was (mostly) sober at the time!), putting up with the traffic to actually get there (I-10 is evil on a normal basis, but when you've got all that construction going on, you can miss the exit. . .everytime you try to get there. . .or maybe it is because I'm terrible with directions. . .), and finally with the overly hormoned teens running around (can you tell how much it annoys me?!). All in all, it'll be a better place to go once the construction is done and I suppose having 15 year old boys hit on me isn't the worst thing in the entire world (the last one being one my husband's students--awkward for the rest of the semester), but if you're on that side of town, it is an easy place to find something for everyone. read more

This place is rather convenient to where we live so we often come here. Usually Friday nights during the summer are movie nights. Location: this location has tons of potential but never seemed to really pull it off. Many places have been in here over the years but few seem to take hold. The movie theater and comedy clubs are the big draws here, along with Drink Houston, but there appears to be little reason to go during the day. Parking can be a disaster. If you go on a weekend night after 7:00 do not even try to park on the surface lots or in the first 2 floors of the garage. Just head straight for garage level 3 or 4 and get on with it. You will save time doing this. When you are heading home, getting out onto Silber can be a pain. It is 2 left turn lanes (heading to 10), but for some reason everyone crowds the left lane only. I pull up past dozens of cars on the right lane and make the light. Use caution in the parking lot, there are small kids and people everywhere. Prices at the theater are getting up there now. I think it is $11 for a non imax/ non 3-D movie. We have the points card which does help out every so often. Drink Houston is not really my scene so I have never been there so I cannot comment on it. read more

Came to the movie theater here to see an advanced screening of the movie The Intruder. It was very hard to find parking at 6:30 PM. The movie theater was clean. As were the restrooms in the theater. Reclining comfortable seats and enough space to shuffle around. I like this movie theater. However, the last time I was in Houston was ages ago. The staff seemed upbeat but we only had to talk to the guy taking tickets. When we walked into the theater, there must've been at least 20 people waiting in line. It took us less than 5 minutes to walk up to the kiosk, grab our tickets and go. Not only did we beat a bunch of people to the snack bar but also to our seats. This movie theater is located next to a sushi restaurant, Dave & Buster and a bunch of other restaurants, I can see why its a good place to go. read more

We watched a movie. The theater was clean and refreshment lines moved fast enough. They don't have the nice reclining seats. I thought they might since other theaters in the area do and this is a nicer one. I believe some of the candy to be stale. Otherwise, everything was fine and we enjoyed the movie. read more

I remember when they first opened the Marq-e, it was a popular place to hang out with tons of places to shop at. Now it seems as if the shops all have a curse. Not one shop stayed in business. I honestly didn't even know this place existed til last week. I usually go to the movie theater on weslayn but this one is closer to my house now. I liked that the parking in the garage was free as opposed to other theaters that charge. My date didn't like the parking cuz he felt it was too far from the movie theater (but then again he's paranoid about people messing with his car or truck so whatev) I also liked that there is a bunch of restaurants around so that makes it convenient for 'dinner and a movie' nights. It was my first time in this area and what started as a great night...ended horribly. I am not sure what kind of security company they've hired, but by the end of the night my car and three other vehicles in the same parking lot got broken into. It appears that this happen frequently as one of my close friends had gone through the same ordeal last year. This has never happened to me. I'm not one to leave things out in the open either.
