Selections, availability, normal people. Great for Russian speakers but also for those who don't. Smoked meats and fish, fresh breads, etc.

This was my recent dinner at Kalinka, where instead of my usual barbecue sauce I seasoned it with sour cream ("smetana")! It's always great to expand one's culinary horizons, isn't that what makes a foodie? As other reviewers mentioned, the majority of the space is a grocery store stocking traditional dishes from Russia and other Eastern European countries. There are a few tables inside the store as well as outside. You order at the counter, and your dish is brought out to your table if eating in. Besides my chicken dish, I also enjoyed a portion of kachapuri (stuffed cheese bread) as well as a warm and flaky cherry pie ("vishni"). One of my overseas friends recommended pomegranate juice as part of my wellness regimen. To my delight, I was able to purchase a large bottle of it (sok granat). The cashier / deli attendant helped me find it, and also gave me the opportunity to place my order in Russian as well. Thank you for that "above and beyond" level of service. Blagodario bas!

Others, like "Moscow on the Sea" are less explored, even by locals. The shady world of grey money emphasizing itself through extravagant condos that never have a resident, persistently present black G Wagons and a sense of stepping into a different world. Ararat, is exactly that. While the restaurant is Armenian, it appeals heavily to all Eastern Europeans in the area, more heavily Russians and Ukrainians. It's a place that shows that despite everything going on in the world, here, all are friends sharing a wonderfully cheesy khachapuri from the table. The live music is something else, with talented Armenian singers and melodies that are as soulful as life itself. Aside from the khachapuri cheese pies, the kharcho soup is phenomenal. There are Armenian and Georgian wines on the menu, which really cannot be missed. The vibe is truly transformative into a land far away from Miami and perhaps, even a different time. This is a place to enjoy life and think of little else.

For my most recent stop to grab dessert after dinner nearby, to other times when I have enjoyed savory dishes in their adjacent sit down restaurant, Matryoshka was one of Sunny Isles' first delis stocking a wide variety of authentic food from Russia, Belarus, and various other European countries. They also have Mediterranean dishes for sale. It is mostly a grocery store, along with a well stocked (and clearly labeled) buffet of entrees and desserts. Since it is in the corner of a shopping plaza, they have outside tables along both sides if you want to enjoy your bites with a view of the Sunny Isles skyline. The blini (pancakes) I enjoyed tonight were filled with cheese and a mixed berry compote, and went perfectly with my latte (kofe s molokom).

Everything on display looked fresh, appetizing, and delicious, so my friends and I decided to pick up several different items for dinner. Unfortunately, the good experience ended with the appearance of the food. Almost everything we bought turned out to be completely unfit to eat. Some of it tasted sour and was clearly spoiled, some had a disgusting rotten smell, and we even found mold on some of the food. It is honestly difficult to understand how this amount of spoiled food can be sitting on the shelves at the same time and still be sold to customers. What makes it even worse is that everything looked perfectly normal from the outside. You only discover what you actually paid for after opening the packaging and trying the food. The photo attached to this review shows just one example of what we were sold. Unfortunately, the rest of the spoiled food did not survive long enough for a photoshoot -- once we realized what condition it was in, most of it went exactly where it belonged: straight into the trash and down the toilet. So instead of enjoying dinner, we ended up with wasted money, ruined appetites, and some very serious questions about how this place handles food safety, expiration dates, and storage conditions. It is especially disappointing because the place makes a genuinely nice first impression and the selection looks very tempting. But after an experience like this, I have absolutely no desire to come back -- and I certainly cannot recommend this place to anyone. Food can look beautiful on a display. That means very little when what you actually take home is sour, rotten, or covered in mold.

Just to give you a rundown, start with Khachapuri for the whole table to share. This is just a boat-shaped bread filled with melted cheese, butter, and make sure you get it with the egg options. Tear the crust, mix the center together, and use the rest of the bread to dip inside the mix For main plate, you should try Khinkali, which is a dumpling stuffed with meat and broth. I also recommend Ozhakhuri if you want so thing simpler, which is a mix of pork, potatoes, and other vegetables and seasoning So Askaneli is a large restaurant, and at the time I went had a nice and private ambiance. The server was good and let us sample Georgian wines. And the food was obviously great. So if you are looking to try something different, I'd say go to Askaneli and try good Georgian cuisine for yourself

When we arrived and walked through the front door, the restaurant was completely empty... No host, no staff, no one in sight. We waited around for about 15 minutes before deciding to walk around the property, where we eventually found a side entrance near the bar with two employees. When we told them we were there to dine, they seemed genuinely shocked by the size of our group, despite the fact that we reminded them we had a reservation. We were then asked to wait another 15 minutes while they prepared a table. During this time, the air conditioning inside was not on, which is unacceptable given this is South Florida and the heat can be relentless. We ended up asking to sit outside, which was surprisingly cooler. Once seated, we immediately noticed bird droppings on the floor and on a wall/pillar just inches away from our table. It was very off-putting and confusing why this wasn't cleaned, especially since the outdoor area is clearly meant for guests. Service continued to be disorganized. After sitting for several minutes, we were finally asked if we wanted anything to drink, and we requested water. Immediately after that, we were asked what we wanted to order for dinner -- before we even had time to look at the menu. It felt rushed and poorly timed. When the food began coming out, it arrived in random spurts rather than together. Half of our group received their meals and started eating, while the other half waited over 20 minutes. At one point, more of our food was brought out -- but instead of being served to us, it was left sitting on the bar nearby for about 15 minutes. We had to ask three separate times if that food was ours, get ignored, then FINALLY be told, "Oh yeah, sorry, we'll serve you now." By that point, the food had been sitting out, exposed, and had gone cold. Not to mention we were already outside so I'm sure some flies were on and around the food. The server attempted to give us the food and we told him it was cold. He then said he would "warm it up". We had to explicitly ask for fresh plates, which should never have been necessary. By the time the replacements arrived, the rest of the party had already been waiting 30+ minutes after others had finished eating. The entire experience just felt chaotic. There was obviously a noticeable inconsistency in service. A table next to us appeared to be receiving extremely attentive service, while our table struggled to get even basic needs met. I think they may have been Georgian so they got special treatment. One of the particularly frustrating issues was water -- all of us were drinking water, and not once were our glasses refilled until the very end, when they were completely empty and we were visibly thirsty. Even then, we had to ask for more water!! Because this was a birthday celebration, we had originally planned on getting dessert, but given everything that had happened, we decided to just ask for the check. Getting our check took an additional 20+ minutes to arrive. To add to the confusion, another staff member repeatedly brought food to our table that none of us had ordered, forcing our server to redirect him to the correct tables. It seemed like nobody was trained?? With all that said, the food and drinks themselves were very good overall and tasted unique compared to standard offerings in the area. Our waitress was also very kind, and it was clear she was overwhelmed and likely did not have enough support to properly manage everything. The location is beautiful and has a great atmosphere, with fantastic views of the surrounding buildings and nearby water in Fort Lauderdale. Unfortunately, the lack of organization, cleanliness, and basic service overshadowed what could have been a great experience. I really am rooting for them and hoping they can get it together because it has potential.

This is nothing like Motek or Abbale, not even close. From the very first bite, my taste buds (and my expectations) were blown away. We came as a girls' night out, sharing plates and ordering "just one more dish"... and then another. The Truffle Wild Mushrooms Polenta was incredibly rich and silky, deeply earthy without feeling heavy. The Pappardelle Tomato was perfectly cooked, vibrant, and comforting in the best way. And the Cabbage "cacio e peppe"? Unexpected, bold, and absolutely addictive. The raw fish dishes were also a highlight, beautifully sliced, ultra-fresh, and paired with bright citrus, herbs, and crunch that elevated the fish without overpowering it. The grilled fish was crisp on the outside, tender inside, and plated with a smooth, flavorful puree that tied everything together effortlessly. Beyond the food, the atmosphere is a whole vibe. As the night goes on, the lights dim, the music comes on, and it transforms into the perfect setting for a stylish dinner that slowly turns into a fun night out with friends. Chic, warm, and energetic without feeling forced. I left wishing I had more room to try the entire menu, but happily signed up for their VIP rewards program (available to everyone), which basically guarantees my return. Next time, it's another girls' night at Neya, and we're coming hungry. If you love Mediterranean inspired cuisine done with precision, creativity, and soul, Neya is a must.
