It ended up being one of my favorite stops in the city, and I really look forward to coming back soon. It's an easy one to get to on a walk in the area. It feels like a cafe or coffee roaster, so modern and clean, but with a clear love of everything chocolate. I'm told on the weekends it gets super busy thanks to their menu of chocolate infused everything including coffees and teas. On the left to the inside is their full range of bars, which includes a placard with the location of the cacao and tasting notes. There are also free samples of everything, and the servers can help you with questions. They even have little tasting sheets for notes if you want to get serious and remember for future visits. They have a few tables and bar seating at the front, with more bar seating along the back right leading to the clean restrooms. Here you'll also find educational displays about chocolate and viewing windows to the roasting and processing rooms. Even though it was afternoon, it was so much fun to order things with caffeine just for the sheer joy of it. We had the chocolate milk, I had a chocolate infused black tea, we shared a special new bar, and were given their signature tiny cookies. Prices are reasonable for the quality, both the drinks and the bar. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, they clearly love the place as much as we do.

Living in the South Bay, it's always a treat to make it up here. Love their pastries, but their sourdough and selection of breads are just as amazing. The hazelnut and chocolate fillings had a perfect, not-too-sweet flavor. The canele was also very tasty, with a pastry texture that was just right. They specialize of course in choux pastries, but they also make meringues and canelés which happen to be my favorite. This time I got two matcha canelés, two original and 4 choux: mango ginger (oh my god, what a wonderful pairing this is), pistachio, raspberry and lemon meringue. The choux is light and fluffy. Topped with crackling and beautifully decorated, these choux are filed to the top on the inside with delicious mouse/cream making the perfect bite. The canelés were also delicious. Caramelized (yet not burned) on the outside and fluffy and custardy in the inside. Highly recommend to anyone fan of good pastries. You can place your order online or pick up at their store front. Do not miss it if you are in the area! You will not regret it.

Service was kind. Don't Stay for Breakfast: Disappointed by this one, was 1-dimensional and no better than any run-of-the-mill ice cream bar. It lacked the maple flavor I was looking for. The only highlight was the crunch from the waffle flakes. Pavlova: A significant step-up from the other dessert. Visually, the pavlova wrapped around the presentation of fruit is quite beautiful. The pavlova was light, airy, and had a nice sweetness. The fruit filling was decadent, and added variety to each bite.

The cupcakes are decorated nicely. Their Italian Meringue Cupcake is a rich Double-Chocolate cake with a light and fluffy marshmallow-like texture makes me think of a hostess cupcake. But who makes the city's best croissants? The San Francisco Chronicle recently held a blind taste test to answer that serious question, and lo and behold ONE65's version ended up being the SECOND-BEST croissant in that competition. ONE65's building is quite the destination. Their croissants are found in the first floor patisserie, the second floor hosts a chocolate room where their in-house chocolatier crafts artisanal bonbons, on the third floor you'll find the ONE65 Bistro & Grill, the fourth floor is home of the Elements Lounge, and the 5th & 6th floors are where you'll find O' by Claude Le Tohic, a luxurious, fine-dining French culinary experience. Our breakfast at ONE 65 of course included croissants, one sweet and one savory. Yes, they were both amazing- soft and flaky and chock full of yummy fillings. Sometimes, being second best is a prestigious place to be.
